Lots of rain in Kolkata. I managed to spend several hours at the
Bhaktivedanta Research Library
yesterday. What an incredible collection, a treasure house really, of Vaisnava and Vedic literature. I most highly recommend all devotees to visit when they are in Kolkata and to give their wholehearted support.
- You, William G Benedict, Caitanya Dasi, Monojit Bhattacharya and 52 others like this.
- William G Benedict It is open for visitors ascend there are also guest rooms.
- Anjali Dasi I noticed on the website there is a guest house but wondered about how available the rooms are. I used to stay in Iskcon Kolkata guest house very cheaply in 97 soon after it was built. Now they say that almost all the rooms there are used for offices etc. Hard to find cheap accommodation in Kolkata unless you want to share a room in a Gaudiya Math.
- William G Benedict These guest rooms are available for those who want to read and study at the library. They are simple but quite clean and comfortable.
- Anjali Dasi Interesting to know thanks.
- Angelo Pugliese : The major portion of Srila BhaktiSiddhanta original library, as collected and enlarged by Sri SundarAnanda VidyaVinode, is under our care, here at the BhaktiVedanta Research Centre in Kolkata (Calcutta). The library collection (about 15,000 titles, as per now) includes very rare & unique texts of the Gaudiya Vaishnava Sampradaya and a wide basis of other Vaishnava Sampradayas titles, etc. More than a 1000 manuscripts are also available, digitized from old & rare originals. A small guest-house with AC, wi-fi, etc., welcomes guests at a very reasonable price. Not to forget that in and near Kolkata (Calcutta), one will find the Indian National Library, the Asiatic Society, the Sanskrit College, the Sanskrit Sahitya Parishad, the Bangiya Sahitya Parishad and several other cultural institutions, full of original texts, manuscripts, etc. An ideal place for learners, researchers and writers ! The BRC website is still under development, but you can kindly email all your queries to me at acyuta AT ymail DOT com To remember also is that Calcutta is a 'GuruTirtha', i.e. the birthplace of Srila Prabhupada! and his RadhaGovinda temple in Albert Road, along with the Govinda restaurant, are beaming with devotional activities. Thank you, BhaktaDas Prabhu, for visiting and sharing your enthusiasm: Acyuta,SdG dasa Librarian
