Spartacus, Marco Polo, the adventures of Tamal Krsna and Machiavelli, what to speak of the Lila of our Lord Rama!, and of the Pandava brothers? In all cases, endless positioning, politicking, manoevering, intrigue, violence, and war, as well as riches and sex and earthly power. Even Mahaprabhu was sometimes plagued by so many tax collectors and foreign military men and illusioned religionists.

When a younger man, for me, some of those things like power and sex and money held fascination, like chess pieces on a boardgame or a massive hunting expedition. But now, I tend to find it all ultimately lacking in settled peace, in stability, and thus there is no lasting sense of happiness. The passionate nature dominates or plays a large role when the Lord's pastimes interact with the asuras on Earth, or when the materialists try to become themselves God, catching the rest of us in their foolish games. Then, the secondary rasa such as ghastliness and humor, chivalry and anger and horror, dominate overmuch.

In such a time, one may eventually become weary of this world, and wish more than ever to be Back to Home , Back to Godhead...
