1966.-01 FAILED
Srila Prabhupada: “The Gaudiya Matha institution has failed.” (Srila Prabhupada Letter [SPL] March 11, 1966)Note: The post 1930s Gaudiya Matha artificially made “gurus,” exactly as the post-1977 GBC has done. This resulted in the dismantling of that institution into small, competing guru factions.
67.01 ACHARYA IN THE CENTER
Srila Prabhupada summarizes his original intent and purpose for his society: “I wish that every temple shall retain their independent identity and keeping the acharya [himself] in the center.” (SPL February 11, 1967)Note: This instruction is Srila Prabhupada’s simple master plan for His movement. It is still applicable today, more than ever.67.02 ENVY
Srila Prabhupada: “Kirtanananda was awarded the position of sannyasa because he wanted it, although I could understand that he wanted to be a spiritual master himself.“(SPL October 27, 1967)
Note: Kirtananda was later declared by the post-1977 GBC to be their best “new guru,” despite the fact that it was known that Kirtanananda had a tendency to defy Srila Prabhupada, to be inclined to homosexuality, and that indeed he sometimes thought he was equal to, or perhaps better than, Srila Prabhupada. We can see why the GBC wanted the letters hidden. They could then prop up people like Kirtanananda as “pure devotees,” and hide the fact that these folks were not actually trusted by Srila Prabhupada.
67.03 SRILA PRABHUPADA’S EQUAL?
Srila Prabhupada: “Kirtanananda is a crazy man, that is proven. He says that he has become equal to the spiritual master but he is such a fool that he does not understand the principle of disciple even in ordinary worldly affairs.” (SPL September 11, 1967)
67.04 LIP SERVICE
Srila Prabhupada: “By lips he says he is a surrendered soul but by action he is thinking differently.” (SPL October 6, 1967)
67.05 NO CONFIDENCE
Srila Prabhupada: “I may disclose herewith that I never took Kirtanananda into complete confidence.” (SPL October 9, 1967)
67.06 DEVICES
Srila Prabhupada: “People are attracted to the chanting of Hare Krishna and not Kirtanananda’s devices.” (SPL October 13, 1967)
67.07 MAYA
Srila Prabhupada: “Simply by his sannyasa dress he thought himself as cured of all material diseases and mistakes, but under the influence of Maya, he thought himself a liberated patient, just as a foolish patient thinks himself cured of the disease.” (SPL October 17, 1967)
Note: In 1994, some residents of Kirtanananda’s “zone” have only just now been able to see the above quotes. The GBC’s plan, to hide, suppress and deny Srila Prabhupada’s actual quotes has effectively kept people “in the dark” about their alleged post-1977 “gurus.”
There were other instances where GBC’s artificially concluded that they were already “gurus“. For example, in January of 1975, Srila Prabhupada complained in a meeting of his senior GBC’s that some of His leading men were already trying to become guru, even while He was still present. He warned them sternly that this should never be done.
Later, in a May 27, 1977 conversation between Tamala Krishna, Bhavananda and Srila Prabhupada, it became very evident that some GBC’s were still thinking of “who would be guru” after Srila Prabhupada’s departure:
Srila Prabhupada: Not only property. Our prestige, our position …Everything is envied. Everywhere we are first class.
Tamala Krishna: Yes, there is no rival
Bhavananda: There will be [GBC] men, I know. There will be men who will try to pose themselves as guru.
Tamala Krishna: That was going on many years ago. Your godbrothers were thinking like that. Madhava Maharaja…
Bhavananda: Oh, yes. Ready to jump.
Srila Prabhupada: Very strong management required and vigilant observation…
Note: This is another conversation that was suppressed and not released to the devotees. It was only released in a limited printing in 1990.68.01 REINITIATION DENOUNCED
Srila Prabhupada: “I am greatly surprised for Bon Maharaja’s initiating you in spite of his knowing that you are already initiated by me. So it is a deliberate transgression of Vaishnava etiquette and otherwise a direct insult to me. I do not know why he has done like this, but no Vaishnava will approve of this offensive action…” (SPL March 3, 1968)Note: Sridhara Maharaja also began to “reinitiate” a number of Srila Prabhupada’s disciples after His departure. He even provided new spiritual names. Similarly, after 1977, the GBC began drafting reams of “position papers” on the topic of “reinitiation” for ISKCON members, but it is clearly evident herein that the whole concept was never approved of by Srila Prabhupada. To sum, if someone is bogus, he could never have given spiritual initiation to another in the fist place.69.01 SRIDHARA MAHARAJA ENDORSED?
The only written instruction where anyone was advised to seek shelter of Sridhara Maharaja (of the Gaudiya Matha) was written in January, 1969. Achyutananda dasa was, at that time, associating with Bon Maharaja, a Gaudiya Matha deviant “guru” who had homosexual tendencies and many other problems.Achyutananda dasa was ACTUALLY advised to go to Germany and serve Srila Prabhupada there. As a clearly less desirable second option, if he would refuse to do that, he should at least leave Bon Maharaja and stay with Sridhara Maharaja. Later, this letter was taken out of context as a “full endorsement” of Sridhara Maharaja as an authority by the GBC and others.69.02 A RECOLLECTION
Himavati dasi and a group of Srila Prabhupada’s devotees went to visit Sridhara Maharaja’s temple in Navadvipa. They noticed that some of his devotees were chuckling and making fun of them, and worse, of Srila Prabhupada’s efforts to purify “Westerners or mlecchas.” This very much upset Srila Prabhupada’s devotees. Himavati dasi then gave a tearful admonishment to Sridhara Maharaja’s temple members. When the devotees returned to Srila Prabhupada, they related the incident to him. He stated, “I don’t want any of you to go to any of the Gaudiya Matha’s temples ever again.“
