Bhugarbha Goswami, along with his Godbrother Lokanatha Goswami, located lost sacred places in Vrindavan by the order of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. To avoid material distractions, Bhugarbha Goswami would perform his worship to Krishna in a cave. Because of this, he received the name Bhugarabha (bhu means "earth," garbha means "cave" or "hidden place").

SRILA BHUGARBHA GOSWAMI
Just as there is very little mentioned in the scriptures about the life of arala Lokanatha Goswami, in the same way, there is little written about his dear friend Srila Bhugarbha Goswami. Srila Lokanatha and ara Bhugarbha Goswami were of one heart and mind. On the order of Caitanya Mahaprabhu they went to live in Vrndavana. Bhugarbha Goswami was a disciple of Gadadhara Pandita. Among his disciples were ara Govindadev’s pajari Caitanya dasa, as well as Mukundananda Cakravarta, Prema Krsnadasa and others.
Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja Goswami writes: The eleventh branch of Gadadhara Goswami was Bhugarbha Goswami and the twelfth was Bhagavata dasa. Both of them went to Vrndavana and resided there for life.” ara Kavikaraapura writes in his Gaura-ganodesa-dipika that Bhugarbha Goswami was formerly the gopi named Prema Manjari in Vrndavana. While in Vrndavana, Bhugarbha Goswami passed away and entered into the unmanifest pastimes of the Lord on the fourteenth day of the full moon in the month of Kartika. Lokanatha Goswami and Bhugarbha Goswami lived together in Vrndavana as one.
Srila Narahari Cakravarta Thakura writes about them in his Bhakti-ratnakara: “Bhugarbha Goswami and Lokanatha Goswami were world-preachers; they were so close to one another that they were like one body.”
In Vrndavana, Bhugarbha Goswami and Lokanatha Goswami were regarded as among the principle Goswamis, as they were senior by age and experience to many. The foremost among the subsequent followers of Rapa Goswami, Narottama dasa Thakura, writes about Bhugarbha Goswami, with whom he had much affectionate association: O Hari! Why am I addicted to this abominable path of karma? I didn’t worship Radha-Krsaa in Vraja even one iota, nor could I understand the position of spontaneous devotion-raga-marga.
Svarupa Damodara, Sanatana Goswami, Raghunatha Bhatta, Raghunatha dasa, Gopala Bhatta Goswami, Bhugarbha Goswami, Jiva Goswami, and Lokanatha Goswami-I never offered a drop of service to their lotus feet. How then shall I attain the goal of life?
Krsnadasa Kaviraja is among the most exalted rasika-bhaktas, devotees whose sole interest is in relishing the mellows of devotion to Radha-Govinda and Mahaprabhu. He compiled the Caitanya-caritamrta which describes the pastimes of ara Caitanya and the Govinda-lilamrta, describing the pastimes of Radha-Krsna. Hearing the pastimes of Gaura-Govinda would melt even stone, but it had no effect on my consciousness. Not only have I failed to take advantage of the association of all these great souls, but I have also neglected their associates and followers. What a sad story my life has become. My life and birth are all useless.
Shame on me. Alas, alas. Thus laments Narottama das
It is said that to avoid material distractions Bhugarbha would perform his bhajana underground. Thus he received the name Bhugarbha (bhu means earth, garbha means cave, womb, hidden place). His samadhi (pictured below) stands near Sri Rupa Goswami’s in the Radha Damodara temple courtyard.

SRI KASISVARA GOSWAMI
Kasisvara Gosvami, in pursuance of the order of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, established the Deity of Sri Gaura Govinda within the temple of Sri Sri Radha Govinda in Vrindavan.
When Srila Rupa Gosvami discovered the Deity of Sri Govinda within the hill at Gomatila he immediately sent word to Mahaprabhu, Who was in Puri at the time. Mahaprabhu then requested Kasisvara to go to Vrindavan to assist in the worship of Sri Govinda.
Kasisvara replied, “Prabhu, to give up Your association will cause my heart to split in two. Therefore please consider how I can honour Your request without giving up my life at the same time.”
Sri Gaurahari could understand the heart of Kasisvara. He solved the problem by giving a Deity of Himself to Kasisvara. Then He sat down with that Deity to take His meal. Kasisvara was in complete ecstasy to see this. Prabhu told him that the name of this Deity is Sri Gaura Govinda. [Bhakti
Ratna, 2nd Taranga]
Kasisvara brought this Deity of Sri Gaura Govinda and installed Him to the right of Sri Govinda. This Deity is still present with Sri Govinda at His present residence in Jaipur (pictured below). The disciple of Kasisvara Gosai, Govinda Gosai, was the very dear servant (pujari) of Sri Govinda. [CC Adi 8.66]
There is a very ancient temple in Catara, near Ballabhapur which is reputed to be the temple founded by Kasisvara Gosvami. Nearby is the temple of Sri Sri Radha Ballabhajiu, founded by Kasisvara’s nephew, Sri Rudraram Pandit. Kamalakar Piplai’s temple of Lord Jagannath is also very close by. All three of these temples are within a few minutes of the Sri Rampur railway station near Calcutta.
Kasisvara Gosvami was known in Vraja as the sakhi called Sasi Rekha. (Gaura Gannodesa Dipika 166)

Shri Ishvara Puri sent his disciples, Govinda and Kashishvara Pandit, to Jagannatha Puri to humbly serve Lord Chaitanya. Reluctant to accept service from His Godbrothers, Shri Chaitanya finally agreed since it was His guru's wish. Named Kalavati and Sasirekha in Vraja lila, Govinda and Kashishvara bring Yamuna water to Lord Shri Krishna. Kashishvara Pandit, who was strong and powerfully built, used to walk before Lord Chaitanya keeping the crowds from touching Him. And after kirtans he would serve Prasadam to all the Devotees.
Shri Gaurasundara asked Kashishvara to move to Vrindavana for worshiping Shri Rupa Gosvami's Deity of Govindaji. Fearing separation from Lord Chaitanya, Kashishvara said, "My Lord, if I must give up Your association my heart will split in two." Out of compassion for His Devotee Lord Gaurachandra gave him a Deity of Himself that was so perfectly formed it exactly resembled the Lord. "Gaura-Govinda," the Deity's name, is a golden form of Krishna playing flute. Then Kashishvara Pandit happily went to Vrindavana to serve Gaura-Govinda and Govindaji.
Shri Sadhana Dipika says, "I worship Shri Kashishvara Pandit whose power of love and devotion brought Shri Chaitanya to Western India as a Deity." Today the original Deities of Gaura-Govinda and Govindaji are lovingly adored by thousands of Devotees in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Kashishvara Pandit's original samadhi is in 64 Samadhis Area.
As there is not much mention of Sri Lokanatha Goswami in Vaishnava literatures, similarly there is not much mention either of Sri Bhugarbha Goswami, who was his very close friend. Following Mahaprabhu's order, they both came to live at Vraja dham. Their hearts were inseparable.
Bhugarbha Goswami was Lokanathas closest friend and constant companion. He was Prema Manjari in Vraja (Gaura-ganoddesha-dipika 187).
bhugarbha-thakkurasyasit purvakhya prema-manjari.
According to the Sadhana-dipika, Bhugarbha was Lokanathas paternal uncle. The Shakha-nirnayamrita adds the following comments on Bhugarbha Goswami:
gosvaminam ca bhugarbham bhugarbhottham suvishrutam |
sada mahashayam vande krishna-prema-pradam prabhum ||
shrila-govinda-devasya seva-sukha-vilasinam |
dayalum premadam svaccham nityam ananda-vigraham ||
I offer my reverence to the illustrious Bhugarbha Prabhu, who is said to have been born from the bowels of the earth. He bestows love of Krishna; he takes pleasure in the service of Govinda Deva, is compassionate, simple and always joyful.
Bhugarbha Goswamis initiating guru was Gadadhara Pandit Goswami. He is therefore considered to be Gadadharas branch. Shri Bhagavata Das, a fellow disciple of Shrila Gadadhara Pandit Goswami, was also a close friend.
Bhugarbha and Bhagavata Das are branches of Gadadhara Pandit, both of whom went to live in Vrindavan. (Chaitanya Charitamrita Adi, 12.81)
Lokanatha Goswami renounced the householder ashrama in 1431 of the Shaka era (1510) and came to meet Mahaprabhu in Nabadwip. Mahaprabhu immediately told him to go and live in Vrindavan, telling him that it was his own intention to take sannyas very shortly and go there himself. Lokanatha started to cry when he imagined the Lord with his beautiful curls shorn and the distress the devotees would feel at his departure. When the Lord saw Lokanathas anxiety, he embraced him and consoled him with various spiritual instructions and Lokanatha surrendered completely to him. When Bhugarbha saw how unhappy Lokanatha was, he decided to accompany him to Vrindavan. The two companions walked through Rajmahal, Tajpur, Purniya, Lukhnow and many holy places before finally arriving in Braj.

Journey to Vrindavana
Shortly thereafter, Narottama's father and his men went to Gauda for business. Narottama seized the opportunity. He somehow managed to trick his mother, then he deceived the guard watching over him and quickly left his home secretly. In fear of being caught, Narottama did not visit Navadvipa, but started towards Vrindavana through the forests. He disguised himself in such a way that no one could identify him. For fifteen days he ran at random, then heaved a sigh of relief.
The miserable condition of Narottama's parents was beyond description. Narottama became the talk of Gauda. "Prince Narottama must have gone to Vrajapura." "He must be the Narottama whom Mahaprabhu had called for in Ramakeli village." "The strength of mind he has manifested is not known to an ordinary man." In this way Narottama became very popular in that town. Nityananda, Advaita and other favorite associates of Sri Chaitanya always thought of Narottama's well being. It is said that he who was fortunate enough to have seen Narottama could forget his fear of material life. Narottama undauntedly passed through the main roads now. Who can describe Narottama's sincere efforts in the service of the Lord? Traveling along the road, he sang the glories of Gauranga with continuous streams of tears rolling down his face. Those who just once looked upon the face of Narottama attained peace of mind. The villages which Narottama selected to halt at each night became blessed by his presence. Whether male or female, anyone who kept company with Narottama during his journey would comment softly among themselves about the wonderful characteristics of Narottama: "Even the golden champaka flower would become ashamed on seeing the beautiful color of this young man's complexion."
"Look at his beautiful face and big eyes. How superb are his nose, cheeks, eyebrows, forehead and ears!" Someone else said, "Look how long his hands are and how broad his chest is." "Who are the fortunate parents of this extraordinary man with such beautiful knees and feet." Someone said, "He cannot be an ordinary human being. He must be a demigod or a son of a king." Another person remarked, "Alas, how sad it is that such a young man has become apathetic toward family life." Others said, "We wonder how his parents are living without him." "Fie to providence, who has no mercy for this boy and has dragged him out of his family at such an young age."
Being extremely moved by Narottama's presence, no one wanted to return to their houses. They brought many things for Narottama to eat and offered him a comfortable bed to sleep on. But Narottama could not eat or sleep; he spent the night in sankirtana. Everyone felt sad to see the body of Narottama smeared with dust. In the morning the villagers did not want to let him go, but Narottama begged their leave. This was the normal scene which occurred daily along his journey to Vraja; Narottama stole the heart of everyone he met.
Within a short time Narottama visited all the holy places and at last, with an enchanted mind, entered Vrindavana. First of all he went to visit Vishrama Ghat in Sri Mathura, where he bathed in the Yamuna and took some rest. In the solitude of the night he began kirtana there. At that time a great Vaisnava resident of Mathura came there carrying many varieties of Krishna prasada and affectionately fed Narottama. Narottama asked him about the well-being of Vraja. With a pierced heart the brahmana informed him of the demise of Raghunatha, Kashishvara, Rupa and Sanatana. On hearing of the disappearance of Rupa and Sanatana, Narottama fell on the ground crying. Striking his head on the ground, he called out, "Kashishvara Pandita, Sri Bhatta Raghunatha." Tears streamed from his eyes like a river, and he was about to faint. Seeing the death-like state of Narottama, the brahmana took him in his lap and consoled him. They spent most of the night together discussing many topics. Late at night, due to the will of the Lord, both them fell asleep. In Narottama's dream, Rupa, Sanatana, Kashishvara and Raghunatha appeared before Narottama. Narottama at once fell on their feet. All of them embraced Narottama and soaked him with their tears. They spoke sweetly to Narottama, some of which the brahmana could hear. With great satisfaction they showered their blessings upon Narottama and then disappeared.
Narottama was unable to tolerate their disappearance. He began to lament, gazing desperately in all directions. The brahmana was astonished to see Narottama's condition. He hastily took Narottama in his lap and tearfully spoke sweetly to him, thanking him for his purifying association. After considerable time the brahmana's emotions cooled and he begged Narottama to come to his house in the morning. Narottama bowed before the brahmana and requested him to let him go. "Please be kind to me and let me go, for I am dying to see the feet of the Goswamis. Please be merciful and help me to fulfill my desires." With tears in his eyes the brahmana affectionately took him in his lap and blessed him. He accompanied Narottama for some distance, but due to his old age could not walk farther. Thus he gave Narottama directions to reach Vrindavana and ordered a man to assist him in his journey. After Narottama's departure, the brahmana, with a broken heart, stood staring at the path.
While walking, Narottama began to think, "Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has brought such a low and unqualified man as me here to the sacred land of Vrindavana. He has sent me to the abode of mercy, Sri Lokanatha Goswami Prabhu. Will he accept me as his servant? Will I be able to hold the lotus feet of Sri Gopala Bhatta, Sri Bhugarbha Goswami, Sri Jiva Goswami and others on my head? Will they show their mercy to a worthless man like me? Srinivasa Acarya is the embodiment of love. Will he love a poor soul like me?" As he thought in this way, his eyes filled with tears, his body trembled uncontrollably, and he was unable to walk a single step farther.
Journey to Vrindávana
Narottama lett a beszélgetés Gauda. Ily módon Narottama vált közkedvelt a városban. Narottama undauntedly át a főutak most.
Narottama egyszerre esett a saját lábán.
A bráhmana döbbenten látni Narottama állapotát.
Ő küldött engem a hajlékába a kegyelem, Sri Lokanatha Gószvámi Prabhu. Srinivasa Acarya a megtestesült szeretet. Will ő szereti a szegény lélek, mint én?
