Fiji

Basically there's nothing to do in Sigatoka but in Korotogo (koro tongo, named after the village) there's a couple of ma and pa Indian run stores, friendly locals and a few expats. Let it be known that I spent five years in Fiji and never ventured further than Korotogo. I went on a few tours but I haven't seen anymore of Fiji. Plan to though, on my next trip. The Reef Hotel is located here on the coral coast as the area is called. It has a nice restaurant and a great bar for afternoon drinks or night dancing. Coral coveres the beach but there are plenty of spots to sunbathe and the ocean, protected by the reef, is clear and great for swimming. Or just sit on the beach and watch the sun set.

Fijians are mostly Methodist and don't go to the beach on Sundays. You may find a few Indian families and some tourists. Mainly, you will have it to yourself.

For $300 a month, you can get a three bedroom unfurnished flat with a large fenced yard. These new flats are about seven years old. They have hot water and lots of flowers and fruits trees in the yards. These are in Korotogo on the backroad. If you plan a long stay, try bargaining the price down.

Fiji Entry Requirements: Passports and Visas

Those who plan on visiting Fiji should know about passport and visa requirements prior to their trip to avoid any trouble and stress resulting from not having the appropriate items.

    Passport to visit Fiji

passportEach traveler must have a passport that is valid for at least three months beyond the intended date of departure from Fiji. However, it is strongly advised that travelers have a passport that is valid for six months beyond the date of departure with them at all times.

Most countries, including Fiji, also require that you have blank pages in your passport with an adequate amount of space for the necessary stamps that you may need when entering or departing the country. It is recommended that you have at least two free pages in the visas section of your passport before traveling to any international country. VisaHQ.com can assist U.S. citizens with a variety of passport services, including adding extra passport pages, passport renewal and applying for a new passport.

Along with passports, visitors must hold onto onward or return tickets and sufficient funds to cover their stay, as they will need them when they depart from the country.

    Visa to enter Fiji

Those from the US, UK, Canada, Australia and other countries that are within the European Union who plan on staying in Fiji up to four months and who are issued a visitor’s permit upon arrival are not required to have a visa. For business purposes, visitors’ permits are good for stays of up to 14 days. Those from countries that were not referred to should contact the Fiji embassy to check visa requirements.

Visas are valid for stays of up to three months, though if you need them extended, you can send an application to the consular section of high commission or Fiji embassy.

    If you need a visa, you can get a single-entry visa for a little over US$73( £45) or a multiple-entry for a little over US$130 (£80).

Also, if you have connecting flights overseas as part of your trip to Fiji, you may need a separate transit visa for some of the countries that you need to pass through to arrive at your destination.

  • Bhubaneswara; Part of, entrance to Jagannatha Puri Sridhama. Healthy, ancient, very very inexpensive. a six month visa is obtainable readily to India, and an extension can be gotten while in country. From here, one can plant  their things in a cooperatively rented accomodation here, and the devotees can go from their by train etc on pilgrimages. The Iskcon Temple which I helped start in 1977 is freindly and wonderful and has alos an excellent vegetarin restaurant, and a printing press, and a large stage for plays etc. which could conceivably be utilized  to put on productions sometimes?

  • A good old friend and ex temple president and expert musician and ex president of apple california, has relocated to Costa Rica and is building guest cottages when he build his home for his family there. Costa Rica is moderat of climate, no big mosquito problems, good clean fruits grow there, and Utthama has a wife who is from this place. a sankirtana party would be well received there, I asuspect, and this option could definitely be considered as part of a pilgrimage TSKP tour circuit. A good place to study, do bhajana, chant, and do sankirtana.

Cost of living there is about 1/3 that of life in more devellopped countries.

  • New Zealand Whangerai Temple, Costa Rica Temple, SPI Bhubaneswara and Puri Guest House and Organic Farm, SPI Fiji TSKP; all nice, inexpensive. Our members could travel between these temples after spending the allowed visa time in country, then move on to the next engagement in a regular circular route pattern.

Travel expenses would be the main yearly or bi-yearly, cost. Housing can be cooperatively managed. Ideally, we would be expert enough to do some sort of income producing services, such as performance arts, and book table sales.
