Although this site was opend by the cite creator, ie me, i know very little about Pujari things, though it is a fascinating topic, and I used to be the main pujari for Lord Jagannatha and siblings in Monteal for about a year or so. I have done lots of artis, and started worshiping Gour Nitai on the altar as pujari with just first , in Winnipeg. Any experienced devotee is welcome to take over this group, please, and give us basic directions in bhakti yoga pujas.

Also, if you have several photos of the same temple, altar, or deities, kindly add as a discussion.

1) First blowing the conchshell three times outside of the deity room

2) Then offering dhupa incense (three sticks).

3) Then offer an ekadipa with karpura (one large ghee wick with camphor)

4) Then pancha pradipa. Five ghee wicks

5) Then a small conchshell with water.

6) Then a handkerchief.

7) Then a fragrant flower.

8) Then the peacock fan, but not in the winter months.

9) Then the camara fan.

Then outside of the deity room, the conchshell is blown three times

I hope this helps

With regards,

Yours in Srila Prabhupada’s service

Purity of foods and offering when out;

6 October, 1968
68-10-06

My Dear Brahmananda,

Please accept my blessings. I am in due receipt of your letter dated Oct. 1, 1968, and some of the important points that you have tried to discuss, I am replying as follows: The first thing is that in the meeting of Dr. Spock, you should eat there. But you simply eat vegetarian dishes, like fruits, nuts, boiled potato, biscuit, milk, etc., and remembering Krishna.

As you will pay for the dinner, for the fooding, you can offer them to Krishna within your mind, then eat them as Krishna Prasadam. Any foodstuff when it is paid for, it becomes purified. There is a verse in Vedic literature, Drabyamulyena Suddhati. The source of receipt of the thing, may be not very good, but if one pays for it, it becomes purified.

So, vegetable diet when it is paid for, you can offer it in your mind to Krishna and take it. But this Drabya means eatables, and eatables meaning vegetables, grains, milk, flowers, fruits; meat is not considered an eatable—it is considered untouchable.

Just like if somebody purchases some stool, that does not mean it is now purified. So meat is like that. This Drabya means vegetables, etc. And this Drabyamulyena Suddhati is only in special cases like this.

It is not to done ordinarily, or unless in special circumstance. We should prepare our own foodstuff and offer as much as possible, of course.

Home Puja Instruction(very basic)

needs: a bell, incense, tulasi leaves/flowers on a plate, water in two cups, one for purifying, one for offering.

First drop some water on your hands, and all objects to be offered, while chanting Either Panca-tattva or Harinam.

Ring the bell three times, chanting Harinam. this chases away demons.
next offer incense, waving it three times each, meditating on the feet, waist, and head of the deity, chanting Harinam.(total of 9)
Next the tulasi/flowers, waving 3 times while meditating on the feet, waist, and head.(total of 9)
Last is water, waved three times while meditating on deity's feet, waist, and head.(total of 9)

We were taught three drops water to hand, chant om kesavaya namah, sip, then use water to wash hand, om narayanaya namah, repeat, then om madhavaya namaha. that was the acamana before proceeding. then proceed, putting a drop of water on bell and then on each item just before offering it. Also, one purifes the lighter and the matches as it may be.

Lets see; was it conch vibrate, then  incense, lamp, water, cloth, camara, peacock fan, conch again  for guru puja and artika? And incense and lamp, and flower for Tulsi only? Add flower with scented oil post arti for mangal arti, and mid-early morning arti for Radha Krsna on main latar. No peacock fan in fall or winter.

We were taught different systems, but the last for me was;  four to feet, two to waist, three to head, then seven whole body. Haha! So many varieties!

There are mula or root mantras for brahmanas for certain Deities, best discussed at brahmanas  group. Sri, Om, Hrim, Srim, Klim, etc. tdasa

Diwali

The story goes that Hanuman was sent by Rama to Ayodhya the day before Rama's arrival as prearranged with Bharat to let the residents of Ayodhya know how Sita and Rama and all Their retinue were returning. This was five days before Diwali, and after the Vijaya dasami (victory of Rama ) celebration. THE STORY BEHIND "DIWALI" King Dashrath ruled the rich and prosperous city of Ayodhya.
