WHAT IS CHRISTMAS
Christianity does not follow the teachings of Jesus, which were dedicated to Lord Shri Krishna. The testimony to that is the name of the religion Christianity. Christ is Hristos (Kristos) or Krishna.
However, Constantine the Great destroyed Christianity when he became the Roman Emperor and made Christianity the official religion of the Empire. In this way, Christianity was no longer a teaching, it became a religion. That transpired only 330 years after Christ. The mass of people would never be Krishna conscious, A devotee is very rare as confirmed by Shri Krishna in Bhagavad-gita 7.19. And by adopting Christianity as the official religion of the Empire, it was destroyed.
The masses of people continued to worship the demigods under the disguise of Christianity. We can practically see that most churches are named after saints and not after Jesus. If you are curious to know who are all those saints and how Christianity today is one confused religion that majorly worships the Demigods and does not follow the teachings of Jesus, you can order my book “Moden Saints-Ancient Deities”. The links will be listed in the first comment under the article.
Christmas is just a time for worshiping the Sun, as so is also Easter. The shortest day of the year falls on the 22nd of December. In the old Bulgarian calendar, there were three days marked as 0 days after the 22nd of December. During these days, the Sun is switching gears, so that he can start moving on his Northern course. It is not that the Sun will start moving all of a sudden to the north. It is a process.
For these three days, the Sun stays very close to the Earth and to his mother Aditi, and seems as if he is resting. That is why people celebrate the day of the Christian family on the 24th of December. The first day when the Sun embarks on reaching his northern path is the 25th of December. However, from the 25th of December till the 14th of January, the Sun is just accelerating his speed. You can notice that the day stays equal in length for this period. Even when the sunrise moves with one minute back, the sunset also moves back with one minute. In this way, the day stays the same length and is not growing.
Officially, the Sun starts moving to the north on Makara Sankranti or when he enters the sign of Capricorn. The day then starts growing with one minute every day. This is the official celebration and some Christians who follow the old traditions still celebrate the New Year on Makara Sankranti or the 14th of January. Makara Sankranti is the actual day for giving presents as well since the Sun starts giving away more of his light.
As for Easter, it is the official day when the light of the Sun has become more than the darkness of the night and officially the light has been resurrected.
We can practically see that Christianity is a worship of the Sun without realizing the significance of the Sun as Surya-Narayana and thus has almost nothing to do with the teachings of Jesus, which are only to be found in the teachings of Shrila Prabhupada today.
One conclusion from this story is that it would be a mistake to try to merge the official power of governance with Krishan consciousness. Many want that outcome, but we already see from Christianity that Krishna consciousness should stay on a transcendental level and never aspire to make all people Krishan conscious by force. Devotees should strive to be pure, just like Shrila Prabhupada wanted to boil the milk and not attract useless followers. Purity is the force and this is what would attract other people to the movement and not the accommodation of other beliefs as many are striving to do today. So, it is of topmost importance for everyone to understand what purity means. Only when there is purity Varnashrama will automatically manifest.
Hare Krishna, Merry Krishna Month! After all, Shri Krishna also states in the Bhagavad Gita 10.5 that Margashirsha, or November-December, represents Him personally. We are already in the month of Poush but still, half of the month of December is in Margashirsha or the month of Shri Krishna. OM TAT SAT
