Kṛṣṇa consciousness is dormant in everyone’s heart
(The following is a part of the interview with freelance reporter Sandy Nixon took place in July 1975, in Śrīla Prabhupāda’s quarters at the Kṛṣṇa center in Philadelphia.)
Ms. Nixon: My first question is very basic. What is Kṛṣṇa consciousness?
Śrīla Prabhupāda: Kṛṣṇa means God. We are all intimately connected with Him because He is our original father. But we have forgotten this connection. When we become interested in knowing, “What is my connection with God? What is the aim of life?” then we are called Kṛṣṇa conscious.
Ms. Nixon: How does Kṛṣṇa consciousness develop in the practitioner?
Śrīla Prabhupāda: Kṛṣṇa consciousness is already there in the core of everyone’s heart. But because of our materially conditioned life, we have forgotten it. Confession of Tamal Krsna Maharaj to Vrndavan Dasa concerning the ritvik system of initiation.

I Vrndavana Das joined the movement in the year 1978 in Singapore after reading Srila Prabhupada’s Bhagavad Gita and his very inspiring Back To Godhead Magazine. I was so overwhelmed and convinced i decided in giving myself to serving Srila Prabhupada. In the year 1979 I was initiated by Hansdutta Swami through the Zonal Guru System of initiation that was instituted by the GBC.

In my heart I was always wanting to serve Srila Prabhupada but I was told that Srila Prabhupada had now authorised some of his senior men to become his successor Gurus. Since this was the understanding back then I accepted it as an oder of Srila Prabhupada.
