We Have Met the Enemy and He Is Us

— I very much appreciated Ravanari prabhu's article of yesterday, "Mission Drift, Prabhu? Oh, It's Much Worse than That". Identifying the early seeds of one type of cancer within his ISKCON, Srila Prabhupada wrote this to Hamsaduta on September 2, 1970:
"Regarding the poisonous effect in our Society, it is a fact and I know where from this poison tree has sprung up and how it affected practically the whole Society in a very dangerous form. But it does not matter. Prahlada Maharaja was administered poison, but it did not act. Similarly Lord Krsna and the Pandavas were administered poison and it did not act. I think in the same parampara system that the poison administered to our Society will not act if some of our students are as good as Prahlada Maharaja. I have therefore given the administrative power to the Governing Body Commission."
Today, more than forty years later, we are left with the unfortunate reality that, as the cartoon character Pogo put it: "We have met the enemy and he is us." Our GBC themselves are leading the charge into Mayavadism, New Age Interfaithism, Feminism, Humanism, Hinduism, and so many other non-Krsna conscious isms.
As the Roman philosopher Cicero wrote in 42 B.C. (paraphrased):
'A nation cannot survive treason from within... the traitor wears the face of his victims, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation—he works secretly...he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared.'
Cicero had only a mundane understanding of 'the baseness lying deep in the hearts of men'. Followers of the Vedas know it to be material contamination, the influence of the modes… the desire to be Krsna rather than serve Krsna. And while Cicero feared traitors more than murderers, Srila Prabhupada warned his followers that one of the greatest problems is, we are not enough afraid of maya.
What the liberal, modernist GBC leaders are perpetuating upon Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON society is nothing less than an act of treason. The men among them who remain loyal to the unalloyed teachings of the Founder-Acarya will either cut off these rotted, cancerous members, or they will be thoroughly infected by them and die from the same poison. Either way, we must believe that by Krsna's arrangement, there will always be some devotees who, like Prahlada Maharaja, cannot be polluted by the poison and will continue to perpetuate the mission of His Divine Grace, As It Is.
