Humans go through periods of hormone-induced infatuation and madness that drives them, as if by force, to seek out the opposite sex. They are desperate for a mate to hold. They imagine that the karma-lives and bodies that they are maddened by are eternal, are real in that sense, and so they search so hard for love, in that human life, forgetting who they really are...
Therefore, to avoid the painful and harsh demands of nature, Vedic culture arranges marriages young enough, and thus the youth are saved from mere animal existence. The elders look on with knowing wonder.
