Bhumi devi dasi: In 1975

Bhumi devi dasi: In 1975 we went to India for the opening of the Mayapur temple and the Krishna-Balaram Mandir. We were there for six weeks with Srila Prabhupada, but during that six-week period, we took a side trip to Hyderabad. There was a Bengali sweet maker there named G. Pulla Reddy, who had a big home in Hyderabad, and he invited all the devotees over for lunch. A large group of us were taking prasadam on the front lawn while Srila Prabhupada was in the house. After I was done, I was looking for a place to wash my hands, and I walked into the house where I saw Srila Prabhupada talking to the Reddy family and a few others. I was wondering if I should go in, and then I thought to myself, “Do it. You’ll never get a chance again.” [laughs]
I went in and I sat down really close to Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada was talking to the ladies of the house and they were laughing. It was a jovial moment. He was telling them when women come in the picture, everything gets complicated. He said, “Even Lord Rama—He was God Himself. But when Sita came into the picture, then there was so much trouble.” All the women in the room were laughing because Prabhupada had a beautiful sense of humor.
