Spiritual Subject Matter

The beauty of Transcendental subject matter is that it never gets old, but rather, becomes more relishable with every reading. For instance, every year we celebrate the month of Damodara or Kartika, with the reading of “Mother Yasoda Binds Lord Krsna”, and singing the Damodarastka prayers, and every year, it becomes more enjoyable and spiritually enlivening. That is the nature of Spiritual Subject Matter.

Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead
By His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda

Chapter Nine

Mother Yaśodā Binds Lord Kṛṣṇa

Once upon a time, seeing that her maidservant was engaged in different household duties, mother Yaśodā personally took charge of churning butter. And while she churned butter, she sang the childhood pastimes of Kṛṣṇa and enjoyed thinking of her son.

The end of her sari was tightly wrapped while she churned, and on account of her intense love for her son, milk automatically dripped from her breast

Srila Prabhupada's photo.

On a morning walk in New Vrindavan, we had some kshatriyas who were supposed to be the protector of the devotees, and one of them asked Srila Prabhupada if it was alright to kill some of the rabbits and groundhogs because they were eating the produce in Krishna's Garden. "They are stealing from the Deities and the devotees. Is it alright if we kill them?"
Prabhupada was disturbed. He said, "No, You should grow enough so that they can eat too." He was visibly very concerned that they should not be killed.

God is an individual Person

God is an individual Person

Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad-gita: "Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings; nor in the future shall any of us cease to be. (Bg 2.12)

Srila Prabhupada explains: " The Supreme Personality of Godhead is the supreme individual person, and Arjuna, the Lord's eternal associate, and all the kings assembled there are individual eternal persons. It is not that they did not exist as individuals in the past, and it is not that they will not remain eternal persons. Their individuality existed in the past, and their individuality will continue in the future without interruption."

Someone said to me, "Quit (ritvik) initiating devotees, Srila Prabhupada cannot say if he accepts or rejects them". Reply; While Srila Prabhupada was before our eyes, he ALWAYS accepted whomever was recommended by the temple president. He made this arrangement with us to act as his representatives. The responsibility is ours, we are his disciples, after all.

My own experience is, that Krsna is real. If a person expresses a desire for diksha as Srila Prabhupada's follower, then the good Lord arranges either for them to get it, or to be sent away by Maya, or possibly they prefer to follow another sri guru, so anyone who thinks it is mechanical is an atheist.

His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
Behind (on left) is the chief culprit Tamal Krishna a.k.a.Thomas Herzig who is alleged
to have conspired with other devious GBC leaders to poison Srila Prabhupada to death.
Note Srila Prabhupada's swollen hands and sun glasses, the effects of the arsenic poisoning.

Dr. Mehta, an Ayurvedic physician who lives in Houston, was shown several photographs of Srila Prabhupada during His last days, and he also observed the video documentary of Srila Prabhupada's last months entitled: "The Final Lesson." Dr. Mehta has been a practicing Ayurvedic physician since 1948. His summary comments are:

"The expression and symptoms of the face, the eyes and the manner of speaking indicate to me that Srila Prabhupada was poisoned, most probably by arsenic or mercury. He Himself said that He was poisoned, confirmed by du

Srila Prabhupada...." Therefore at the present moment there is war, and the human society becomes subjected to be killed in mass massacre—the nature's law. You cannot stop war and go on killing animals. That is not possible. There will be so many accidents for killing. The wholesale kill. When Kṛṣṇa kills, He kills wholesale. When I kill—one after another. But when Kṛṣṇa kills, they assemble all the killers and kill."

Srila Murari Gupta Disappearance

Murari Gupta

Congratulating Murari Gupta, the Lord continued, "You are the incarnation of Hanuman, the eternal servant of Lord Rama. Therefore, why should you give up your worship of Lord Rama?" (In the image: Hanuman).

Shri Murari Gupta, a disciple of Shri Chandrashekhara Acharya, possessed extraordinary humility. He had an intimate lifelong relationship with Lord Chaitanya. Although senior in class, Murari would always lose in debates with Shri Nimai Pandit. During one heated argument they began pushing each other. The scuffle continued into the Ganges. They stirred up so much mud that ladies couldn't fill their pots and brahmanas couldn't bathe properly.

At the nightly kirtan in Shrivasa Angam Murari Gupta pleased Gaurahari with melodious chanting of the Bhagavata. He would also sing and dance expertly. Murari Gupta served Shri Chaitanya in all His Nadia lilas.

Lord Chaitanya once tested Murari Gupta's attachment to his worshipable Lord Ramachandra. Lord Gaurasundara preached to Murari a

Happiness is fleeting. I hate when people ask "are you happy" because it is ephemeral. Better to be content. Am I content? Not always, but I am working on it. I judge a religion by its followers. Srila Prabhupada's REAL disciples all work to make the world better in some way, to lift up the fallen, to spread that ephemeral happiness by sankirtana. Some of my fondest memories are sankirtana. Our religion is about IMPROVING ourselves. We will never be perfect in the material world. That is why we try to fix our mind on Krishna, to get to the spiritual world where we CAN be perfect, and happiness is NOT ephemeral. So, improve, be content, because God owns EVERYTHING. What you have is a gift. treasure it, and pass it along. I guess, I remember a lot of homeless in the temple on feast days. Who later became devotees. I honestly cannot see that happening today. And I am thinking of the middle "80s, even AFTER Srila Prabhupada's death. This outreach, however wa

Dear Readers and Friends,

Hare Krishna.

I'm writing to inform you that I'll be taking some time off from posting new material on this website and also from engaging in too much e-mail correspondence for the time being. I'm now facing some difficult health and financial challenges in my life which must be finally addressed.

In addition, I just discovered that although The Prabhupada Connection looks fine on my personal computer, the pages are crooked, misaligned, uncentered and overlapping on newer models with updated operating systems and browsers. So all 3,500 plus pages have to be methodically fixed and republished -- a laborious and time-consuming job.

As you may know, this website is nearing completion of its 14th year online. For the most part, I've tried to post something new on these pages almost every day. Because my computer is very slow -- and because I'm getting slower too in my advancing years -- the regular postings have now become quite a chore. As I still harbor

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati;

"Do not try to discover the nature of truth by the exercise of your imagination. Do not endeavor to attain the truth through experience of this world. Do not manufacture truth in order to satisfy your erring inclinations, or hastily accept anything for the reason that it satisfies such inclinations. Do not regard as truth anything that has been “built up” or has the support of a majority of people like yourself, nor as untruth anything that is rejected by the overwhelming majority. According to the scriptures there will be found hardly one in a crore of human beings who really worships the truth. What is proclaimed by the united voices of all the people of this world as truth may turn out to be false. Therefore, cease to confront the truth in a challenging mood. The truth is not brought into existence by such arrogance. One has to approach the truth in the spirit of absolute submission. It is necessary to listen to truth. Truth is self-revealing, and

Krishnadasa Kaviraja Goswami

Krishnadasa Kaviraja Goswami.

Shri Krishna dasa Kaviraja Goswami was born in a Nadiya family of physicians at the village of Jhamatpur, within the district of Barddhaman, near Naihati. His father was Shri Bhagiratha, and his mother was Shri Sunanda. He had a younger brother named Shyama das. The Deity of Gaura-Nityananda installed by Shri Kaviraja Goswami is still being worshiped there. It appears that his family line is no more. More information about the early life of Shri Kaviraja is available in a book called Ananda-ratnavali. In Chaitanya charitamrta, Adi-lila chapter five, Shri Kaviraja relates the cause of his leaving family life:

Lord Nityananda Prabhu had a servant named Shri Minaketana Ramadasa, who was a reservoir of love. At my house there was sankirtana day and night, and therefore he visited there, having been invited. Absorbed in emotional love, he sat in my courtyard, and all the Vaishnavas bowed down at his feet. In a joyful mood of love of God he sometimes climbed

RaghunathaBhattaGoswami300h225w.jpg

Raghunatha Bhatta Goswami (1505-1579) is one of the six Goswamis of Vrindavana, leading disciples ofChaitanya Mahaprabhu. Raghunatha Bhatta's father, Tapana Mishra, was also a prominent follower of Lord Chaitanya. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu asked Raghunath Bhatta to go to Vrindavan and constantly chant the Hare Krishna mantra and read Srimad-Bhagavatam.

Every day, Raghunath Bhatta would sing the verses of the Bhagavatam to the Vrindavan residents, and his tears of spiritual emotion would wet the pages of the Bhagavatam as he sang. Raghunatha Bhatta Goswami never criticized anyone. He believed that all Vaishnavas are sincerely servingKrishna according to their realization and therefore one should overlook their faults. Under his inspiration, a wealthy disciple built the temple for the Radha-Govinda Deities in Vrindavan.

raghunath.jpg

Sri Raghunatha dasa took his birth in the village of Sri Krsnapura in the district of Hooghly. His father's name was Sri Govardhana, whose elder brother was Sri Hiranya dasa. Both of them were respectable wealthy land-holders belonging to the Kayastha caste. Their title, which was given by the King, was "Majumdar" and their yearly income was two million.

In his childhood Sri Raghunatha dasa studied at the house of the priest, Acarya Sri Balarama dasa. Haridasa Thakura was very merciful to Balarama dasa and occasionally visited his house. At these times Raghunatha dasa had the good fortune of relishing Thakura Haridasa's association and listened to philosophical discourses from him.

Sri Raghunatha dasa was the only son in the family of Hiranya and Govardhana and there was no limit to the care and affection which was showered upon him. Though he was brought up just like the son of a king, by the powerful influence of saintly devotees, he realized at a very young age that material existence

Moldy John McCormick's video.

Ok friends it is time for an inside story. The year was 1972. I had been living i the ashrams of my guru His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada for the previous four years as a monk.in training. At that time another monk named Sudam Goswami and I drove from LA to Toronto to visit the ashram there.on some temple business. I was teaching Sudam our guru's sacred teachings on the road trip and in the process taught him our guru's teaching that all human beings are serving , even though they aren't all conscious that the ultimate act of service is to dedicate all service directly to Bhagavan Sri Radha Krishna. "That is the final and ultimate principle of Bhakti as a Yoga", I quoted from our guru's teachings of the Vedas, "You've gotta serve somebody." Sudam was from a Hollywood show business family and one of our reasons for going to Toronto was so he could meet with a friend who was in Toronto giving a concert. Thus it was that the next day h

Srila Madhvacarya Appearance

Madhvacharya

"One should have complete faith in the transcendental literature such as Shrimad Bhagavatam and other literatures that directly glorifies the Supreme Personality of Godhead. One should also have faith in Vaishnava Tantra, the original Vedas, and Mahabharata which includes Bhagavad Gita, and which is considered the fifth Veda. The Vedic knowledge originally emanated from the breathing of Lord Visnu, and the Vedic literature has been compiled in a literary form by Shrila Vyasadeva, the incarnation of Vishnu. Therefore Vishnu should be understood to be the personal speaker of all this Vedic literature." (In the image: Incarnation of Vayu and Hanuman Shrila Madhvacharya).

Madhvacharya was born Vasudev, son of Narayan Bhatt and Vedavati in the village of Padakakshetra, near Udupi usually taken as being 1238 AD., on the Vijay Dasami of Lord Rama. After  79 years of wonderful pastimes he passed on to be with his Lord, Shrila Vyasadev in the year 1317 AD.

Bhagavad Gita As It Is Original 1972 by Srila Prabhupada

Hare Krishna Gita Chapter 18 TEXT 36-37;

O best of the Bhāratas, now please hear from Me about the three kinds of happiness which the conditioned soul enjoys, and by which he sometimes comes to the end of all distress. That which in the beginning may be just like poison but at the end is just like nectar and which awakens one to self-realization is said to be happiness in the mode of goodness.

PURPORT

A conditioned soul tries to enjoy material happiness again and again. Thus he chews the chewed, but, sometimes, in the course of such enjoyment, he becomes relieved from material entanglement by association with a great soul. In other words, a conditioned soul is always engaged in some type of sense gratification, but when he understands by good association that it is only a repetition of the same thing, and he is awakened to his real Kṛṣṇa consciousness, he is sometimes relieved from such repetitive so-cal
