Haribol and dandavats
below is something i wrote for a streetart group i started a couple of years ago on flickr
Look at the beautiful street art that has come to this group from around the world. Some might think this is a Hindu or Indian streetart group...
I ask, how can it be? the art we are seeing is from many country's
+ cultures and that can be seen in the different style's of painting...
Who will put stress on what color our skin is? or what country we happen to be born in! We are not this body, this bag of bones.we are the soul the
consciousness...like the driver of the car..eventually we have to trade for a knew one...
The subject and topic of the streetart in this group, represents this understanding of spirit and matter....and people know this, all around the world...coz the writings on the wall..

Devotional streetart...i would take a guess and say originated in vedic times. When i first visited and traveled around India, one particular journey i happened to travel on the roof of a bus...and as we waited to leave the busy market place,in my line of vision was all the fancy written shop signs....painted in the brightest of colors and such intricate designs....i remember thinking this looks abit like wildstyle graffiti that can be seen in the west...Art is very prominent within vedic culture...it was also one of the services that Srila Prabhupada engaged many of his disciples....painting for his books. Street art is simply a modern interpretation of murals...it seams murals have always existed on Temples,Palaces, markets and peoples homes....as a modern culture we have forgotten "who" we should be glorifying....and so the modern street artist writes his own name....but if a little adjustment is made and we transfer glorification from ourselves...to Krishna, then surely the activity becomes perfect.
Disclaimer...painting on peoples walls is considered illegal....even though EVERYTHING belongs to Krishna...best to get permission...if caught ask for forgiveness ( although its easier asking for forgiveness than permission)...most important always do a good job
