"Those who possess prema-bhakti in their hearts generally love the Name to be sung in the old tunes. They don’t want to sing or listen to nonsense. They sing and listen to the traditional songs of hari-nāma. Nowadays, the citizens of this metropolis have not easily grasped the nature of pure bhakti due to lack of good association. They follow their own fanciful concocted method. This is the Lord’s līlā. We can say nothing about it – whatever the Lord desires. When the traditional instruments of khol, karatāla etc. are abandoned, and modern foreign instruments enter all the kīrtanas, there may be plenty of entertainment, but Śrī Bhakti Devī is gradually broken. Nowadays we are so fascinated by anything foreign that we endeavour to incorporate it into our mode of bhajana.

I visited as a brahmacary carrying a small metal suitcase, 1973, but meanwhile more or less starving and with pneumonia in my lung. Devotional service contaminated by the mundane mode of goodness, sattva, is dangerously conditioning. The person becomes enamored by their happy life, and accepts misinformation that backs their position, even if false, and so, soon an inch becomes a mile and one is in maya again. Mode of Goodness is the smiling face of Maya. The only real happiness comes from suddha sattva, uncontaminated consciousness of Sri Krsna and services.

Those who have lived in India in the 90's will be familiar with Chandra Swami and the many scandals he was involved in, including the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi. In addition he was well known as a weapons smuggler, a spy for the CIA, and was closely connected with Adnan Khashoggi (another CIA asset, who was famous for his involvement in the Iran Contra scandal of the 1980's).

Mind cannot be detached. We have got so many desires. So mind's business—to become attached. Therefore, I accept something, I reject something. This is mind's business. So you cannot become zero; you cannot become desireless. That is not possible. Our process . . . just like others, they say: "You become desireless." That is a foolish proposal.
Who can become desireless? It is not possible. If I am desireless, then I am a dead man. A dead man has no desire. So that is not possible. We have to purify the desires
(Now we cannot fly in the air, but when you are free from this body, your spirit soul, within a second you can go to the Vaikuṇṭhaloka. It is so light. Within a second)
So because the Supreme Spirit is within, therefore it is floating. Not that weightlessness. Weight is there, very heavy weight. Just like you can test: This body will float in the water so long you are living. And as soon as the spirit soul goes, then immediately the body goes down.
The law of gravity acts, the so-called law of gravity. This is an example. A child, so long it is living you can take in one hand. But as soon as the child is dead, it becomes heavier. That is natural. So everything is lighter as soon as it is spirit
(So the inhabitants of Vṛndāvana, they do not care who is God, who is not God. That is not their business. But they want Kṛṣṇa and love Kṛṣṇa. That's all)

Every day, all the boys, they would come back to their home and explain to their mother, "Mother, Kṛṣṇa is so wonderful. You see? This happened today." And the mother will say: "Yes, our Kṛṣṇa is wonderful." So much. That's all. They do not know Kṛṣṇa is God, Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Person. Kṛṣṇa is wonderful, that's all.
And their love increases. The more they perceive Kṛṣṇa's wonderful activities, they become more lover. "Perhaps he may be a demigod. Yes." That is their suggestion. When Nanda Mahārāja will talk amongst his friends and the friends will talk about Kṛṣṇa . . . "Oh, Nanda Mahārāja, your child Kṛṣṇa is wonderful." "Yes, I see that."
"Maybe some demigod." That's all. "Maybe." That is also not certain. So the inhabitants of Vṛndāvana, they do not care who is God, who is not God. That is not their business. But

Ūrdhvaṁ gacchanti sattva-sthā madhye tiṣṭhanti rājasāḥ. If you do not develop further, if you remain whatever quality you have got, just now you remain within this world. And adho gacchanti tāmasāḥ. And if you do not develop goodness or remain in the same quality but you degrade yourself, then again go to the cycle of birth in the animal kingdom. This is the law of nature.

(Because the fighting spirit is also there in Kṛṣṇa. Otherwise, where we get? Because we are part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa, all the qualities of Kṛṣṇa in minute quantity, they are within us. We are sample of Kṛṣṇa, but the . . . wherefrom we get this fighting spirit?)
They, they pay the wrestler to fight with the king. But he's not enemy. He is giving pleasure to the king by fighting, mock fighting. Similarly, when Kṛṣṇa wants to fight, who will fight with Him? Some of His devotee, great devotee will fight with Him. Not ordinary. Just like a king, if he wants to practice
(So as the sun being present, there is no access of darkness, similarly, if you keep Kṛṣṇa always within your heart, there is no more darkness of this material world)
That is the description. Here in the Bhagavad-gītā you'll find: na tad bhāsayate sūryo na śaśāṅko na pāvakaḥ. We cannot imagine how without sun, without moon, without electricity, without fire one can live. Yes, but there is a world like that. You do not require sunshine. You do not require. They are all illuminated.
So that is uttamam. Udgata tama yasmāt, the Sanskrit word, "from which the darkness is completely eradicated." There is another Bengal
