Vaikuntha Ekadashi - Most celebrated of festivals in temples of South India

Ekadashi, the 11th day of the waxing or waning moon is considered as one of the important days by all devotees of Krishna. Lord Krishna is very pleased with one who fasts on this day. In general, the devotees fast completely on this day and many do not drink even a drop of water. This austerity is taken up by devotees of the Lord to please Him. Acharyas - great spiritual teachers have recommended that if one is unable observe a complete fast he should at least fast from grains and partake only fruits, milk and root preparations on every Ekadashi. It is said that by fasting on this day and remembering the pastimes of Lord Krishna, all of one’s sins are eradicated and one is purified..

The month of Margasirsha (Dec-Jan) also known as Dhanur Masa is of great importance to the devotees of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna says in the Bhagavad-gita – ‘masanam margasirso ham’ - of the months, I am Margasirsa. The Ekadashi

Some relevant quotes on chanting, Srila Prabhupada

The words "Hare Kṛṣṇa" should be very distinctly pronounced and heard. Sometimes one mechanically produces a hissing sound instead of chanting with the proper pronunciation with the help of the lips and tongue.
If you are not spiritually advanced, this chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra also will not appeal. It will be happening mechanically. But by chanting you will gradually advance, then you will understand that this Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is not different from Kṛṣṇa.
Kṛṣṇa and Kṛṣṇa's name are not different. Identical. So when we chant Kṛṣṇa's name it means that we are directly associating with Kṛṣṇa.
While you chant, you hear also. You don't turn your attention to anything else, mechanically chanting and thinking of something.
We being part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa, our natural tendency is to serve Kṛṣṇa. Natural tendency. It is not artificial. When you forget Kṛṣṇa, that is artificial. So our normal life means to love Kṛṣṇa, to serve Kṛṣṇa. That is ou

Shrila Prabhupada’s Grim Predictions for Kali Yuga:

Millions Will Be Unemployed

Shriman Siddhanta Das Prabhu’s “Memories” series (itvproductions.org) remains one of our all-time favorite mediums of understanding the many facets of the pure devotee. Through his interviews, we obtain glimpses of the Perfect Spiritual Master as reflected by each of the unique disciples. Siddhanta’s most recent DVD, number 50, contains an inspiring

conversation with a devotee called Rameshwara Das. In his talk, Rameshwara Das recounts a discussion with Prabhupada regarding the future of the world, one to which we are now bearing witness. This prophetic conversation advocating devotee self-sufficiency took place during a train ride to Prayag, in January of 1977. As you read these stunning predictions, bear in mind that, although the Acharya had been instructing us about the importance of Krishna conscious farm projects since New Vrindavana had been acquired in 1969, at the time of this conversation Divin

He lives forever... from Rasa Manjari DD (ACBSP)

„He lives forever by His Divine Instructions and the follower lives with Him."

mukam karoti vacalam

"By the mercy of the Guru even a dumb man can become a great speaker, and even a lame man can cross mountains."

"All my disciples will take the legacy. If you want, you can also take it. Sacrifice everything. I, one, may soon pass away. But they are hundreds, and this movement will increase. It is not that I give an order, 'Here is the next leader.' Anyone who follows the previous leadership is the leader.... All of my disciples are leaders, as much as they follow purely. If you want to follow, you can also lead. But you don't want to follow. Leader means one who is a first class disciple. Evam param parapraptam. One who is following is perfect."

Now Those are beads!

Remember Crocodile Dundee, "You call that a Knoife, mate?"

I was in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 1998, Security Forces Hospital, Malaaz Siteen Street, practising audiology, third best hospital in Riyadh, maybe top ten in the kingdom. We often had time to sit and chant, or sometimes smoke cigarettes and drink tea or coffee. I mostly did not join in with this, but joked or chanted, sometimes some tiny cups of sweetened cardamon flavored tea and dates...

The other audiologists and earnosethroat surgeons were sipping tea and smoking in our lounge. Two were chanting quietly on their hand-sized strings of Arab plastic prayer beads. That day, for fun, instead of my own Muslim style small set of thirty-three beads , I had brought my Vaisnava set of shiny well-used 108 wooden hand-finished Tulsi japa-mala beads. It was quite massive.

Before I go on, you should know that they are very religious in Saudia, and admire people who chant strands of as many as 66 or even 99 beads in length for rosar

Canto 6: Prescribed Duties for Mankind Chapter 3: Yamarāja Instructs His Messengers

Bhaktivedanta VedaBase: Śrīmad Bhāgavatam

SB 6.3 Summary

SB 6.3.1: King Parīkṣit said: O my lord, O Śukadeva Gosvāmī, Yamarāja is the controller of all living entities in terms of their religious and irreligious activities, but his order had been foiled. When his servants, the Yamadūtas, informed him of their defeat by the Viṣṇudūtas, who had stopped them from arresting Ajāmila, what did he reply?

SB 6.3.2: O great sage, never before has it been heard anywhere that an order from Yamarāja has been baffled. Therefore I think that people will have doubts about this that no one but you can eradicate. Since that is my firm conviction, kindly explain the reasons for these events.

SB 6.3.3: Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmī replied: My dear King, when the order carriers of Yamarāja were baffled and defeated by the order carriers of Viṣṇu, they approached their master, the controller of Saḿyamanī-purī and master o

Sri Gaura Kunda

Sri sri guru gaurangau jayatah!

3 October 2010. Govardhan. It is said that when the water level of Sri Radha Kund and Sri Syama Kund rise so high that both kundas overflow and combine together as one, then Sri Gaura Kunda becomes manifest. This week, we are very fortunate that such rare occasion has occurred and everyone now has the chance to get the darshan of Sri Gaura Kunda here in Govardhan.

Since last month, water level of the different kundas in Vraja has been rising up. Usually most kundas in Vraja are either half-filled if not dried up. However, at this time of the year, we see how they are becoming full and some of them overflowing. Manasi Ganga in the middle of Govardhan was dried empty just a few months ago. Now it is flooding the Mukharavinda Temple (see pictures). Sankarshan Kunda overflowed to the parikrama road while Govi

Flood of Blood ; Patita Pavana das Adhikary

SONG OF PROPHECY” DEPARTMENT: Get out your guitars, Prabhus. This is for those of us who agree that letting the karmis know truthfully what they are in for is superior to an agreeable grin and compromising interfaith handshake. The tune that might come to mind could resemble something akin to CCR’s “Who’ll Stop the Rain?”

Flood of Blood

Patita Pavana das Adhikary

Here’s a message for you karmis,

Listen to me and weep,

Utopia will come crashing down,

What you planted you shall reap.

These are not times for songs of love,

Or how your sweetheart made you cry,

These are times when you must save yourself,

Time for action, do or die.

Can you hear the winds a-howlin’,

Whistling from o’er the hills,

Meteor showers scribe your fate,

You will die for what you’ve killed.

Back in 1939

When the Nazis were in power,

War was on the red horizon,

It was a fateful hour.

History repeats itself, my friend

Just have a look around;

Cameras watch you on every street,

FEMA camps outside the town.

Test of Initiation

His Divine Grace A. C.

Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

To actually be engaged in service, to be officially

initiated and having taken up the service of the Lord,

is the stage called bhajana-kriyä. And bhajana-kriyä

results in anartha-nivåtti. At anartha-nivåtti stage,

all anarthas, all rascal habits — illicit sex, intoxication,

meat-eating, and gambling — will be no more.

That is the test whether you are actually initiated.

If you do not detest all these nonsense habits

then you must know that you are not making any

progress. Because anartha-nivåtti is the result of

bhajana-kriyä. Anartha-nivåttiù syät — if you are

actually making advancement in bhajana-kriyä

then these attachments will be finished. Paraà

By appreciating the better condition of life, one

rejects all this nonsense. That is advancement.

Then niñöhä, firm faith, develops. Then comes

Biography.

His Divine Grace Om Vishnupada Sri Srimad Gaura Govinda Swami Maharaja made his appearance on September 2nd 1929, in the village of Jagannatha-pura, not far from Jagannatha-puri Dhama, Orissa, India. Sri Braja-bandhu, as His Divine Grace was then known, grew up in the village of Gadai-giri, where he practiced devotional service to Krishna from his early childhood. His grandfather was a paramahamsa, whose only business was to chant Hare Krishna and cry before the Deity of Krishna, known locally as Gopal Jiu. He taught Braja-bandhu how to count by chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra on his fingers.

In his childhood Braja-bandhu would travel with his uncles from village to village chanting Hare Krishna and singing the songs of Narottama das Thakura. In Praise of Lord Krishna

Lord Narayana is All Powerful ! The very air and ether vibrate with the solidity of His almighty Power! His walk is like pounding thunder at the hearts of his enemies. The demons flee in incredible fear before Him.

None can match even a speck of His Forms of unlimited eternal-truth-knowledge,satcidananda vigraha, ie pure spiritual infinite Being, fully originally Personal and the originating source of all and all "things". In reality He has no beggining nor end, nor do we His sparks, as Lord Krsna in Gita informs us "Never was there a time when I did not, exist, nor you..."

He is the Supreme Controller, the Sanction giver. He is the the Benefactor and Well-wisher of all His children, equally. Not a dust mote moves without His authority, as He is the sarva karana karanam, the cause of all causes; the energizing principle and the energy , the action, the object of action, and the seer of all these in full. He is the initial movement of all movements, the Supreme Controller and Enjoye

You're Just Envious Because We Have All The Power
And You Have Nothing",

said one of the GBCs to me.
By The Watchdog staff
June 21, 2010

The following is a Watchdog interview with one of the senior devotees of ISKCON, Guru Kripa prabhu. He became the 12th GBC chosen by Srila Prabhupada, and is also one of few individuals Srila Prabhupada named as the "executor" of his last will. He is also famous for being responsible for seeing to the major portion of the collecting that built the Krishna Balaram Mandir in Vrindavan.

WD: Guru Kripa, how did you join ISKCON?
GK: I had just returned from the Vietnam war in January of 1970. I was a medic in the Army. I met the devotees in San Francisco in April of the same year and joined their store front temple on Fredrick St one week later. Jayananda was the first devotee I had met. He was at the door collecting 75 cents from the hippies for the Sunday feast. I had already shaved up the week before and went to Madhuvisa, the temple president, saying, "who

"I have come to know the essence of love between Srimati Radharani and Sri Krsna. Now I wish to hear something about Their transcendental pastimes."

Continuation:Constant remembrance of the name, fame, and qualities of Sri Krsna are the earrings decorating Her body. The glories of Sri Krsna’s name, fame, and qualities are always inundating Her speech. She keeps Sri Krsna enlivened by the celestial drink of the incessant chanting of His qualities. In short, She is the reservoir of pure love of Krsna and She is full and complete with all the necessary qualifications in this regard. She is the perfect symbolic representation of pure love of Godhead. This fact is described in the Govinda-lilamrta (11.122) in the form of questions and answers:
