"According to the Jyotir-veda, a lunar eclipse takes place when the Rāhu planet comes in front of the full moon. It is customary in India that all the followers of the Vedic scriptures bathe in the Ganges or the sea as soon as there is a lunar or solar eclipse. All strict followers of the Vedic religion stand up in the water throughout the whole period of the eclipse and chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra. At the time of the birth of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, such a lunar eclipse took place, and naturally all the people standing in the water were chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare." -- A. May 9th/10th 2013 is GLOBAL SOLAR Eclipse. In India it is a common tradition to place Tulasi leaves in water and food items including grains to avoid cosmic rays from contaminating food with unexplained cosmic rays. It is also known in Shastras that if one chants during a Lunar or Solar Eclipse then he gets more benefit of that chanting. Just as one gets more benefit of chanting the Hare Krsna Maha Mantra during the brahma-muhurta that runs around 3:30 am to 5:30 depending if the Sunrise is at 6:30am.

I am putting timings for New York and India for the entire duration of the solar eclipse. Please rem to chant as much as you can during these timings!

Start of Eclipse: 17:25:14 May 9th 2013
Maximum Eclipse point: 20:25:13 May 9th 2013
End of Eclipse: 23:25:23 May 9th 2013

INDIA:

Start of Eclipse: 02:55:14 May 10th 2013
Maximum Eclipse point: 05:55:13 May 10th 2013
End of Eclipse: 08:55:23 May 10th 2013

Remember in Western Hemisphere the solar eclipse will come first, so it will be on May 9th. But those who need timings for their areas, please comment and I will put the timings accordingly.

Remember to put Tulasi leaves in all foodstuff and water BEFORE these timings!!
