"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want."
Famous lines from a famous prayer. But what is the nature of sheep?
Of all the animals, it has no defence manoevers at all, no teeth, no kicking, no hitting, no bad smell, no camouflage, except to mingle with the other sheep and hope it is not eaten by the wolves. They run slowly, their fleece makes it easy for a predator to catch on and hold on.
A sheep is very stupid, very passive, easily caught, delicious to eat, and is very easily killed by predators.
The mood is of passive surrender from a position of weakness and need.
Elsewhere;
"He anoints my head with fragrant oil, and sets a place of eating for me, He exalts me before my enemies. My cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
Om Men
In these lines, we are shown that the Lord Godhead is personal and understands the fight of the men on Earth well, and is prepared to exalt us, His servants, and overcome the perceived enemy. This mood is a bit different from that of the sheep described in the previous verse.
The devotee in this verse is encouraged to deal with enemies, not merely be herded as a sheeple. The Lord is ready for the fight and to exalt His devotee before the eyes of the Enemy.
The mood is of a surrendered but self-actualizing cooperatively acting chivalrous servant.
Again, there is a question of the Lord providing, the vision of Him as supplier of necessities and victories. This is thus tinged with business as opposed to love, but at least Godhead is the centre of focus.
The common thread, is that the Lord is our savior and well-wisher, that He prefers His devotees over the nondevotees, and that He cannot be conquered, therefore His devotee also becomes strong and enduring.
Otherwise, two moods; one rather sudra-like, one a little more ksatriya-like.
Srila Prabhupada says that sudras like communism, vaisyas like capitalism (democracy), ksatriyas like kingdoms, brahmanas like anarchy. So, there should be no surprise at there being a mixture of moods in the Biblical verses, despite there being no clearly delineated social system, as is given and followed elaborately by ancient still-functioning Vedic cultures.
Men have a natural predilection according to their karma, as Sri Krsna explains in the Gita, and the Vedic culture has systematically maximized the potentials of each class by providing scriptures and ideals suited to each class of men, to uplift them systematically, life after life, if necessary.
Obama has been much supportive of communist ideals though setting himself up as god-like dictator and serving fascism ( merger of state and corporations under a dictator) , Romney mostly of capitalism mixed with an elitist/fascist kingdom, and both in this support low-class killers instead of righteous ksatriyas for spreading their social cults and money-mechanisms. There is no real ksatriya, nor what speak of brahmana, or even vaisya or real sastric sudras, so it is a society of cheaters and the cheated, so what can be expected from such an arrangement? The people will suffer.
Brahmanas should teach Harinama sankirtana, and cooperative service of bonafide spiritual masters. This vibration level of Godhead is intended to correct all underlying flaws and allow the Kingdom of Radha Krsna to descend to us trapped in hell on Earth. This chanting must go one, then other things will fall into proper alignment. the world leaders should be renounced brahmanas, not elites rich nor greedy militaries, what to speak of know-little sudras, or worse, candalas and mudhas.
Christianity has much to say about morality and ethics, though the churches do not often seem to practice them on a wide-enough scale, thinking to eliminate all other creeds by any means imaginable.
