Lord Balarāma became very anxious to see His father and mother, Mahārāja Nanda and Yaśodā. Therefore, He started for Vṛndāvana on a chariot with great enthusiasm. The inhabitants of Vṛndāvana had been anxious to see Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma for a very long time. When Lord Balarāma returned to Vṛndāvana, all the cowherd boys and the gopīs had grown up; but still, on His arrival, they all embraced Him, and Balarāma embraced them in reciprocation. After this He came before Mahārāja Nanda and Yaśodā and offered His respectful obeisances unto them. In response, mother Yaśodā and Nanda Mahārāja offered their blessings unto Him. They addressed Him as Jagadīśvara, or the Lord of the universe who maintains everyone. The reason for this was that both Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma maintain all living entities, and yet Nanda and Yaśodā were put into such difficulties on account of Their

32 / Description of the Rāsa Dance

32 / Description of the Rāsa Dance

Thus hearing the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, speaking to pacify them, the gopīs became very much pleased. And not only by hearing His words, but also by touching the hands and legs of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, they became completely relieved from the great suffering of separation. After this, the Supreme Personality of Godhead began His rāsa dance. When one dances in the midst of many girls, it is called a rāsa dance. So Kṛṣṇa began to dance among the most beautiful and fortunate girls within the three worlds. The gopīs of Vṛndāvana, who were so attracted to Him, danced with Kṛṣṇa, hand in hand.
Kṛṣṇa's rāsa dance should never be compared with any kind of material dance, such as a ball dance or a society dance. The rāsa dance is a completely spiritual performance. In order to establish this fact, Kṛṣṇa, the supreme mystic, expanded Himself in many forms and stood beside each gopī. Placing His hands on the shoulders of the gopīs

The Soul is Called to Chant the Name

by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda

Portrait of Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda

The conditioned soul is first called upon to utter the name of Kṛṣṇa. He should hear the name of Kṛṣṇa from an unconditioned soul who has no attachment whatsoever to the world, for it would suffice to follow the model set by such an unconditioned soul. The conditioned soul will then come to know that chanting is possible for him all twenty-four hours of the day, without using a single moment for any other purpose. If he is thereafter found to be impatient, if he is found to be hankering after a position in this mundane world, he will be a defaulter in chanting the name of Hari, the Transcendental Being.

Kṛṣṇa, or Hari, has no mortal coil to be subjected to worldly assessment, as we have. He does not require any labour on our part, for chanting His Name with devotion involves no effort. So we should accept the views of Śrī Kṛṣṇa Caitanya in our transcendental march, in preference to any other

In Praise of Lord Krishna

Lord Narayana is All Powerful ! The very air and ether vibrate with the solidity of His almighty Power! His walk is like pounding thunder at the hearts of his enemies. The demons flee in incredible fear before Him.

None can match even a speck of His Forms of unlimited eternal-truth-knowledge,satcidananda vigraha, ie pure spiritual infinite Being, fully originally Personal and the originating source of all and all "things". In reality He has no beggining nor end, nor do we His sparks, as Lord Krsna in Gita informs us "Never was there a time when I did not, exist, nor you..."

He is the Supreme Controller, the Sanction giver. He is the the Benefactor and Well-wisher of all His children, equally. Not a dust mote moves without His authority, as He is the sarva karana karanam, the cause of all causes; the energizing principle and the energy , the action, the object of action, and the seer of all these in full. He is the initial movement of all movements, the Supreme Controller and Enjoye
