Dear Devotees,Today is Jagannath Ratha Yatra. In Jagannath Puri, Odisha the Ratha Yatra is celebrated every year. Jagannath, Baladev and Subhadra devi travel on three gigantic chariots and go to the Gundicha temple. They stay there for 7 days and then return to Their own temple. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, after accepting the sannyasa order of life, lived in Jagannath Puri. There, he always performed Sankirtana and distributed Prasadam to all the assembled devotees. The devotees from Navadvipa (birth place of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu) visited Jagannath Puri every year during this time to meet Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and participate in the Ratha Yatra.
Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura wrote a song on the importance of Prasadam, which is chanted by the devotees of ISKCON before accepting and honoring Prasadam.Lochana Dasa Thakura sings:
parama karuna pahu dui jana nitai gaura chandra
saba avatara sara shiromani kevala ananda kanda
kevala ananda kanda: The process of liberation introduced by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is not at all difficult. It is easy and sublime. And above all it is simply joyful. That is the mercy of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Krishna also says: su-sukham kartum (Bg 9.2) Devotional Service is joyfully performed. Srila Prabhupada introduced this joyful process of spiritual advancement all over the world: Chant, dance and eat Krishna Prasadam.
Srila Prabhupada explains: This process is very pleasant: we chant the Hare Krishna mantra, we dance rhythmically, and we eat nice prasada. While enjoying this life, we are preparing to enter into the kingdom of God in our next life.
