Third Month of Caturmasya Begins

f579daf2009cd8c248b4c9c034eb33cc.jpg

Third month: No milk (if required, it can be mixed with a drop of lemon juice).

Caturmasya stands for ‘four months’. It is the period between sayana and uttana ekadasis. The scriptures refer to this period as the duration of Lord Visnu’s sleep in this universe.

The main goal of observing Caturmasya is to decrease attachment to material things and to increase devotion to Krishna.

Srila Prabhupada writes in Caitanya Caritamrta, “Caturmasya should be observed by all sections of the population. It does not matter whether one is a grihasta or a sanyasi. The observation is obligatory to all ashramas.” He further explains how to observe the vow:  “This is not very difficult. In the month of Sravana one should not eat spinach (green leafy vegetables of the nature), in the month of Bhadra one should not eat yogurt (yogurt used as binding agent for cake is allowed), and in the month of Asvina one should not drink milk (milk sweets, milk by-products are fine).

One should not eat fish or other non-v

prabhupada-sannyasa.jpg

On the morning of September 17, 1959, in the fifty-by-twenty-five-foot Deity room on the second floor of the Keshavaji Math, a group of devotees sat before the Deities of Radha-Krishna and Lord Chaitanya. The Deities were colorfully dressed in royal clothing and silver crowns. Radharani's right hand faced palm-forward in benediction for the worshiper; at Her side, Her left hand held a flower for Krishna. Krishna stood like a dancer, placing His right leg in a casual tiptoe pose before His left, playing His long silver flute, which He held gracefully to His red lips. His long black hair reached down past His shoulders, and the garland of marigolds around His neck reached down to His knees. On His right stood the Deity of Lord Chaitanya, His right arm raised, left arm at His side, His body straight, feet together. He was a soft golden color, and He had large eyes, a well-formed red mouth, and straight black hair down to His shoulders. One level below the Deities were pictures of the spir

Sri Visvarupa Mahotsava

chaitanya2.jpg

Today is a very sacred day in our line. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu took sannyasa and began to search for his brother Visvarupa. While searching, on this day He found out that he was in Pandarapur, and that he had left his body. He had taken samadhi on the bank of the river Bhima. Then, on this day, though Mahaprabhu was observing Caturmasya-vrata very strictly for four months, He shaved his hair. Before this year, He never shaved for these four months, nor did He cut his nails. He observed all the rules and regulations of Caturmasya.

It is said that Sankararanya was the sannyasa name of Srila Visvarupa, who was the elder brother of Visvambhara (the original name of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu). Sankararanya expired in 1432 Sakabda (A.D. 1510) at Sholapur, where there is a place of pilgrimage known as Pandarapura. This is referred to in the Madhya-lila, Chapter Nine, verses 299 and 300.

(Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita Adi-lila 10:106 purport.)

Ananta Caturdasi

ananthapadmanabha-karkala.jpg?w=636&h=477

There are no indications that Gaudiya Vaisnavas perform any extra functions or austerities for this vrata.

The fourteenth day in the bright fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada is known as anantana vrata. The Lord Ananta Padmanabha is invoked in a pot filled with water and decorated with coconut and flowers. Special puja is celebrated with fourteen varieties of dishes.

Of all the vratas assigned to caturdasi, the Anantacaturdasi-vrata (Bhadrapada sukla caturdasi) seems to be the most important and widely observed. It is also called ‘Anantapadmanabha-vrata’. Lord Visnu is believed to have appeared on this day as Padmanabha lying on the couch of Ananta (the thousand-hooded serpent).

Srila Haridas Thakura Disappearance

image006.jpg&transform=W560

The Supreme Lord Anantadeva Himself praises Haridasa Thakura, "Even Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva always desire to associate with such Devotees as Haridasa. And the demigods desire to touch the transcendental body of Haridasa. Simply by saying his name, Haridasa, one will be promoted to Krishna's abode." (Chaitanya Bhagavata). (In the image: Shrila Haridas Thakur).

As Prahlada Maharaja appeared in a family of demons and Hanuman appeared as a monkey, Shri Haridasa Thakura appeared amongst the lower caste. Haridasa had a handsome form with all aristocratic features. Highly intellectual, he won all debates in Sanskrit and philosophy. Yet, he never lost his temper. In his youth, he became famous for his extreme devotion and ascetism. Though born in a Muslim family, when he became a Vaishnava, even brahmanas would eagerly smear their bodies with the dust of his feet.

Conor Ryan (Kanai Das) laments:

The overgrown weed filled gardens at Radhadesh Temple, that he once had in wonderful condition.

(Petite Somme 5 Septon, Luxembourg, Belgium 6940).

[PADA: There really is not a whole lot of commentary one can make about these disheartened ex-members of various temples, farms and communities. Its pretty self evident what has happened here, the self-sufficient "varnasrama farms" projects that Srila Prabhupada wanted and ordered (and he said are the next 50 percent of what he wants done) have been largely neglected, and maybe made into giant weed piles with not enough manpower to revive these projects.

We hear reports of various project's: buildings being deteriorated; cow's fences gone down and not repaired; cows suffering due to lack of funds and manpower; heaters going down in winter -- and poor devotees dressed like snow men in the freezing temple inside; and basically a lot of the "

About the year 1500 A.D., the incarnation of God Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu began the Hare Krishna Movement in Navadvip, a city in the Indian province of Bengal. This movement, based on the philosophy of ancient Sanskrit texts of devotion to Krishna like the Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam, spread all over India within a short time. The movement popularized sankiritan, the congregational chanting of the maha-mantra Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare, as the most effective means of God realization for the present Age of Kali, a time of rampant faithlessness, sin and materialism. After 1750 A.D., the influence of the Hare Krishna Movement seemed to wane. Many sects of sahajiyas (cheap pseudo- evotees) sprouted up, each claiming to be the true purveyors of Vaishnava- harma (the religion of Lord Vishnu or Krishna). Because of their bad character, the sahajiyas brought disrepute upon the pure movement of love of God begun by

Lord Vamanadeva appeared within this world from the womb of Aditi, the mother of the gods. He appeared at midday on the shravan-dvadasi, the 12th day of the lunar month of Shravan when the moon is waxing.
There are many lessons for Vaishnavas to learn from the narration of His activities, as found in the 8th canto, 18th chapter of the Bhagavat Purana (Srimad Bhagavatam). Amongst the lessons are these:

1. That God comes to this world in many forms; not just once, in one form, or even many times in the same form, but many times in many forms. He is never limited by the form, but remains all powerful.

2. That all other gods are meant to offer homage to Him. They did this when, appearing as a young child, he was awarded the sacred thread by Brihaspati, the guru of the gods. The sun god gave Him the Gayatri mantra and His father, Kasyapa Muni, a straw belt. Mother Earth gave Him a deerskin and Lord Brahma gave Him a waterpot. Kuvera, the heavenly treasurer gave Him a monk’s begging bowl, and t

Srila Jiva Goswami Appearance

Jiva Goswami

When Shri Gaurasundara came to Ramakeli, Shri Jiva was blessed by having darshana of His worshipable Lord, though he was just a baby at the time. Placing the dust of His lotus feet on the child's head, Mahaprabhu indicated him to be the future sovereign preceptor of the Gaudiya sampradaya. Though he was only a child, Shri Jiva kept the form of the Lord, which fascinates all the world, within his heart. As he grew up, while eating, lying down, in his dreams, while he was awake, at all times, he would meditate on that form. (In the image: Shrila Jiva Goswami).

Shri Sanatana, Shri Rupa and Shri Vallabha were three brothers, all employed in the service of the Badsha Hussain Shah. Amongst the three, there was only one descendent, Shri Jiva. Having been rewarded richly by the Badsha for their sevices, their household life was very opulent. There was nothing lacking in whatever was necessary for the upbringing of the only son. The house was illuminated by the effulgence of the child's golde

8 THINGS SRILA PRABHUPADA DID NOT DO;

1. attend conferences of mayavadis, new age religion, and the new world order, or pray at Jewish holy places, (as Radhanatha and Bhaktimarga and the jewBC demons do)
2. chant 64 rounds a day , as some bogus SNM followers etc insist
3. do Nityananda air-drawing name signs; that is asampradaya
4. let the gbc run anything; the deluded greedy jews did that
5. appoint any acaryas
6. play accordion in sankirtan
7. have women dance like whores in the street
8. allow those who were not his disciples to sit in any place of authority

Which leads us to the question; why in hell do you follow a bunch of jews who do all this ? ARE YOU REALLY THAT TOTALLY STUPID !?

Radhashtami

DSC00131.JPG

The Puranas relate a story concerning the divine appearance of Shrimati Radharani as follows. One day, Vrishabhanu Maharaja went to the bank of Yamuna at around noon to take a midday bath. At that moment he saw a golden lotus flower floating on the water and shining brightly like a thousand suns. Vrishabhanu immediately waded into the river and when he came near to the golden lotus flower, he beheld the most beautiful and radiant form of baby girl lying within the petals of the lotus.
At that same moment, Lord Brahma suddenly appeared there and speaking in a grave voice, informed Vrishabhanu that in his previous life, Vrishabhanu and his wife Kirtida had performed great austerities in order to get the consort of Lord Vishnu as their daughter. Lord Brahma told Vrishabhanu that this girl was the origin of the goddess Lakshmi and that he should take great care of Her. Lord Brahma then placed the baby girl in the arms of Vrishabhanu who became overjoyed, and after taking permission from Lo

Where is the Outrage?!

Yesterday I spoke with a dear godsister whom I've known for over four decades. She is a sincere, dedicated devotee who performs valuable service to the Deities and assists the ISKCON management in putting on festivals. In many ways, her personal life is exemplary: she has good sadhana, admirable morals and works hard. I happened to ask her if she was aware that it had proven conclusively that Srila Prabhupada had been poisoned with cadmium. She replied that yes, she was aware, but didn't feel that the information had any relevance to her: it happened 40 years ago and there is nothing that can be done about it now.

The attitude that the murder of Srila Prabhupada is an unfortunate historical fact that has no bearing on the present situation is not only inaccurate, but it is also a symptom of a crime that is even gr

Lalita Sasti Appearance of Lalita devi

DSC02894-767x1024.jpgLalita is one of the principal eight sakhis of Srimati Radharani in Vrindavan. It means “playful and charming”. Srimati Radharani is also called as Lalita”. She is a very dear friend of Radha-Krsna. Lalita-sakhi and her assistants incarnate from time to time in the material realm to propogate the topmost mood of serving Radha-Krsna, namely to become a maid-servant of Srimati Radharani.

Rupa manjari (Rupa Goswami) is the assistant and follower of Lalita-sakhi; thus all who consider themselves as Rupanuga bhaktas (followers of Rupa Goswami) are ultimately the servants of lalita-devi and thus through the media of the parampara should always be longing to engage in the service of her lotus feet. When that day comes that we are able to please her, she will engage us in the intimate loving service of Sri Sri radha-Krsna according to our heart's desire.

Lalita-sakhi incarnated as Svarupa Damodara in the pastimes of Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu and acted as his personal secretary. "Sri Svarupa Da

Srimati Sita Thakurani Appearance

Sita Thakurani

According to Gaura-Ganodesha-Dipika, Shri Sita Thakurani is Yogamaya. The Gaura-Parshada-Charitvali says that in Krishna Lila, she was Purnamasi, the mother of Sandipani Muni, grandmother of Madhumangal and Nandimukhi and a disciple of Narada Muni. (Gaura-Ganodesha-Dipika, however, says that Paurnamasi in Krishna-lila became Shri Govinda Acharya in Chaitanya lila.) (In the image: Deity of Shrimati Purnamasi, Shri Vrindavan Dham).

Advaita Acharya’s wife was a respectable and noble woman name Sita Thakurani. Taking permission from her husband, she went to Navadwip bearing gifts to see the crown jewel of infants. (Chaitanya Charitamrita 1.13.112)

Shri Sita Thakurani is to be worshiped just as much as Sachi Devi herself, as the mother of the universe. She is the eternal wife of Shri Advaita Acharya. She was the daughter of Shri Nrishinga Baduri. She was married to Shri Advaita Acharya in Phuliya Nagara. After their wedding, Advaita Acharya went to Nadiya, to live in Shantipura. Sita T
