Why Can't the Divine be a Person? BASU GOPAL (ACBSSP)

original from ashtara command mayavadi new age site

I am a person-- you are a person-- why can't the Divine be a person?
There are those who would say that God cannot be a person , but I say to them why not?
If the divine is less than the creation then that would mean that the creation is Supreme. But the creation emanates from the Divine. In the divine creation we see so many many people and beings.
To dare to declare that that from which everything emanates is not personal has a certain insidious subtle implication. The subtle implication is that they are declaring their own Supreme postion out of some type of jealous enviousness. It is a bait and switch philosphy. It implies that they have knowledge of everything and can say what can and cannot be possible. To declare that the divine cannot be personal -- means that "I" know everything and "I " know what can and cannot be possible. I am the Supreme God.
There are those who say ---" I am God".Well you are a little little itty bitty God- a God in miniature-
a drop in an ocean of divine existence. You do contain a cetain percentage of the qualities of Divinity. But that ocean of unlimited individual divine drops of Godness can never equal the infinte nature of the whole ocean. Isn't it satifactory enough to be a drop--- a part of the divine ocean?
Do you have to be the whole ocean itself?
Can't you be satisfied to be a part of the great Divine ocean?
Now taking this a bit further--- if the Divine is a Supreme person-- and I am also a person--then I have a relationship with this person.
Would it not behoove you to try to find out what this realtionship is?

You have a way to do this which you would like to share? :)

Well it is interesting that the relationship one can have with the supreme is reflected in the very relationships we have with our fellow living beings. According to the Vedic Wisdom of ancient India there are 5 relationships that one can reawaken-
according to our own intensity of love. Its starts out with neutrality. Like the relationship of the plants animals and insects to the earth. They are spiritual beings and have a neutral relation based on love. Like the love of a dog or a cow or a tree.
Does anyone feel love for a tree? Has anyone ever hugged a tree? Its a kind of neutral relationship realizing the spiritual essence within and appreciating its glorious presence.Do you love to walk on fresh green grass? When this relationship becomes a bit more intense it is said to progress to a sense of servitude. Well my master is very magnanimous and great and gives so much let me give a little bit back in the form of trying to serve. This is what they call to serve God--- to respect God's exaulted position and to try to do something back realizing that divine source from which everything emanates. When that service increase a bit more intense then there is a desire to be friends. Not only do i want to serve God but I want to be best buds and share in some of the fun and festivities of a spiritual life.Tell a few jokes have some fun maybe wrestle or play a game or eat lunch together. When that love increases a bit more you can actually take even a protective stance and try to keep God from getting into trouble. All these more intimate types of relationships are very exaulted. You can become the father of God( of course so much stage play but the intense feeling is there) if i dont feed God lunch He could die. You could take on a relationship of being the mother of God and give protection for His mischieveous behavior. Or you can even become the intimate lover of God. This love between male and female in the material dimension is only a perverted form reflection of the divine love. God belongs to me --- my beloved and I belong to God.
Or you can even hate God and want to kill Him and watch out cause he is coming to kill you. But this is not so desirable in most people's eyes,,, but at least somehow or other try to have some relationship.

liked what you said for the most part. though you talk about god as if it/he/she has form and is a separate being. my personal understanding is that god is consciousness.

now if your talking about bramha, thats different. and i believe that quite a personal "friendship" is capable, but the parabrahman, good luck ;o)

on a somewhat related note i did hug 5 trees today, and was really quite loving :) also had a samadhi type experience with a rather lovely mountain as well in the process in communing with the tree that eventually led to samadhi with, well its samadhi what do you think?.

personally i believe the trees and mountains know whats goin on. they experience samadhi at all times and are not judgemental and do not think in a dualistic nature.

quite honestly i dont think i've met too many individuals(in this life at least) that can compare to the beauty of a tree.

admittedly a tree can't say things in the way of words(at least not the kind most of us are used to listening to), but it can and does do a great deal of service for mankind(cleaning the air and what not).

and if you are ill and need to be rejuvenated there is nothing better than going out and sitting under a large pine tree(i've found that these have more prana than most for some reason) and allowing it to do healing work on you(if it gives you permission).

not saying this is the way it is, just my experience :)

much love & many blessings

namaste,

des

eck....*separate=rather, "more well defined boundaries" ;o)

I had a difficult time understanding... However, I actually get a warm feeling from trees. I don't know why

Well it seems kind of appropriate not to feed the trees when one wants to get rid of them :) Of course this can be expressed in different ways... Allegories where trees describes the desires, negative states within, seems to be quite common...

From what I have read (and am also exploring) one has to kill the roots of the tree, the roots of the many different trees, in order to kill the tree... Every detail of the bad states... In order to expand your consciousness and to get more spiritual aspects within us...

Perhaps I misunderstood the allegory you posted though...

In the Bhagavad Gita the material world is described as an upside down banyan tree with its roots upwards and its branches downwards.
banyan.gif
The roots go upward to the spiritual realm which has its foundation in the divine love of Radha Krishna.
The branches leading downwards are the material desires that keep one fixed in a dense jungle of endless wants and needs and desires.
By watering the root of the tree which is upwards the branches leading downwards actually become satisfied and fulfilled. Without watering the roots - the branches cannot derive the nousishment they really need.

Search for Gnosis; Basu Ji has not directly answered your question so I will add; Simply by being sin free and instead serving always Godhead and His devotees,  taking Lord Caitanya's mercy in the form of praying /chanting Hare Krishna mantra, or any real Names of God, one becomes rightly situated immediately, and in due course, like a flower automatically springs from the seed when it is planted and watered, the individual awakens to their eternal identity; a flowering vine arising !  There is no artificial imposition on the mind, everything is known by the Self when it is awakened.
