A note from Trinikrta Trnavarta dasa; PAMHO. AGTSP!
I was recently reading part of an interesting book by Rocheford about ISKCON nowadays...I think he's a sociologist who did one other book about the movement years ago...Anyway, he and the contributors, who are other mundane scholars, point out the growing Hinduization and the changes...in the intro he cited a fairly recent study showing that a healthy percentage of ISKCON members have some sympathy for the Ritvik view, despite as the author put it, efforts by ISKCON to put it down. Nobody lives in the temples anymore, or even wants to do sankirtan anymore...the book shows that it's pretty much already become the First Church of Krishna.
My (for what it's worth, which is nothing) idea is that in the face of this total inversion of everything Srila Prabhupada wanted, that the best that can be done is go back to the basics of chanting, and at the risk of becoming jnanis, reading and understanding the books thoroughly, though it seems in this age, book distribution and spreading the message may have to take different forms..apps instead of paper books? Internet ads?
Hare Krishna,
TT Dasa
