"Joining the Hare Krsna Movement" by GPD

I got my first Krsna Book from Sura Prabhu in a parking lot in Seattle. He showed me what George Harrison wrote and that made me take the book. I gave him $20 and he also gave me the Sri Isopanisad. When I saw the picture of Lord Visnu on the cover I remembered a dream I had about that same Lord Visnu with lots of incense smoke swirling around Him. I told Sura about that and he said that means I was meant to be a devotee.

I took the book home and started to read it but I stopped because I thought it was too philosophical. A few months later I couldn't sleep and I started staring at the picture of Sri Sri Radha and Krsna on the cover of the Krsna Book. After about twenty minutes of staring, wondering why Krsna was blue, not even knowing that Krsna is God, all of the sudden Krsna came to life to me flashing His effulgence and smiling. That got me very excited! So I started reading the book and read about a

Sri Prathyangira

sri-maha-pratyangira-devi-mantras-650.jpg

To establish dharma, save pious people from the clutches of demons / ill minded people, Sriman Narayana manifested into several avatars and Sri Narasimha Avatar is one among them; most of us knew that Narasimha had killed Hiranyakasyapu, the demon king and blessed Prahlada his great devotee; due to His furious nature as Narasimha, no one could control his anger, Brahma and other mini gods were afraid of his rage.

Brahma, accompanied by other mini gods, approached Siva and described the Narasimha Avatar. Siva took it lightly and said this is a tiny issue and he can sort it out with ease in no time; he instructed Vinayaka to subdue Narasimha; when Vinayaka approached Narasimha, Narasimha severely warned and drove him away; Nandi, Aghora Veerabhadra were sent to subdue Narasimha, one after the other, after Vinayaka failed in his attempts, Nandi, Aghora Veerabhadra were severely attacked by Narasimha and they reported severity of their experience to Siva; ego and arrogance entered Siva’s mi

Namaḥ

by Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda

(Portrait of Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura Prabhupāda)

Question 1: What is the meaning of the word namaḥ in our mantras?

Answer: The word namaḥ means to renounce one’s pride, or independence, and bow down in heartfelt surrender. “O Gurudeva! O Kṛṣṇa! From today, I am Your servant and You are my only shelter. Please be merciful to me and guide me; engage me in Your service. From today onward I have renounced my pride and my ahaṅkāra – my false, egoistic conception that I am the active agent. My only prayer is that from now on Your instructions, and Your advice and direction be my only focus – the Pole Star and governing element of my life.”

Namaskāra’ means to renounce all material ego, all pride in our delusion that ‘I am the active agent’, ‘I am the enjoyer’, ‘I am the seer’, ‘I am the maintainer’. When the corruption of our intelligence – the misconception that ‘I am the active agent’ – is finally removed by the mercy of Śrīla Gurudeva, then alone do we attain true dīkṣā, or

What Love Is

9468758695?profile=original

Prabhupada: ...I spoke in Hindi. Now today I speak in English. If required I shall again speak in Hindi tomorrow. In this way, alternatively...

So we are worshiping Krsna. His simple business is, as we have described, Radha-Madhava, He is lover of Srimati Radharani. Krsna means lover. This very word Krsna means "all-attractive." You can attract by your love, not by anything else. Therefore His name is Krsna. I have read one book, Aquarian Gospel, among the Christians. In that book it is said that the word Christ has come from the word Christo, Christo, it is a Greek word, and the meaning of Christo is "lover, anointed." So I think the word Christ is apabhramsa of Christo, and Christo... In India still, if one's name is Krsna, we call him Kristo, or sometimes Kesto. My younger brother, his name was Krsna. So in family we were calling him "Kesto." That is very current. So actually love, the word love, has come from Krsna. That is a fact. The

Talks with Srila Prabhupada

Svarūpa Dāmodara: They are making experiments on rats now.
Prabhupāda: That's all right. They will go on experimenting life after life. That is their foolishness.
Gurukṛpā: Next life they may have to experiment in a dog's body.
Prabhupāda: Yes. And some of our politicians, he has become a dog. Yes. Nehru. He has become a dog, in Stockholm. Yes.
Gopāla Kṛṣṇa: I told that to my mother and she would not believe it. You know, people think that if someone is a great politician or something, he can never become something like this.
Prabhupāda: Then why the politician dies? If he has got so good brain, let him live forever.
Gopāla Kṛṣṇa: People have so much blind faith in people like Nehru and Gandhi.
Prabhupāda: Jawaharlal Nehru did not want to give up his Prime Ministership unless he was collapsed. So why he did not live if he is so intelligent? And Kṛṣṇa says, if you have to believe Bhagavad-gītā, tathā dehāntara-prāptiḥ [Bg. 2.13]. "He has to accept another body." So why you should disbelieve th

Bhugarbha Goswami, along with his Godbrother Lokanatha Goswami, located lost sacred places in Vrindavan by the order of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. To avoid material distractions, Bhugarbha Goswami would perform his worship to Krishna in a cave. Because of this, he received the name Bhugarabha (bhu means "earth," garbha means "cave" or "hidden place").

Kasisvara Pandit served as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's bodyguard in Jagannatha Puri. Another of his services was to distribute prasadam after kirtan.

Bhugarbha Goswami's samadhi (shrine)is in the courtyard of the Radha-Damodara temple in Vrindavan, India, and Kasisvara Pandita's Deity of Gaura-Govinda.

Utpanna Ekadasi?, Dec 10, 2012

9468750272?profile=original

Suta Goswami said, "O learned brahmanas, long ago Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, explained the auspicious glories of Sri Ekadasi and the rules and regulations governing each observance of fasting on that holy day. O best of the brahmins, whosoever hears about the origins and glories of these sacred fasts on the Ekadasi days goes directly to the abode of Lord Vishnu after enjoying many different kinds of happiness in this material world.

9468750898?profile=original "Arjuna, the son of Prithaa, asked the Lord, 'O Janardana, what are the pious benefits of complete fasting, eating only supper, or eating but once at midday on Ekadasi, and what are the regulations for observing the various Ekadasi days? Kindly narrate all this to me'.

Sri Gadadhara dasa Goswami

Gadadhara-Pandit-9-283x300.jpg

Sri Gadadhara dasa Thakura previously lived at Navadwip. When the Lord went to live at Nilacala Sri Dasa Gadadhara also there to be with Him. Later on Mahaprabhu sent him back with Nityananda Prabhu to preach in Bengal. He first stayed at Eriyadahagram, which is situated on the banks of the Ganges. Then he spent some time in Navadwipa, taking care of Saci Mata and Visnupriya, but after their disappearance he came to live at Katwa, where Mahaprabhu had accepted sannyasa from Kesava Bharati.

He was a very confidential associate of Sri Sri Gaura-Nityananda. In Gaura-ganoddesa-dipika it is stated that he is an incarnation of the effulgence of Srimati Radharani's body, as well as an expansion of Purnananda gopi. Though he was one of the associates of Nityananda Prabhu, the majority of whom were cowherd boys and thus situated in the mellow of friendship, he was always absorbed in the mood of a gopi.

Once, as he was carrying a pot of Ganges water on his head, he called loudly, "Who wants to buy

The Disappearance Day of Sri Gadadhar das, Srinivas Acarya, and Dhananjaya Pandit is observed on November 20th.

Gadadhar das Goswami

She who during Krishna’s incarnation was Candrakanti, the manifestation of Radharani’s opulence, has become Gadadhara Das by Gauranga’s side. Balaram’s beloved Purnananda has also entered into him for some special purpose..
(Gaura-ganoddesha-dipika 154-155)

Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Thakur has made the following comments on Gadadhara Das’s identity in Krishna lila: “He is Srimati Radharani’s effulgence. Just as Srila Gadadhara Pandit Goswami is Srimati Radharani herself, so Gadadhara Das is an incarnation of her bodily luster. In the Lord’s incarnation as Krishna with the emotions and bodily luster of Srimati Radharani, he is that bodily luster. In t

Govardhana Annakuta

Tridandisvami Sri Srimad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja

May 18, 2003

[This year, 2012, Govardhana Annakuta festival is on November 14th.In honor of the Annakuta festival, please accept the following class that Srila Gurudeva, Srila Narayana Gosvami Maharaja gave in Badger, California, in 2003:]

krsna lifting govardhanaToday, Annakuta Mohotsava, is a very auspicious day. This day is observed in India during the month of Kartika. Many of Krsna's other sweet pastimes were also performed in the month of Kartika. In this month, under the guidance of Nanda Baba, the Vrajavasis observed Govardhana puja. They did this, having given up the puja of Indradeva, and that resulted in Krsna lifting Govardhana Hill on His little finger. Yasoda-devi bound Krsna in this very month, which is how the song Sri Damodarastakam originated. Kartika is also the month in which Krsna and the gopis performed Saradiya Rasa (Autumn rasa-lila).
