Do You Realize These Statements? by Gour Bola

BY: GOURA BOLA

Feb 07, INDIA — The main teaching of Vedic (or Hindu) literature is as follows: "I am not my body, I am pure spirit soul, part and parcel of Krishna."

It is easy to write or say the above sentence. What matters is if the sadhak (or bhakta) realizes the above statement. If you don't realize it, does it matter what kind of society you are part of? That society can be called Hindu, ISKCON, Hare Krishna, etc. I would like to explain to you what the above means, so that the readers will know if they truly understand the above statement. It is useless to write articles if you don't understand these basic principles. The worst obstacle for bhakta is to think that one realizes these concepts when one doesn't.

1) The truth is that the self is not body or inert matter. Self cannot even be touched by matter. Self has assumed affinity to matter. Body and matter is perishable and self is imperishable. When one realizes this fact, one stops giving importance to the perishable. The perishable comes and goes. Importance should be given to what stays, i.e., the imperishable self.

Question: Do you give importance to inert matter? Are you attached to it? Do you truly realize that self is beyond matter?

2) The truth is that self is part of Paramatma (Krishna). Instead of assuming affinity to matter, our true affinity is with Paramatma (Krishna). Such a person truly realizes that self belongs to Paramatma. That is true Saranagati. In that state, you consider yourself as Krishna's only. That is a fact as you are part of Krishna. The internal state is -- "I am Krishna's. Krishna is mine. No one else is mine." That is ananya bhakti.

Question: Do you truly see Krishna as yours? Do you truly see that no one else is yours?

3) I am part of Krishna. All living entities are part of Krishna. Krishna resides in everyone. So, the bhakta sees everyone as part of Krishna. He loves everyone as their beloved Bhagavan. He is happy to serve his Lord, present in front of him as the living entities. He has equal vision between good and bad and sees all living entities equally, as they all are Krishna's form. While understanding the above principles, the sadhak sees all material objects as part of Krishna. All living entities as part of Krishna. He uses Krishna's objects in the service of other living entities, which are part of Krishna. That is the true meaning of understanding that everything belongs to Krishna.

Question: Do you see everyone as part of Krishna? Do you act on that level? Do you have equal vision? Do you serve everyone equally, seeing them as part of Krishna?

4) Self cannot be touched by matter. Self does not cause any change in inert matter. The prakriti (three gunas) causes the change. Therefore, Krishna says that you are not the doer. Those who see themselves as doers are fools.

Question: Do you see yourself as doer?

The statement - "I am not my body, I am pure spirit soul, part and parcel of Krishna" - is very deep.

  • You are right . Nothing else is complete. There is only lesser degrees of bhakti, until the taste is almost lost.
