Melting the frozen souls

Srila Prabhupada Quote of the Day

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

Founder~Acharya of the Krsna Consciousness Movement

November 12, 1968

Los Angeles, Calif.
Letter to Malati

“Your questions are very nice. Yes, the Supersoul and soul both are unchanged. The difference is that in material contact, the soul appears to be changed. But the Supersoul is not affected by material contamination; therefore there is no sign of change. The change of soul is like that water becomes ice in contact with refrigerator. And as soon as there is temperature the ice again becomes water.

Similarly the changing nature of the soul is just like change of water to ice. The tendency of ice is to melt and become water again. So due to contamination of matter, the soul by illusion identifies with material existence. But the tendency is to melt again to Krishna Consciousness. So when there is sufficient temperature in contact with bona fide Spiritual Master and devotees, the soul again becomes Krishna Conscious, like the water.

If someone is fortunate enough to find out a bona fide Spiritual Master, his life is successful. And to be fortunate, there must be sincerity, and Krishna will lead him to a bona fide Spiritual Master.”

Quoting Srila Prabhupada; Unity in Diversity

"So far as your question about controversy amongst the disciples . . . that is a fact. But this controversy is not material. Just like in a national program, different political parties are sometimes in conflict and make propaganda against each other, but their central point is always service to the country. Similarly, amongst the disciples . . . there may be some controversy, but the central point is how to preach the mission of His Divine Grace. If the central point is fixed up then there is no harm in such controversy. Every individual being must have his opinion; that is the significance of individuality, but all such differences of opinions must coincide in Krishna. In the battlefield of Kuruksetra were Arjuna and Bhisma who were fighting with one another, and because Krishna was on the side of Arjuna, sometimes Bhisma pierced the body of Krishna also with arrows. But still they remained the greatest devotees of the Lord.'"

Taking a flower does not kill the tree.

“If I take this Flower from the Tree, the Tree is not killed”

2009 November 9
by admin                                                            PRABHUPADANUGA NEWS

Mr. Surface, July 26, 1975, Laguna Beach: Were some of the animals destined to survive through the destruction of other animals?

Prabhupada: Yes. You are also destroying so many cows daily, although you are human being. Do you consider that, “Why this cow should be slaughtered?” They are also living beings. So what about the animals? If man can slaughter so many animals daily, then if a tiger kills another one animal, what is the wrong there? That is the distinction between man and animal. Everyone has to eat somebody, and nature’s law is one living being is eating another living being. Jivo jivasya jivanam. So the snake is eating the frog, the frog is eating another small animal or some flies, and the snake is eaten by the mongoose, and the mongoose eaten by somebody else, by cat or by dog. So this is the law of nature. Therefore the human being is suggested that, “You should take Krishna prasadam”. Eating is required, but you don’t eat like the lower animals. You take Krishna prasadam. In the Bhagavad-gita it is said, patram puspam phalam toyam yo me bhaktya prayacchati: “Anyone who is offering Me with devotion and love leaves, vegetables, fruits, flowers, milk, that I take.” So we take Krishna prasadam, the remnants of foodstuff left by Krishna. So that is our philosophy—we take Krishna prasadam. Although there is also… Maybe not killing. Because if I take this flower from the tree, the tree is not killed. If I take grains from the paddy… What is called?

Bhojadeva: Plant?

Prabhupada: Yes. So it dies before. All these food grain plants, when the food grains are ripened, they dry. So it is not required to kill the plant. When it is already dead, you can take the food grains. When you take milk, the cow is not killed. The milk is nothing but transformation of the blood. So we are taking milk means blood. The blood is in a red color, and milk is in white color, but it is blood. Unless it is blood, how so much liquid comes from the body? So we take the same blood in a very intelligible way so that cow may live, he can continue to give me more and more, and I take more benefit from the wonderful food, milk. This is intelligence. And because cow blood is very beneficial for health, if I kill the cow, that is not very good intelligence. In our New Vrindaban the cows are giving more milk than others because they know we shall not kill them. They are happy.

Quoting SP; Preaching, Correcting

Letter to Jagadisa das

"I am glad to hear that Govardhana Prabhu is doing nicely now. I am very happy. If there is any discrepancy, we have to request them to correct, not changing or dismissing. Our whole process is to humbly request, sometimes falling down on the feet and flattering. The vivid example is Nityananda Prabhu converting Jagai and Madhai.

So study my books and reproduce the purports in your own language. You should instruct your temple presidents to preach like this. This is preaching. We haven't got to invent something by our fertile brain for preaching.

Everything is there. One who is expert for presenting these things before the audience so they can conveniently understand, this is a successful preacher. You have only to speak what Krsna has said. Then you become a preacher."

Quoting Srila Prabhupada

"You have rightly said that the best way to associate with the spiritual master is to follow his instructions. There are two ways of associating, by vani and by vapu. Vani means words and vapu means physical presence. Physical presence is sometimes appreciable and sometimes not. Therefore we should take advantage of the vani, not the physical presence, because the vani continues to exist eternally.

Bhagavad-gita for example is the vani of Lord Krishna. Although Krishna was personally present 5,000 years ago and is no longer present physically from the materialistic viewpoint, still Bhagavad-gita continues. So you have correctly concluded."

Srila Prabhupada;

This is the greatest drawback of modern education, that not only in your country or any country they have completely neglected what is meant by God. And in India, they are especially… Now, as soon as there is any question of God, they see phobia: “Oh, this is all nonsense.” They have become so clever.

So anyway, my appeal to you, American people, that you are considered to be the leader of all nations of the world. You should take this Krishna conscious movement very seriously. It is good for you. It is good for the whole world. It is individually, collectively, without any consideration of caste, creed, or color.

Everyone can chant Hare Krishna, anyone and everyone, at home, on the street. There is no expenditure. Suppose while walking if you chant Hare Krishna, there is no loss, there is no expenditure, but you see how much you are profited by chanting Hare Krishna.

This is practical. We don’t say that “You come to our temple and give us some subscription. Become our member.” That is a secondary question. Our primary movement is that everyone may take advantage of this movement and simply chant wherever possible, at home, at work, on the street, anywhere. There is no regulation where you have to chant and how you have to chant. It is spontaneous. Simply chant Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. There are only three words there: Hare, Krishna, and Rama, but they are adjusted in a different position. There are sixteen words.

So it is not very difficult. You can make an experiment. The children also may take pleasure. We have got our records. If you play those records and chant with it, you will find a transcendental pleasure in you. These are facts. So our request to you, that you take this movement a little seriously, and you will be happy by grace of Krishna.

Thank you very much. If you have got any question, you can ask.

My Dear Kirtika,

Please accept my blessings. Rupanuga Prabhu has recommended you for initiation and I am so glad to accept you as my duly initiated disciple. I have given you the spiritual name Kirtika Devi Dasi. Kirtika is the name of one of the gopis. Also your beads have been duly chanted on by me and are enclosed herewith.

The gopis are so much engaged in the transcendental loving service of Radha and Krishna that they are condemning the creator, Lord Brahma for not knowing how to make perfect eyes. They were disturbed that when blinking their eyes, they could not see Krishna.

So that is perfection in Krishna Consciousness; to be so much engaged in Krishna’s loving service that you cannot bear separation from that service, not even for a moment.

So somehow or other always be engaged. And if there is nothing else, you can always sit down and chant Hare Krishna Mantra. 16 rounds daily is the minimal requirement, but you should chant Hare Krishna as much as possible. And follow all the regulative principles strictly.

Read all our books, attend classes and go for street Sankirtana. In this way be engaged in Krishna’s business 24 hours and you will be happy and in the end you will go back home, back to Godhead.

Hoping this will meet you in good health.

Your ever well-wisher,
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami

Tips On;  How to benefit from the site

You may be here just to see what goes on, or you may already be serious and wish to attain formal initiation as disciple of Srila Prabhupada. Simply reading his books and following his directives is adequate, however, formal recognition can be acheived onsite also. We have enough materials onsite now such that one can simply read and view what is here, and go back to Godhead.

Join How to; Online Bhakta program among the Groups & Services, by picking the "Groups & Services" feature tab, black letters, right side, at all the page tops, then select  How to; Online Bhakta program group, and clik on that, join, and please read your way through slowly and with comprehension before rushing on. There is no rush, there is a lot of material also! comment as you go if you like! This serves as a nice introduction to persons new to Krsna's service. Like a major novel or a TV series, one need to get to know the characters. This drama has been going on for eternity, so it is impossible to know everything about Krsna and the whole series, so to speak!

We enjoy your comments! You may comment and we ask you to please do so. Without reciprocation for the writers and site creator, the site seems a burden. It seems an unnescessary endeavor without some feedback from the readers. You can just imagine how many months of work have gone into what is here already, and a man's life is shorter than he thinks when the body is yet young.

You are not expected to do it all or understand much at first. In the long run, we hope you will in fact renounce all personal claims to the world and surrender your life word deeds and everything you possess in His service, as according to your heart's understanding of Srila Prabhupada's directions to you. That is pure devotional service, so the standards are the world's highest in that sense. But there is otherwise no material qualifications for developing love of Godhead! Any and all have this right and inherent capacity. We the disciples have done so, have committed to the group of devotees eternally serving Godhead under the directions of Srila Prabhupada. So it is not a cheap internet site thing. But as you take, it is up to you, take more or less, we are giving it freely. Srila Prabhupada uses the example of an electric current; the current is there, but the electric light bulbs use according to their capacity.

From Srila Prabhupada’s June 22, 1972 letter to Hamsaduta

“So especially you must encourage the students to read our books throughout the day as much as possible, and give them all good advice how to understand the books, and inspire them to study the things from every point of view. In this way, by constantly engaging our tongues in the service of the Lord, either by discussing His philosophy or by chanting Hare Krishna, the truth is that Krishna Himself will reveal Himself to us and we shall understand how to do everything properly.

Now we have got so many students and so many temples but I am fearful that if we expand too much in this way that we shall become weakened and gradually the whole thing will become lost. Just like milk. We may thin it more and more with water for cheating the customer, but in the end it will cease to be any longer milk.

Better to boil the milk now very vigorously and make it thick and sweet, that is the best process. So let us concentrate on training our devotees very thoroughly in the knowledge of Krishna Consciousness from our books, from tapes, by discussing always, and in so many ways instruct them in the right propositions.”
