Open Abuse of Devotees

BY: LALITA DEVI DASI

May 06, 2013 — USA (SUN) — I just wanted to comment on a recent article by Mahapurusha dasa titled "Higher Ethical and Moral Standards". I really can't believe that Ravindra Svarupa dasa is still in power after all of this. Obviously the evidence is stacked against him and he even admits that he assaulted Ghandharvika dasi, in convoluted terms. How is it that we can have clear and open abuse of devotees in this movement and this person is still in charge?

And where is the outrage from the esteemed female leaders like Malati, Laksmimoni and Urmila Prabhus? Its funny that they are all pushing for female gurus, but are failing to stand up for the very basic human treatment of women in this movement. It proves to me, and other female devotees that I know, that they clearly care more about their positions of power than they do for advocating for the decent treatment of other matajis.

Another interesting thing I noticed after following this incident from the beginning, is the complete lack of defense from any of this so-called gurus disciples and from any individual ISKCON leaders. This really indicates that everyone else probably feels the way me and other devotees I know feel about this issue. If we have clear and open abuse of devotees, whether male or female, I think this movement is finished. How can any women in ISKCON stand for this? The GBC, especially Malati, should be totally ashamed. I saw a picture of her sitting next to Ravindra recently at a GBC meeting. Some advocate she is for women in this movement.

He needs to resign. I have seen devotees treated badly before but this is ridiculous. And Ghandharvika should also be ashamed of herself for not standing up for herself and not pushing for his resignation. I understand why she minimized it, but it is a disservice to Vaishnavis everywhere.

But this is my message to Ravindra: Everyone knows what you did, how can you be so shameless? Step down on your own, because when Krishna gets rid of you, which He will, it's not going to be pretty. This guy has to be stopped, and I am calling on the female leaders especially. It's really a shame how they sold out to the "good old boys" club and threw the rest of us women under a bus. A leader shouldn't even touch a person in the private areas of their body, what to speak of kicking them there. Ravindra, you need to go immediately.

  • Ravindra Svarupa Controversy

    BY: DEVI DEVI DASI

    May 11, 2013 — USA (SUN) —

I wanted to comment on the recent article posted by Lalita devi dasi about Ravindra Svarupa. What the heck is going on with this movement? I know that there have been many abuses of power and people in the past in ISKCON, but this is certainly a different time where at least we have the Internet. Devotees, especially female devotees, are talking about this everywhere I have been and it is certainly an open controversy. Doesn't the GBC see that not removing this person from any position of authority severely weakens their own authority? How can anyone with a brain in their head accept a leadership that allows a "guru" to assault a person so blatantly?

What recourse does anyone now have if something like this happens to them? If the GBC had any sense, they would have called the police themselves. Ravindra Svarupa is a total liability to this movement. People like him who casually abuse people are million dollar lawsuits waiting to happen. Judging from the articles by Mahapurusha, Ravindra allegedly treats devotees badly as a matter of course. What bad preaching it is not removing this person from power. I told my mother about this incident and the first thing she said was, "How can you be a part of a religion that allows its leaders to treat people like that?" What a revealing statement coming from a person who is totally favorable to our philosophy.

In all my years as a member of ISKCON, this is the worst cover-up of abuse I personally ever experienced. Obviously there have been other worse abuses, but the way that the GBC has stuck its head in the sand about this one is revolting. This cover-up of Ravindra Svarupa is sending a clear statement to all the members of ISKCON that the leadership cares nothing about the members of this movement and only about the position of its leaders.

My question is, what would have happened if someone had kicked Malati in her backside? Well, obviously you see that her feelings and dignity matter a lot more than poor Ghandharvika. Some equal vision these people have, what a tragedy of decency. I hope the GBC wakes up and sees that Ravindra and people like him are the last thing this movement needs as "leaders". It's just bad management and even worse preaching, especially to the devotees

  • GBC Doesn't Follow Their Own Laws Against Abuse

    BY: LALITA DEVI DASI

    May 12, 2013 — USA (SUN) —

GBC {LAW] 501. THAT the GBC Body hereby declares that the International Society for Krishna Consciousness does not condone abuse of any kind, especially that which is directed towards dependents such as women, children, aged and cows. Battery, verbal and emotional abuse are destructive to the devotional creeper and thus considered serious Vaisnava aparadhas. Any attempt to justify this type of abusive mentality on the basis of sastra is misconstrued and is firmly rejected by all practicing Vaisnavas.

According to this GBC law, the leadership is not following their own rules in regard to the assault perpetrated by Ravindra Svarupa dasa. What to speak about not following the civil laws regarding assault. In regard to the article by Devi devi dasi, this total neglect of their own principles proves that their attempts at rectifying past abuses of power are just empty sentiment and lip service. Somebody like Ravindra Svarupa is totally making this movement liable to lawsuits because the GBC are ignoring their very own directives.

It is so obvious to me, and everyone else I know, what he did to Ghandharvika. And I think if anyone looks at the evidence, they will think the same thing. And as Devi devi stated, letting Ravindra Svarupa keep his position of authority only weakens their own authority. How can I or anyone accept leaders who back abusers? What's even scarier to me is that Ravindra Svarupa is the GBC and also the Temple President of ISKCON Philadelphia. Not only is this person assaulting devotees, headed for the pujari room nonetheless, but there is no oversight in that Temple whatsoever because he is both the GBC and Temple President.

I am really scared for the devotees living there. Now Ravindra Svarupa, a person who has a known abusive history, knows he can do what he wants and get away with it. We all saw the video of Ravindra attacking the Back to Prabhupada distributor. The GBC has to force him out of that Temple and out of the leadership. By not following their own "laws", they are being complete hypocrites and liars. It is a real tragedy that the GBC doesn't learn from their past mistakes. And it's a shame that innocent devotees in ISKCON Philadelphia have to pay the price for the GBC's neglect and failures.

  • ISKCON's Culture of Abuse

    BY: DEVI DEVI DASI

May 16, 2013 — USA (SUN) — After thinking about my previous article about the assault of a female disciple by Ravindra Svarupa dasa, I am still dumbfounded by the GBC's lack of action in his removal from the leadership. I think any rational outsider would probably wonder why an organization like ISKCON would risk the liability and danger of having a person like him in a leadership position. Not only does it seem like the ethical and moral thing to do, but wouldn't other leaders be scared of implicating themselves in the condoning of abuse?

Well, it doesn't take much research into ISKCON's recent and past history to see that there is a substantial culture of abuse by leaders and a lack of response from ISKCON authorities. Not only is there a lack of response, but leaders who perpetrate vast amounts of abuse are given high positions of leadership, are publicly venerated and allowed to openly interact with children!

The example of the remains of Kirtanananda being venerated, worshipped and placed in samadhi by several ISKCON leaders stands out the most. This guy was more or less the Charles Manson of ISKCON, perpetrating crimes and abuses that defy the imagination. And here are two of the biggest Gurus in ISKCON, Radhanath Maharaj and Gopal Krishna Maharaj, openly prostrating the remains of this villain. What a total insult to all of this person's victims.

Then there is the other great example of being rewarded for your abuse: Bhavananda being in charge of the Vedic Planetarium Temple in Mayapur. This guy is implicated in all types of abusive behaviour. So what's the "logical" next step for the ISKCON leaders? They put him in charge of the biggest and most important Temple project in the history of our movement? Another great insult to Bhavananda's many victims.

Then there is Bhaktividya Purna Maharaj. He is another person who is implicated in child abuse. What's the ISKCON leaderships' action in regard to him? They put him in charge of a school! How could you even imagine something like this happening? Well, this seems to be standard procedure for ISKCON leadership. And once again, this only adds to the pain and insult to all of this person's victims.

This present situation with the abuse by Ravindra Svarupa is just another example of the ongoing abusive culture of ISKCON leadership. All of these things are going to come out to the general public soon enough and it is going to be one of the biggest scandals in modern religious history. And everyone is going to agree with the sane members of ISKCON, that the leadership has created and maintained a dangerous and abusive cult. And still, neophyte devotees question whether criticizing these abusers and their supporters is 'vaishnava-aparadha? What a sad example of blind following and sentimentality.

Maybe devotees should be more scared of offending Srila Prabhupada and Lord Krishna. By staying silent about abusers like Ravindra Svarupa and others, they are allowing abusive people to destroy all of Srila Prabhupada's hard work in his loving service to the Lord. This is the real offense we should be afraid of. Not the criticism of real aparadhis who perpetrate violent offenses against the Lord's devotees and those who reward them for their gross offenses.

    • The devotees are cowards, useless little pukes, who sit back and watch big pukes abuse their women and children and them also, and meanwhile kiss their feet like stupid slaves.

NOTE; Janardana dasa and Yugavatara call us disciples of Srila Prabhupada dogs, declare they will rewrite ISKCON history to make murderers like Tamala asura into heroes, and thus usurp the future in the name of the Illuminati elites. HOW IS ANY KIND OF COMPROMISE WITH THESE PIECES OF CRAP POSSIBLE? iT IS NOT yUGAVATARA; LAWYER/LIAR WHO HELPED STEAL ALL OUR TEMPLES AND GIVE THEM TO PIGS. jANARDANA; ANOTHER fORD nwo rich ELITE, DUPED INTO KISSING bHAVANANDA'S GAY ASS ALONG WITH HIS COUSIN AMBURISH. The NWO OWNS Iskcon.
