How I came to Krishna Consciousness by Bhakti Pursottama Swami

PS; Padmapani and I had just come from the Kumbhamela at Triveni Prayaga, where we were blessed to do some personal service to Srila Prabhupada and also do sankirtana there. Then, we travelled doing street kirtanas by bullock cart with Lokanatha Swami and eventually reached Varanasi on the eclipse of moon, 500th anniversay of Mahaprabhu visiting Venkateswara Temple, which we did also, singing hari haraya nama krsna etc before Viswanatha Linga and Priests there, then Padma and I, who were high school friends many years ago and who seperately joined Iskcon, went to Puri, as described, and afterwards, I went to Mayapura and took second initation before Prabhupada , and Padma went to Egypt to start the mission going there. My wife and I hope to live in India again soon, Padma renounced his married life, and is now maintaining despite poor health. He started and Editted the Vaishnava Journal for many years, and maintains a website devoted to Srila Prabhupada memories and tales.

Still alive and preaching, Maharajah! I have long wondered whatever happened to Mahesh Candra Pattanaik! Padmapani Prabhu sent me a share of your video just half an hour ago... I am easily reached at puredevoteeseva.ning. I do not frequent Facebook nor Dandavats nor PAMHO.com. so much. It would be very pleasing to exchange some stories and katha! Krsna is so wonderful, it is like magic that suddenly my two questions, where is Padmapani, and where is Mahesh Prabhu? - were both answered so nicely, thanks for recording the video! Padmapani is in Western Canada, still Krsna conscious as always, and I am in central Canada currently. Tamohara dasa , Bh.S, MSc. Curiously, I got an MSc and practised audiology, after being more or less obliged when the new acaryas took over ISKCON. But those days are changing, we find good friends do not have the old anomosities from the poisonous past. Padmapani and I worked together in our privtae offices in Coquitlam for a time, and sent money to help with the Bhubaneswara Krsna Balarama Temple construction, 92-95 ish. I was allowed to speak at the samadhi installation there in B. in '97, have not been back to India since, but hope to, one day again soon, Krsna willing. Specifically, Orissa is a good place for me.

BP Swami as a young man in Puri was astute, intelligent, and most gacious. He was clearly from a nice Vaisnava family of histoty there, and we were honored by his attention, and welcomed the invitation to his home for kirtan and Prasadam. It was lovely to meet his family there, Father, and share krsna katha, 1976. I ended up relocating from Montreal to Bhubaneswara the next year, 1977. We a year or so later re-met briefly at Puri and Bhubaneswara, while we the Bhubaneswara brahmacaries and Srila Gour Govinda Swami, were still living in the simple cottage, in about 1978. I believe you spoke with him at that time. I remember being concernned about your future, and praying to Krsna to keep you no matter what happened. I do not know how except by the mercy of Srila Prabhupada's books that you were so inspired when we met in Puri first times! I did the same when i joined. But we were pure of habit for years already at that time, all of us actually, and we Iskcon men were chanting many rounds daily. I did later carefully send you, from Montreal, where I was doing service for Jagganatha Swami there, a letter or three, and a copy of Srimad Bhagavatam canto one?, one of the set anyway, and a couple of other smaller books, and I am so thrilled you enjoyed them and took them so seriously! I recall your earnest inquiries by mail once or thrice, and it was inspiring to me to have such a nice penpal. In your case, however, as sastra points out, this was due to Mahesh Swami Bhakti Purushottama being a demigod wih four arms fromVaikuntha at birth, or more even than that. That is the case of all Jagannath Puri residents. Anyway, Now years later, you are doing such nice services and are appearing happy. Probably over-worked, lol!, but that is an expression of love. Hare Krsna! Hope to hear and or see you again very soon, Maharajah , obeisances.

I am in awe at how Time changes and fulfills so much in our lives. I would like to include your written experiences re Gour Govinda Swami in the period 1976-1980 or so, as I am about to compile a short book on the topic, halfway done. Your testimony of that time period juxtaposed to one told from my point of view of the experience of meeting your good self and family, would make interesting reading for other devotees in future.
