the real thing.
Srila Prabhupada Letter to Sriman Sudhindra Babu
" I am so glad to learn that you are interested in the matter of Vaisnava philosophy. Vaisnava philosophy is very simple: that God is great and everyone is His servant. Nobody can be equal to or greater than God. They are simultaneously one and different. In quality they are one, but in magnitude they are different. This is the whole philosophy of the four Vaisnava sampradayas."
Dear L; Thanks for the nice question, ie what are "Hare and Krishna?"
In the spiritual world, there is no difference between a persons's name and the person. Here, it is all relative and temporary. To return to the spiritual world, our source of origin, the Goloka Vrndavana heaven of love of Radha and Krishna, we can vibrate bonafide Names of Godhead, which indeed ARE directly Godhead, the incarnation in sound vibration, and thus we become energized, like iron rods put in a hot fire. The iron cannot be distinguished from the fire, once it is also hot.
Hare is Radharani, the Female Godhead, Krishna is the Primordial Male Godhead. Chanting Their Names is calling out for their loving assistance and acceptance into their circle of associates. We remember Them together, as They are the Primordial Lovers and the source of all beings. "Sarva karana karanam " Bhagavada Gita As It Is.
from Naradiya Purana; " Harinam Hainam Harinama eva kevalum! Kalau nastyeva nastyeva nastyeva gatir anyatha." ie The path in this the Kali Yuga is to chant Hare Krishna.
( Nothing else is recommended universally by the self-realized sadhus in these times. Everything necessary is included in this chanting process. )

How to get started? Just read through. Then, chant the maha mantra, given herein. Try to be merciful to all others, don't unnecessarily eat the animals etc Avoid intoxication, illicit sex, meat eating, and gambling. Be clean, steady, patient, determined. Associate with other devotees, read regularly. Serve the nstructions oif the spiritual master. You must chant to make advancment. See? Nothing too much asked. Just everything.
But even long journeys begin with one step. Can you say, " Hare Krishna ?" Jaya! You are now a delivered soul, we shall try to hasten that by following the program. But your deliverance is now guaranteed, but it is wise to nurture the garden, not negelct it, otherwise there will be no fruits. This will be revealed to you if you are sincere, by Supersoul within, in the next short while.
Jaya! Hare Krishna. Gour Nitai !
Baby Krishna and His older brother Balarama. Apparently, they are delighted with the tiny birds. The feeling involved is known as Vatsalya rasa, or the flvor of parental affection for godhead. In this mood, the devotee is more than God. He is the older brother, the older sib, the mother, the father, the older villagers, etc who all feel types of vatsalya or protective parental affection towards Sri Krishna.

Srila Prabhupada; There is two mission: not only to give protection to the devotees, but also to kill the demons. To kill the demons, that is one side. So the devotees of Krishna should be trained up both ways: not only to give protection to the devotees, to give them encouragement, but if need be, they should be prepared to kill the demons. That is Vaisnavism. It is not cowardism. It is not cowardism. When need be. Letter to Sivanivas
"Regarding your question, Lord Caitanya is simply making a comparison between the moon and Lord Krishna's Sankirtana movement, because both are radiating benediction on all the living entities.
Krishna says in Bhagavad-gita: "I become the moon, and thereby supply the juice of life to all vegetables," and in another place "among the stars I am the moon." So, directly or indirectly, Krishna is supplying all benediction to everything and everyone, just like the moon gives life to vegetables, without which nothing can exist, and also that moon keeps the great oceans from overcoming the land and destroying everything.
Similarly, Lord Caitanya's Sankirtana movement gives spiritual life to all living entities by dint of its transcendental radiation, and also it prevents the demonic class of men from overwhelming the pious class of men, and thus in every way it bestows all benediction, just like at night the moon illuminates everything."

“He replied, ‘My name is Abaya Caranaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja. I am an unworthy disciple of His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura, Srila Prabhupada, my divine master. I have been coming here for such a long time because my Gurudeva has given me an impossible mission.
His desire was for me to go across the ocean to the Western countries and spread the sublime teachings of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. There are countless souls there who have never heard of Sri Sri Radha-Krsna and so they are suffering greatly. I have not known how this mission of his will be successful, so I have been coming here to this special house of Adwaita Acarya, where he, Nityananda Prabhu, and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu would gather together to plan the sankirtana movement.
It was here that they launched the inundation of love of God that swept India and continues to this day. Thus, I have been praying very earnestly here that they will all give me their mercy that somehow they will empower me and guide me. I want to satisfy my gurudeva’s desire, but I am feeling unqualified to do this.’”
“As he was speaking to me, I saw tears falling down on his cheeks again. Then he continued, ‘Tomorrow I am leaving for Calcutta to go upon a ship across the ocean to America. I do no know what will befall me there, but I am praying most earnestly here for help.’ Then he very humbly asked me for my blessings. I was indeed moved by this Vaisnava’s sincerity and determination as I watched him depart upon his journey.”

What is a Vaishnava? Kali-cela devotees and pseudo gurus
staffmemberA.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
From Suvarna Manjari dasi:
Hare Krsna, can someone please explain to me why it is bad for people to follow someone who may be a criminal if that person is telling them to chant Hare Krsna and to read Prabhupadas books? I am just trying to find out how that persons criminal past may or may not affect the “disciples” or followers. How does it affect the followers devotional creeper? Can that follower still achieve love of God?
Thank you, your servant Suvarna
False gurus – pseudo spiritual master
Srila Prabhupada describes the fate of disciples who follow false gurus - Going to hell without a doubt:
Prabhupada: As for your next question, can only a few pure devotees deliver others, anyone, if he is a pure devotee he can deliver others, he can become spiritual master. But unless he is on that platform he should not attempt it. Then both of them will to go to hell, like blind men leading the blind.” (Srila Prabhupada Letter, December 14th, 1972)”
Leaders who have fallen into ignorance and who mislead people by directing them to the path of destruction [as described in the previous verse] are, in effect, boarding a stone boat, and so too are those who blindly follow them. A stone boat would be unable to float and would sink in the water with its passengers. Similarly, those who mislead people go to hell, and their followers go with them.” (Srimad-Bhagavatam 6.7.14)”
And the rascal, blind leaders are leading everyone to hell. They are simply misleaders. People do not like to accept any authority. Still, they have accepted these rascals as leaders and are being misled. In this way both the rascal leaders and their unfortunate followers remain bound up by the stringent laws of material nature.” (The Laws of Nature, chapter 1)”
Generally a fashionable materialist engages a so-called spiritual master without any profit. The pseudo spiritual master flatters the so-called disciple, and thereby both the master and his ward go to hell without a doubt.” (Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.19.37, purport)
“The misguided conditioned soul also approaches so-called sadhus and swamis who preach against the principles of the Vedas. He does not receive benefit from them, either in the present or in the future.” (Srimad-Bhagavatam 5.14.13)
“One cannot become happy by accepting a false guru. A guru should be accepted as advised in Srimad-Bhagavatam. Tasmad gurum prapadyeta jijnasuh sreya uttamam: One should approach a bona fide guru to inquire about the highest benefit of life. (…) If one is able to obtain the dust of the lotus feet of such a guru, his life becomes successful. Otherwise he is baffled both in this life and in the next.” (Srimad-Bhagavatam 5.14.13, purport)
“So if you are misled, if you are cheated, whose fault it is? But if you want to be cheated, who can check? Even though somebody by mistake has gone to a rascal, the book is there. As soon as you find out, “Here is a rascal who does not know anything about Krsna, and I have come to him,” reject him.” (Srila Prabhupada Room Conversation, January 31st, 1977)
Comments: Srila Prabhupada clearly warns about the consequences of accepting unauthorised gurus. Hence, best to stay fixed with the only Guru that Srila Prabhupada recommended for ISKCON — himself !
july9th says: Quoting from Padma Purana, Sri Sanatana Gosvami has strictly forbidden us to hear about the activities of the Lord and His devotees from the mouths of nondevotees:
avaisnava-mukhodgirnam / putam hari-kathamrtam
sravanam naiva kartavyam / sarpocchistam yatha payah
“One should not hear anything about Krsna from a non-Vaisnava. Milk touched by the lips of a serpent has poisonous effects ; similarly, talks about Krsna given by a non-Vaisnava are also poisonous.” One must be a bona fide devotee, and then he can preach and impress devotional service upon his listeners. (SB 6.17.40p)
What is a Vaishnava?
Suvarna Manjari dasi writes: Can you please explain to me what a vaisnava is. It’s really difficult to see who is a vaisnava and who is not, especially if one does not even know what a vaisnava is. It’s not a cheap thing to be a vaisnava… hopefully one day I will become one.
But, please can you tell me what a vaisnava is. Radhanath Swami looks like one (maybe not when he dances like that…Bhava or acting?…I can’t know for sure), he follows a line of vaisnavas, so it’s easy for one to assume that he is a vaisnava.
We are so easily cheated and fooled in this age. I just watched a doco on Saibaba and watched how his followers totally believed who he was and worshipped him…now in Saibabas case…for us it is so obvious that he is a fake, but when it comes to people who are following in our own line of diciplic succession and appear to be followers of Prabhupada, it’s sometimes really difficult to make the distinction…especially if you are afraid of being offensive and don’t actually know what a vaisnava is meant to be.
Sometimes I just want to believe that everything is fine and try to only see the positive and all that, but one can’t help to see the cracks in the walls. And if you don’t get out of the cracked up room, the roof may fall on your head. I hope to receive some imput from other devotees. Your servant, Suvarna.
july9th says: Srila Prabhupada gives many definitions as to what a vaisnava is. Just like someone may ask, what does the word apple mean? It can mean many things, a fruit, a type of tree, a seed, a color etc. The meaning is taken from the context.
You are asking this question within the context of Radhanath Swami and by appearances he may fit a definition.
Another qualification of a Vaisnava is that he will obey the orders of his spiritual master. If one disobeys the orders of the spiritual master, then he cannot be a Vaisnava. Just like those who have usurped the seat of Srila Prabhupada as Radhanath Swami and his GBC buddies have been doing for the past 30+ years. It is clear that Prabhupada never authorized Radhanath Swami to be his successor.
Also, we know that Srila Prabhupada himself stated that there are many non- Vaisnavas in ISKCON who are posing as Vaisnavas:
Those who unauthorisedly “take the place of the guru” are these very same “jealous people in the dress of Vaisnavas”.
The six Goswamis of Vrindavan
What is the definition of a Vaishnava?
The word “Vaisnava” denotes a worshiper of Visnu and is derived from the Lord’s own name, Vishnu. The term Vaisnava refers to devotees of Vishnu in general as well as to devotees of Vishnu’s incarnation, like Rama and Krishna in particular. The heart of a Vaishnava is by nature softened due to the touch of the lotus feet of Lord Krishna. By nature a Vaishnava is Paraduhki-duhki, that is, he feels pain when he sees the suffering of others.
grhitaivisnudiksako visnu-pujaparo narah
vaisnavo ‘bhihito ‘bhijnairitaro ‘smadavaisnavah
“One who is initiated into the Vaishnava mantra and who is devoted to worshipping Lord Vishnu/ Krishna is a Vaishnava. One who is devoid of these practices is not a Vaishnava. (quote from Hari-bhakti-vilas,11, quoted from Padma Purana)
Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu explains three kinds of Vaishnavas:
An Ordinary Vaishnava:
prabhu-kare, ‘yanra mukhe suni eka-bara
krsna-nama, sei pujya, srestha sabakara
“Who chants the holy name of Krishna just once may be considered a Vaishnava. Such a person is worshipable and is the topmost human being.” (CC. Mad.15.106)
A Superior Vaishnava:
krsna-nama nirantara yanhara vadane
se vaisnava-srestha, bhaja tanhara carane
“A person who is always chanting the holy name of the Krishna is a superior Vaishnava and your duty is to serve his lotus feet.” (CC. Mad.16.72)
The Topmost Vaishnava:
yanhara darsane mukhe aise krsna-nama
tanhare janiha tumi vaisnava-pradhana
“The topmost Vaishnava is he/she whose very presence makes others chant the holy name of Krishna. Such a Vaishnava is superior to all others!” (CC. Mad.16.74)
The Demoniac and Divine:
Bhagavad Gita Chapter 16, Verse 1-3.
The Blessed Lord said: Fearlessness, purification of one’s existence, cultivation of spiritual knowledge, charity, self-control, performance of sacrifice, study of the Vedas, austerity and simplicity; nonviolence, truthfulness, freedom from anger; renunciation, tranquility, aversion to faultfinding, compassion and freedom from covetousness; gentleness, modesty and steady determination; vigor, forgiveness, fortitude, cleanliness, freedom from envy and the passion for honor–these transcendental qualities, O son of Bharata, belong to godly men endowed with divine nature.
Bhagavad Gita Chapter 16, Verse 4-24.
Arrogance, pride, anger, conceit, harshness and ignorance–these qualities belong to those of demoniac nature, O son of Prtha. The demoniac, taking shelter of insatiable lust, pride and false prestige, and being thus illusioned, are always sworn to unclean work, attracted by the impermanent. They believe that to gratify the senses unto the end of life is the prime necessity of human civilization. Thus there is no end to their anxiety. Being bound by hundreds and thousands of desires, by lust and anger, they secure money by illegal means for sense gratification.
The demoniac person thinks: “So much wealth do I have today, and I will gain more according to my schemes. So much is mine now, and it will increase in the future, more and more. He is my enemy, and I have killed him; and my other enemy will also be killed. I am the lord of everything. I am the enjoyer. I am perfect, powerful and happy. I am the richest man, surrounded by aristocratic relatives. There is none so powerful and happy as I am. I shall perform sacrifices, I shall give some charity, and thus I shall rejoice.” In this way, such persons are deluded by ignorance.
Self-complacent and always impudent, deluded by wealth and false prestige, they sometimes perform sacrifices in name only without following any rules or regulations. Thus perplexed by various anxieties and bound by a network of illusions, one becomes too strongly attached to sense enjoyment and falls down into hell.
There are persons who imitate the previous Acharyas without following them in principle in order to advertise oneself as a high grade Vaishnava. But such imitation devotees are condemned in the words of Srimad Bhagbatam as the ‘stone-hearted.’ And Srila Viswanath Chakrabarty Thakur has annotated on this ‘Stone Heartedness’ as follows: http://bhagavad-gitaasitis.com/?g=157743
Vaishnava and Kali-Chela:
Prabhupada: Then you can get rid of maya’s tricks. Otherwise, you may dress yourself like anything, but you are simply maya’s servant. Bhaktivinoda Thakura has sung one… Ei ota kalir chela: “Here is another disciple of Kali.” Nake tilaka galai mala. “He has got tilaka on the nose and mala, kanthi, also.” Sahaja bhajana kache mamu saìge lana pare bhalo: “And he’s, he has become a Vaisnava by illicit sex.” This is stated by Bhaktivinoda Thakura. “Here is a Kali’s chela. He has dressed like a Vaisnava, but he is doing his bhajan with illicit sex.” Sahaje bhajana kache mamu saìge lana pare bhalo. You know? There is a class of sahajiyas? (Morning Walk at Marine del Rey, July 13, 1974, Los Angeles)
What is a Devotee?
Prabhupada: Devotees… To become devotee is not so cheap thing. You don’t think that because you have got a tilaka you have become devotee. Why do you think like that?
Prabhupada: That Bhaktivinoda Thakura, eita eka kalira chela, nake tilaka, galaya mala: “Here is another follower of Kali. He has got tilaka and mala.” Sahaja bhajana kacen mamu, sanga laiya parera wala “He is worshiping, bhajana, taking another’s wife.” Sahaja bhajana kacen mamu, sanga laiya parera wala, ei ta eka kalira chela “Here is a servant of Kali. Simply he has changed his dress with tilaka and mala.” Bhaktivinoda Thakura says. If you take tilaka and mala and do all nonsense things, then you are not a devotee. You are Kali-chela. To become a devotee is not so easy thing.
Prabhupada: Devotee means sa gunan samatityaitan brahma-bhuyaya kalpate. He is above these material laws. That is devotee. Brahma-bhuyaya kalpate. He is in the Brahman stage. That is devotee. If you take…. That means sahajiya. “Because I have got a tilaka and mala, I have become devotee.” This kind of cheating will not do.
Pseudo-Devotees / Pseudo-Vaishnavas:
“Bhaktivinoda Thakura says, Kali-cela. He indicates that there are other Vaishnavas, pseudo-Vaishnavas, with tilaka on their nose and kunti beads around their neck. Such a pseudo-Vaishnava associates with money and women and is jealous of successful Vaishnavas. Although passing for a Vaishnava, his only business is earning money in the dress of a Vaishnava”. (CC.Madhy.,Ch.1, Text 218 / 220, purport)
“A mundane person in the dress of a Vaisnava should not be respected, but rejected. This is enjoined in the sastras (upeksa). the word upkesa means neglect. One should neglect an envious person. A preachers duty is to love the Supreme Personality of Godhead, make friendships with Vaisnavas, show mercy to the innocent and reject or neglect those who are envious or jealous. There are many jealous people in the dress of Vaisnavas in this Krishna Consciousness movement, and they should be completely neglected. There is no need to serve an envious person in the dress of a Vaisnava. When Narottama dasa Thakura says chadiya vaisnava seva nistara payeche keba, he is indicating an actual Vaisnava, not an envious or jealous person in the dress of a Vaisnava.”
“A jealous person in the dress of a Vaisnava is not at all happy to see the success of another Vaisnava in receiving the Lords mercy. Unfortunately in this age of Kali there are many mundane persons in the dress of Vaisnavas and Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura has described them a disciples of Kali. He says, Kali-cela, he indicates that there is another Vaisnava, a pseudo-Vaisnava with tilaka on his nose and kunti beads around his neck. Such a pseudo-Vaisnava associates with money and women and is jealous of successful Vaisnavas. Although passing for a Vaisnava, his only business is earning money in the dress of a Vaisnava. Bhaktivinoda Thakura therefore says that such a pseudo-Vaisnava is not a Vaisnava at all, but a disciple of Kali-yuga. A disciple of Kali cannot become an acarya by the decision of some high court. Mundane votes have no jurisdiction to elect a Vaisnava acarya. A Vaisnava acarya is self-effulgent, and there is no need for any court judgement. A false acarya my try to override a Vaisnava by a high-court decision, but Bhaktivinoda Thakura says that he is nothing but a disciple of Kali-yuga.” (Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Madhya-lila, Ch 1, 218-219)
Pseudo-Gurus:
“We should be very careful before accepting a Guru The sastras enjoin that before we take a guru we study him carefully to find out whether we can surrender to him. We should not accept a guru suddenly, out of fanaticism. That is very dangerous.” (The Science of Self Realization, chapter 2, ‘Choosing a Spiritual Master’)
Prabhupada: “I am practically seeing that as soon as they, our students, begin to learn a little Sanskrit, they immediately feel they have become more than their guru. Then the policy is to kill their guru and become guru themselves”. “As soon as he learns that Guru Maharaj is dead, now I am so advanced I can kill guru and become guru. Then he is finished.” (Srila Prabhupada 1976).
Prabhupada: So-called gurus, they are so-called gurus. They are not gurus. That is already explained. If one does not speak what Krsna speaks, he is not guru. If you accept so-called guru, that is your misfortune. What can be done?
Prabhupada: “This is the function of the GBC, to see that one may not be taken away by maya. The GBC should all be the instructor gurus. I am the initiator guru, and you should be the instructor guru by teaching what I am teaching and doing what I am doing. This is not a title, but you must actually come to this platform. This is what I want.” (to Madhudvisa 4 Aug, 1975)
Beware of false, unauthorised Gurus
“By a false display of religious sentiments, they present a show of devotional service while indulging in all sorts of immoral activities. In this way they pass as spiritual masters and devotees of God. Such violators of religious principles have no respect for the authoritative acaryas, the holy teachers in the strict disciplic succession (…)Instead, to mislead the people in general, they themselves become so-called acaryas, but do not even follow the principles of the acaryas.” (Sri Isopanisad, mantra 12, purport)
“There are many jealous people in the dress of Vaishnavas in this Krishna Consciousness movement, and they should be completely neglected. A false acarya may try to override a vaishnava by a high-court decision, (2/3 hand vote) but Bhaktivinoda Thakura says that he is nothing but a disciple of Kali-yuga.” (CC.Madhy.,Ch.1, Text 218 / 220, purport)
PSEUDO GURUS IN THE GARB OF RELIGIOUS PROPAGANDISTS
The pseudo religionists have neither knowledge nor detachment from material affairs, for most of them want to live in the golden shackles of material bondage under the shadow of philanthropic activities disguised as religious principles. By a false display of religious sentiments, they present a show of devotional service while indulging in all sorts of immoral activities. In this way they pass as spiritual masters and devotees of God. Such violators of religious principles have no respect for the authoritative acaryas, the holy teachers in the strict disciplic succession.
THEY IGNORE THE VEDIC INJUNCTION ACARYOPASANA–”ONE MUST WORSHIP THE ACARYA”–and Krsna’s statement in the Bhagavad-gita (4.2) evam parampara-praptam, “This supreme science of God is received through the disciplic succession.” Instead, to mislead the people in general they themselves become so-called acaryas, but they do not even follow the principles of the acaryas. These rogues are the most dangerous elements in human society. Because there is no religious government, they escape punishment by the law of the state. They cannot, however, escape the law of the Supreme, who has clearly declared in the Bhagavad-gita that envious demons in the garb of religious propagandists shall be thrown into the darkest regions of hell (Isopanisad Text 12)
The fate of false Gurus:
“These rogues are the most dangerous elements in human society. Because there is no religious government, they escape punishment by the law of the state. They cannot, however, escape the law of the Supreme, who has clearly declared in Bhagavad gita (16.19-20) that envious demons in the garb of religious propagandists shall be thrown into the darkest regions of hell. Sri Isopanisad confirms that these pseudo religionists are heading toward the most obnoxious place in the universe after the completion of their spiritual master business, which they conduct simply for sense gratification.” (Sri Isopanisad, mantra 12, purport)

The Mercy of Srila Prabhupada
“By the mercy of the spiritual master one receives the benediction of Krsna. Without the grace of the spiritual master, one cannot make any advancement. Therefore, I should always remember and praise the spiritual master. At least three times a day I should offer my respectful obeisances unto the lotus feet of my spiritual master.”
(from Gurvastakam Verse 8.)

Allow me to relate some thoughts of mine ...
I gave up more web pages on this week. I said hello, and I related that the door of my heart is not locked. I did not go far ... so everybody may decide that he visits freely, or no.
I did not idle lately. I save it to many hearts, but the doors were locked usually. Seven were locks on the door of some of the hearts. But I put a letter always onto the doorstep,, I had been here... - answers did not arrive ...
I made a pledge on the other hand! I vowed to struggle along yet clearer man to be. I am struggling along yet more humble to be. I try to serve even better. Everything remained because of this I spend my spare time on this. I talked about this to nobody yet. It would be asked certainly: - you will make a profit out of this? He your money? - Oh, of course! I am craving the richness, but not some, as you believe it.
The affection is the component of all modes of existence and his mover. Most live for themselves only, and others are used for the satisfaction of their desires, their will. We see this, their lounge, we feel. The conditional mood supports this in our sentences !!! - For example: I do what you would like, if ...
The thank you a kind, beautiful word! But reports nothing if is not cleanness behind it. Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON; SPIrit-net - here, this church the unselfish clear affection service's church.
What can we do? The hearts have to desire the cleanness, and to fetch him! It was said in the garden of your soul the pictures, the garden, the music are beautiful, and on all of them ... but they do not find the time for this. Thank you for it nicely ...
They do not enter already on the gate of the garden because of this .. the affection can be given, but it is not possible to force it. The faith not bare necessities, some than the food and the drink, the house, and the property . few people know that it is not possible to live without it!
My knowledge is so small for me, than the sand. The Lord gave a blessing to me, that I may be growing here. There is not something else for me, than my affection ...
I am praying, that everywhere, and for everybody, here, and in the garden of your soul the thank you be a true, clear word! No only a shining picture ... because of the humble, real affection rich life, the clear thoughts, and intentions mean the real ideal richness! Wish for everybody the Lord in Krisna spiritual joy, happiness!
"Even the greatest philosophical speculators cannot have access to the region of the Lord. It is said in the Upanisads that the Supreme Truth, the Absolute Personality of Godhead, is beyond the range of the thinking power of the greatest philosopher. He is unknowable by great learning or by the greatest brain. He is knowable only by one who has His mercy. Others may go on thinking about Him for years together, yet He is unknowable." Welcome Chris and Rajesh! Thanks for joining us here.
There are so many rules and regulations, but for chanting Hare Krsna, THERE ARE NO HARD AND FAST RULES. Thank GOD !
Srila Prabhupada explains what faith is very succinctly:
“It should be understood, that if one’s heart is in the mode of goodness, his faith is also in the mode of goodness. If his heart is in the mode of passion, his faith is also in the mode of passion. And if his heart is in the mode of darkness, illusion, his faith is also thus contaminated. Thus we find different types of faith in this world, and there are different types of religions due to different types of faith. The real principle of religious faith is situated in the mode of pure goodness, but because the heart is tainted, we find different types of religious principles.”
Mahasana dasa said, May, 2011;
All these transcendental qualities are the characteristics of pure Vaisnavas. They cannot be fully explained, but I shall try to point out some of the important qualities:
Devotees are always merciful, humble, truthful, equal to all, faultless, magnanimous, mild, and clean. They are without material possessions, and they perform welfare work for everyone. They are peaceful, surrendered to Krsna, and desireless. They are indifferent to material acquisitions and are fixed in devotional service. They completely control the six bad qualities: lust, anger, greed, pride, illusion, and envy. They eat only as much as required, and are sober. They are respectful, grave, compassionate, and without false prestige. They are friendly, poetic, expert, and silent, that is they do not speak whimsically.

[...] Let everyone be engaged in whatever occupation he now has. Simply let him worship Lord Krishna by the result of his activities in Krishna consciousness. That will adjust the whole situation and everyone will be happy and peaceful within this world. In the Narada-pancaratra the regulative principles of devotional service are described as follows: “Any activities sanctioned in the revealed scriptures and aiming at the satisfaction of the Supreme Personality of Godhead are accepted by saintly teachers as the regulative principles of devotional service. If somebody regularly executes such service unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead under the direction of a bona fide spiritual master, then gradually he rises to the platform of serving in pure love of God.” Full Chapter

"Śrī Madhvācārya has brought our attention to this quotation from the Nārāyaṇa-saṁhitā:
dvāparīyair janair viṣṇuḥ
pañcarātrais tu kevalaiḥ
kalau tu nāma-mātreṇa
pūjyate bhagavān hariḥ
"in the Dvāpara-yuga one could satisfy Kṛṣṇa or Viṣṇu only by worshiping opulently according to the pāñcarātrikī system, but in the age of Kali one can satisfy and worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead Hari simply by chanting His holy name." Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura explains that unless one is directly empowered by the causeless mercy of Kṛṣṇa, one cannot become the spiritual master of the entire world (jagad-guru). One cannot become an ācārya simply by mental speculation. The true ācārya presents Kṛṣṇa to everyone by preaching the holy name of the Lord throughout the world. Thus the conditioned souls, purified by chanting the holy name, are liberated from the blazing fire of material existence. In this way, spiritual benefit grows increasingly full, like the waxing moon in the sky. The true ācārya, the spiritual master of the entire world, must be considered an incarnation of Kṛṣṇa's mercy. indeed, he is personally embracing Kṛṣṇa. He is therefore the spiritual master of all the varṇas (brāhmaṇa, kṣatriya, vaiśya and śūdra) and all the āśramas (brahmacarya, gṛhastha, vānaprastha and sannyāsa). Since he is understood to be the most advanced devotee, he is called paramahaṁsa-ṭhākura. Ṭhākura is a title of honor offered to the paramahaṁsa. Therefore one who acts as an ācārya, directly presenting Lord Kṛṣṇa by spreading His name and fame, is also to be called paramahaṁsa-ṭhākura."
Hello everyone! Here is a Vaisnava Hare Krishna video about the role of the Feminine Principle in traditional ecstatic bhakti yoga. Sri Krishna Caitanya gave us a good example as to eternally serve Her.

"If you have to see God, then you have to apply the ointment of love of God in your eyes, and then your eyes will be cleansed and you'll see God. This is the process. Premāñjana. Prema means love of God, and añjana means ointment. Just like sometimes we do not see correctly. In India, there is a kind of powder called surma. They apply it and they see clearly. Or some, any other. Similarly, there is possibility of seeing God with these eyes, provided you cleanse it. And what is the cleansing process? Love of Godhead, that's all. If you actually learn how to love God... That is practical. If you love somebody, in spite of being engaged in so many other occupation, you see your lover always—"When shall I meet? When shall I talk with him or with her?" This is practical. So if it is materially possible, if you develop your loving tendency... You have got the loving tendency. That is natural. Because living being is part and parcel of God. God is loving, so we have got that propensity of love. But our loving propensity has turned into lust at the present moment due to material condition. So if you want to purify that lust tendency into love, then you can see God. That is the condition. That we'll have to learn. That is called bhakti-yogam, bhakti-yogam, which we are teaching, Kṛṣṇa consciousness. The human life is meant for understanding God, for seeing God, for talking with God, for behaving with God. That is possible. But you require little training. From the animalistic life, the animal cannot talk of God, cannot understand of God, cannot see God. But if we remain in the animalistic way of life, then it is not possible to see God and talk with Him. But if we purify ourself, if we apply the ointment of love of God on the eye, then premāñjana-cchurita-bhakti-vilocanena santaḥ, those who are saints... I think this "saint" word has come from the Sanskrit world santaḥ. Santaḥ is Sanskrit word. Santaḥ sadaiva hṛdayeṣu vilokayanti. Those who are saintly persons, those who have trained themselves in the affairs of love of Godhead, they can see God constantly within their heart. That is possible."
"Jivera Svarupa haya, nityera krsnadasa "
Means we are not these vehicles, the human form, which we are inhabitting and leasing currently. We are originally eternal Pure Spiritual Beings, made of sat chit and ananda, means blissful being in full knowledge eternally, with our own eternal names and identities and pastimes and forms, residences and vehicles, and we reside in the spirtual sky, the paravyoma.
But we left there temporarily for adventure, so here we are. But now, after so long a time here, we are realizing again that we want the highest love, we are for returning to that Vrndavana, wherein all our lost associates and Loved Ones reside. So we hope to find our way to a better place, a fulfilling consciousness.
The Assaociates in the spiritual world see our suffering, and so They send powerful search parties out to recover us. This process of dancing and chanting Hare Krishna is one such mercy extended directly to us, by the most recent search party, called the "sankirtana party movement" , known worldwide as the Hare Krishna movement.
The sankirtana movement was predicted to go to every town and village of the world by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, some 550 years ago, and our spiritual teacher, His Divine Grace 108 A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Pranbhupada, acting under orders of his spiritual master, fulfilled this divine prophecy in our times.
His disciples have been given the authorization and duty to spread this mercy and bestow it freely upon everyone within the universe who will receive it.
The culmination of all kinds of yoga practices lies in bhakti yoga. All other yogas are but means to come to the point of bhakti in bhakti-yoga. Yoga actually means bhakti-yoga; all other yogas are progressions toward the destination of bhakti-yoga.
Therefore beware because:
The Bhāgavatam (11.5.3) confirms this as follows: "Anyone who does not render service and neglects his duty unto the primeval Lord, who is the source of all living entities, will certainly fall down from his constitutional position."
Three questions poped up in my mind after reading this most clear, precise and enlightening explanation of yoga:
1. Why do people think to themselves they know and understand what is *yoga*? ~ They are superficial posers, bad merchants, playing very hazardous games.
2. Why don't they want to *know* - instead they pretend to know something about it?
3. Have they ever read Bhagavad Gita, if nothing else? Why they don't read it? And if so, why don't they *understand* it??? And finally -- what in the world are they actually doing??!??
I really don't understand what kind of curtain is placed upon their eyes......
~
And then the answers came to me: this confusion about what is yoga is due to missunderstood terms from ancient original scriptures and original teachings. For example: one can read the text I posted above, and skip the key term here: self-realization. Without knowing and understanding all the stages of self-realization, one can not understand sole and ultimate purpose of human existence. And self-realization comes in package with God's realization, and God's realization is not the realization "I am God!" LOL! LOL!
Few tips that might be helpful about definitons on self-realization from dictionary:
self-re·al·i·za·tion - Noun
~ Fulfillment of one's own potential
~Soul recognition. The entering of Soul into the Soul Plane and there beholding Itself as pure Spirit. A state of seeing, knowing, and being.
~The spiritual search takes us in many directions, introduces many new ideas, give promises and via many well meaning teachers. But it is only when we come into contact with a self realized being that our search can be directed meaningfully. ...
~The progressive experiential comprehension of the self as consciousness, as soul and of Godhead.

Vaisnava Devotional
life involves exchanges of loving service; There are five primary flavors or rasas;
Five primary Rasas; 1 neutral ie appreciation, awe and reverence, 2 servant-master, 3 friend ship ( unequal or equal), 4 parental/protector, 5 lover. These vary in degrees of intimacy and "thickness" of bhakti. All are fully relishable and satisfying.
Appreciation of Absolute Truth
1. neutral appreciation, santa rasa, awe and reverence; yogis, sages, scholars, neophytes, some animals
Knowledge leads one to appreciate the existence of the Supreme
One who through cultivation of knowledge realizes his intellectual limitations, takes to yoga for direct unhindered perception.
By determined contemplation, practice of the disciplines of yoga, one may come to the realization of the localized Godhead, Supersoul.
Others follow the path of bhakti emphasized by Sri Caitanya for our times, and chant Hare Krishna.
Such greatly elevated yogis are known as saints of devotion, also.
This is Srila Jaggannatha dasa Babaji, chanting Hare Krishna.
Realizing the Absolute, some remain in this poisiton of neutrality of awe and reverence. A spirit cow for example, may have a mix, including awe, and parental affection also !
2. servants; dasya rasa, sadhaka bhaktas, devotees in general
Here is Lord Brahma, on lotus, Creator of our universe in service to Govinda, left side.
3. friends; sahkya rasa, may be in reverence or as equals, or even slightly superior raltionship to Krishna.
Arjuna, Krishna's warrior buddy, seen at back
4. Vatsalya rasa, Mother Yasoda, Krishna's mothers, His Fathers, older siblings, uncles, etc.
Father Vasudeva
Mother Yasoda
5. Lovers, madhurya rasa, may be married, or parakiya, unmarried

Chanting or vibrating sounds in groups, with instruments, is called sankirtana. Dancing often accompanies.
This video depicts ancient Vedic India the singer is Prahlada Maharajah, born into a demoniac family, much like many of us. His Father, the great King Hiranyakasipu ( means gold and soft beds) had conquered the higher and lower dimesional worlds. However, Naraharideva, the Lion-like Avatara of Lord Krishna, came to save His great devotee Prahlada. This scene is sometimes after the event, as an auspicious sankirtana is starting.
One who is not liberated cannot perform bhakti yoga. However, by attempting to, we gradually become qualified. This is the mercy of the guru.
By the mercy of Krsna, one gets guru, and by the mercy of guru one gets Krsna.
The first understanding is that you are not the body.
We are riders on a machine made of material energy, riders on the storm of material existence. We are inhabitting the physical and subtle material forms, inserted into our life-streams, filling them to our current capacites.
We are in the realm beyond the body, but idenfitying with the bodies, like observors experiencing an amazing ride, the last word in entertainment, as it were! But due to past misdeeds and karmas, we endure a shrunken restricted spiritually handicapped state, that we wish to be rid of, to rise to higher states.
The eternal platform is wanted, beyond death and birth. We desire pure bodies of eterna, blissful knowledge, not just mostly temporary blood and bones.
This lightning path of bhakti yoga can bring you to those things, those things which are rightfully yours, your inheritance from the Richest All Opulent and All Powerful Godhead.
As is our tradition since time immmorial, there is no charge for this knowledge, and our professors take vows of poverty. This knowledge will liberate you.
