Radharani's kitchen recipes 1 - Bisibele baath or Hot lentil rice Hare Krishna Introduction - Bisibele baath is a favourite and iconic dish in southern part of India. It's a classic recipe of brahmanas. So no wonder, even original recipe doesn't contain onion or garlic! Bisibele baath looks same as Kichuri of Vrindavan. Except, more healthy because of lot of veggies is cooked in. It's a home comfort meal. Healthy and easy to digest. Ingredients - A. Masala Must haves - * 4 tsp coriander seeds * 4 tsp chana dal * 2 tsp urad dal * 1 tsp jeera / cumin * ¼ tsp methi / fenugreek seeds * ½ tsp pepper * 2 tbsp dry coconut / copra * 3 pods cardamom / elachi * 1 inch cinnamon / dalchini * 8 Red dry chillies * 1 tea spoon oil For intense taste add - * 4 cloves / lavang * 2 tsp poppy seeds / khus khus * 1 tsp sesame seeds / til Roast them in oil, slightly in low heat till it get beautiful aroma. Remove it immediately so it won't get burnt. Then Grind to powder. B. Dish Short grain rice - 1 cup Toovar dal - 1/2 or 1/3 cup Any mixed Vegetables - 1 cup Oil/Ghee - 1 or 2 tea spoon Salt - as per taste Water - 4-6 cups C. Seasoning Oil/ghee - 1 or 2 table spoon Mustard seeds - 1 tea spoon Cashews - 1 table spoon Curry leaves - 8-10 leaves Hing - 1/4th or 1/3rd tea spoon Red Chilli powder - as per taste D. Juice with masala Tamarind paste - lemon size "A" masala - 1 1/2 tea spoon Jaggery - 1 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric - 1 tea spoon Let's cook for Sri Krishna now - 1. Combine all "B" ingredients in heavy pot. Pour water like kichidi. Consistency should be like kichidi. Remember to wash rice and dal many times before cooking. 2. Do indian seasoning with "C" - heat oil, pour ingredients one by one, don't burn 3. Pour D juice in seasoning and boil 2-3 minutes - BE CAREFUL, oil will react with water. Stay bit away and put. 4. Important tips - * Bisibele baath should be cooked in only either of 3 oils for authentic taste. Ghee, Sesame seed oil or Coconut oil. * Bisibele baath should be served hot. Never cold. * Bisibele baath is one pot meal. It usually needs no side dish. But it's recommended to use pickles. Mango works great. * If toovar dal is not available, use mung dal. * If you don't have many Vegetables, atleast add tomatoes and French beans. Fresh peas are also great. * You can use readymade masala like sambhar masala. Available in Indian food stores. Read carefully that it doesn't contain onion or garlic. * Tamarind paste can be substituted with lemon juice and more tomatoes. Although it doesn't taste as authentic. * This is an elaborate dish for beginners. Offer to Sri Radha-Krishna, Sri Gaur Nitai, Sri Jagannath Subhadra Baladev, Sri Lakshmi Narasimha, Vaishnavas etc and honour it Happy Prasadam cooking!
