These are subtitled in English. Note that they use our culture's terms such as kalpas, brahmanas, yojanas, etc indicating that the root culture of both the Indians and the Indo-chinese and even the Chinese is the Vedic culture. As they have their Bodhisattvas, it may be said that the Krsna Movement is like that; we seek to be delivered ourselves by helping others along the same road of deliverance. "This sankirtan movement is the prime benediction for humanity at large, and delivers the merciful nectar for which we hanker."
All the world's religions say the same; they all describe horrendous hells, whether Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Vaisnavas etc. The intent seems to be to scare the less intelligent into avoiding bad karma and thus not harming others. I have some confidence that such hellish places can exist, but suspect them to be shorter-lived than all that in the Buddhist videos! A migraine headache, for example, is absolutely hellish existence, but sooner or later, one dies, the pain is gone.
Yes, i, much like Lou may be thinking, when pushed , to simply resist all the harder. Force and violence simply make me angry and resistant.
But we are the prodigal sons, the inheritors of the unlimited opulances of Vaikuntha. We need merely give up false ego identifying with matter, and when liberated by devotional service and chanting Hare Krsna, then we will be content. Meanwhile, we naturally strive for fulfillment of our needs of the moment, and this selfish absorption leads us to think we have a separate interest than Krsna's exactly.
Generally, people in conditioned thinking do not identify enough with Krsna. They think of Him as a god "out there" somewhere, whereas He is the Supreme Self, He is our Self in purest power and realization. The whole material existence is insignificant, and is here because the jivas insist on it. We think we have a separate self-interest, at odds with the purports of Vaisnava religion and behaviors. We are not convinced that Krsna's service is indeed our own eternal self-interest.
I pray that when i leave this body that the complete stunned bewilderment of matter will also be gone, and my sight will be real and unlimited then. I am aware of how stupid-ed down we are here; we can hardly see the nose on our face, what to speak of anything beyond that. Our heads are dull like old rubber.
We starve, we fight, we regret, we hate and gripe and on and on it goes like pigs in stool down here in the muck. We are as chipmunks running around after peanuts compared to the demigods, what to speak of the residents of Vaikuntha.
Sometimes devotees become angry at Krsna and curse and vilify Him, as they are very ill or abused. I can see how a person in the Buddhist hells could indeed enter such a thought pattern!
Whether we accept or like it is not relevant. Srila Prabhupada had a broad and mischievous grin when given the first printed copy of the fifth canto. He was very pleased to read this book. Whatever is our mentality, the pure devotees are happy with the Fifth Canto, so using our intelligence, we must conclude that there is something wrong with our vision and understanding if we do not have a similar mood. Srila Bhaktisiddhanta said that if we see some flaw or fault with Krsna, it is our own misunderstanding. If we look about, we see so many birds, such a struggle for existence! Diseases, lack of food, fighting with other birds, nest robbers eating the eggs, insects and lice, short life span, predators. Such a life while appearing nice, birds twittering etc., in reality is a harsh and brutal struggle. The birds did not choose such a life, it was forced upon them according to their karmas. So hellish existence is an observable fact. Krsna expressed a wish to end all material existences, but the jiva souls insist on them. Slavery is not an option; we must have our free will, it is our pride, so we insist on the existence of realms where we do not seem to need Godhead. Thus, we create hell ourselves. Unlike the Buddhists, there is no Vaisnava hell that lasts eternally, though some souls engage in such sinful activity that they are trapped virtually forever in hellish existence. Thus, they are said to be eternally conditioned. Srila Prabhupada tells that whatever we can conceive of, has its reality somewhere. That leaves a lot of room to move! Let us be wise and not go there anymore. Our fierce independence has proven to be a farce; we are not God, we are dependent gods, our existence is relative and His eternal and pure. But when we are in our natural state, there is no difference between ourself and Krsna, and what differences there are constitute a dance of pleasure eternally. The Muslims say Allahu akbar ! God is great, when things occurr beyond their comprehension or ability to deal with. It is seen that the jivas in a conditioned state are sometimes unable to cope emotionally with the realities of His Supreme unlimited pastimes, so it is not surprising. Note that Krsna is also very kind and does everything possible to help us achieve liberation; so if He sees fit to allow the various hells, there is good reason behind it, not vindictiveness or cruelty.
