Learning, with Lunch | Akshaya Patra

Learning, with Lunch | Akshaya Patra

April 22, 2011

Rasheeda Bhagat | The Hindu Business Line | April 23 2011 — Akshaya Patra meals, served to nearly 13 lakh school children in seven States, are an incentive to come to class and stay on course.

There are several heart-warming features about the Akshaya Patra scheme that brings fresh, hot, nutritious meals to the doorstep of nearly 13 lakh schoolchildren across seven States in India. But for me, the biggest one is that it has reduced dropouts in general, and more important, arrested the tendency of parents to pull out girls from school ahead of boys.

In Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh, the massive kitchen located within the 100-acre campus housing an impressive ISKCON temple cooks meals for 1.69 lakh children, and 89,631 of these, or 53 per cent, are girls, says Suvyakta Narasimha Das, Unit President of the Akshaya Patra Foundation (APF).

This story was heard in Mayapura in 1980. A man came to the ISKCON’s Caitanya Candrodoya Mandira carrying with him a copy of the Back of Godhead article about Srila Prabhupada, entitled A Lifetime in Preparation.

“Just recently an amazing realization occurred to me that I wanted to share with devotees everywhere. I have been the pujari and sevaite at the house of Adwaita Acarya for many years. I was also there back in the 1940’s and 50’s. At that time, I noticed that one grhasta Bengali devotee used to come to the temple quite regularly. He was dressed in a white khadidhoti and kurta and he always came alone. He would sit in the back of the Mandira without speaking, and would chant harinama on his mala very quietly and deeply. I noticed that he came on the weekends, usually once every month or two in regular way. After chanting there for many hours, he would always thank me when he left. His presence was profound and I became attracted to him. Since his devotions were solitary, I ne

The Serpent Kaliya – The Hidden Meaning

The Serpent Kaliya – The Hidden Meaning

By HDG Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, published in Sree Sajjanatoshani (The Harmonist), May 1932.

There is a beautiful lake of very sweet water in the Yamuna, which bears the name of Kaliya. This lake happened to be infested by a most venomous Serpent from whom the lake derives its name. On a certain day while the cowboys of Braja were out pasturing their calves on the wooded banks of the Yamuna they happened to feel thirsty and not knowing that the water of the lake had been poisoned by Kaliya drank of its water which resulted in their instantaneous death. On being apprised of their plight Krishna came to the spot and restored them to life.

Thereafter Krishna goes down into the lake with the intention of sporting in its water. This enraged the hideous monster who forthwith came out of the depths of the lake in the company of his adherents and fell upon Krishna coiling Him up in their great hoods for Kaliya was a thousand

prabhupadanugas eu

This discussion is a warning about the Prabhupadanugas EU website, which promotes misinformation about this site's members' moderate aims and purposes, and meanwhile promotes fanatical hard-ritvik abuses of Gour Govinda Swami, and all other or future pure devotees.

I request our members to please note this, and to support our own site and not get involved in any way shape or fashion with those who blaspheme pure devotees now and far into the future, by saying there will never be another pure devotee, or that those of recent advent are bogus, (such as HDG Gour Govinda Swami). They are mostly hard-ritivk fanatics, temporary reactionaries of the times we inhabit. The GPCs blaspheme Prabhupada directly, and the hard ritviks blaspheme the other pure devotees. These are both instances of Vaisnava aparadha, which we should scrupulously try to avoid, while simultaneously revealing the deviants if and when it is our necessary practical duty to do so.

Self-serving Autobiography of a Devotee ; ) +HK+ Gour Govinda relevant

I have always had an interest in God and finding Truth, being raised a protestant Christian. I was much interested in astronomy in my early years, but along came the sixties and all that that entailed in Canada. Shamanic journeys, experiments with Buddhism, and then taking up vegetarianism, and tons of reading in spiritist and pop-yoga literature later, I asked God to please reveal to me His Name, and then I would consider all my prayers and life fulfilled ! During a psychedelic journey, I realized I am not the body, that there was indeed an active chakra system, that life was meaningful although this world was full of flaws.

Soon, I met the Toronto Blue bus TSKP devotees; Balakrsna, Drupada, and Ayodhypati prabhus performing Harinama kirtana in my home city, and I got that Name, bought a Gita for $5. from them, and immediately decided to join, but I was told I was too

Initiation Requirements

9468733291?profile=original

Dear Members; there has been some misundertsanding recently about the initiation process via this website. I have not made it clear enough to date to the members in general, having only vaguely considered that such serious persons would join us. But we are finding that there is actually some interest. So here is the process; Candidates must announce their intent, and follow strictly the 4 regulative principles, and reach the point of chanting 16 rounds per day, for six months to a year, then they may apply for consideration of recommendation to Srila Prabhupada. There will then be up to a six month waiting period. Some books must be distributed, mantras memorized, daksina given, oath signed and original duplicate copy returned, and a fire sacrifice performed , then only a new Name is given, neck beads are to be worn, and one is only then now duly initiated as Srila Prabhupada's disciple. Thank you! Applications may be stated to the site creator or to any brahmana onsite willing to a

Agni purana: Benefit Of Opening A Temple

Agni purana: Benefit Of Opening A Temple

Agni said: I will now describe the fruits of making temples for the residence of Vasudeva and other deities.

He who attempts to erect temples for gods is freed from the sins of a thousand births.

Those who think of building a temple in their minds are freed from the sins of a hundred births.

Those who approve of a man’s building a temple for Krishna go to the region of Acyuta [Vishnu] freed from sins.

Having desired to build a temple for Hari, a man immediately takes millions of his generations, past and future, to the region of Vishnu.

The departed manes of the person who builds a temple for Krishna live in the region of Vishnu, well adorned and free from the sufferings of hell.

The construction of a temple for a deity dissipates even the sin of Brahminicide.

By building a temple one reaps the fruit which one does not even gain by celebrating a sacrifice.

By building a temple one acquires the fruits of bathing at all the sacred shrines.

The Story of Sita’s abduction by the demon Ravana
and the killing of Jatayu bird
Mahabharatha CHAPTER XXV

Before Ravana kidnapped Sita, he send his demoniac brother Marichi (a magician) to the hermitage of Sita-Rama, who lured away Rama and Laksmana in the form of a golden dear deep into the forest.

Maricha assumed the shape of a golden deer with silvern spots; its horns were tipped with sapphire and its eyes were like to blue lotus blooms. This beautiful animal of gentle seeming grazed below the trees until Sita beheld it with wondering eyes as she came forth to pluck wild flowers. She called to Rama, saying: “A deer of wondrous beauty is wandering through the grove. I long to rest at ease on its golden skin.”

Said Rama: “O Lakshmana, I must fulfil the desire of Sita. Tarry with her until I obtain this animal for her.”

So speaking, he lifted his bow and hastened away through the trees.

Lakshmana spoke to Sita and said: “My heart is full of misg

2. I offer my obeisances to Lalita devi, who has many wonderful qualities. Her face defeats the beauty of the ambrosial corona of the full moon, her eyes are like those of an alarmed deer and she is expert in the art of decorating Sri Radhika.

Rama-returns-to-Ayodhya_m.jpg

Ram Navami, or Ramanavami, is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Rama and it falls on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) in the month of Chaitra (March – April). In 2011, the date of Ram Navami is April 12. Ramanavami also marks the end of the Chaitra Navratri. Lord Rama is the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Rama Navami (Devanāgarī: राम नवमी) also known as Sri Rama Navami ( IAST SriRāma-navamī ). Sri Ram Navami is a great festival in India, celebrating the birth of Lord Rama to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya of Ayodhya. Rama is the 7th incarnation of the Dashavatara of Vishnu. The festival falls in the Shukla Paksha on the Navami, the ninth day of the month of Chaitra in the Hindu calendar. Thus it is also known as Chaitra Masa Suklapaksha Navami, and marks the end of the nine-day Chaitra-Navratri celebrations.

Harinam Diksha Ceremonies held in Srila Prabhupada’s temples
at Vrindavan, Bangalore, Chennai, Mysore and Hubli,

March 19th 2011
It was a very emotional and historic day for all followers of Srila Prabhupada, as hundreds of them formally accepted him as their diksha guru. The formal diksha ceremony was held in Hare Krishna centres of Bangalore, Mysore, Hubli, Vrindavan and Chennai. The respective Presidents of the temples conducted the harinam diksha and second initiation ceremonies.

bangalore-harinam-1.jpg

The ceremony consisted of each of the devotees taking an oath in front of Srila Prabhupada’s deities that they will follow the four regulative principles and chant at least sixteen rounds of Hare Krishna Maha Mantra daily. Following which each of them were given japa beads which were already chanted on by the GBC appointed rtviks and the temple presidents announced the initiated disciples’ names declar

M. Kurvanti DD;   So about a week ago Saturday, there was a workshop at the Trinity Alliance for the Healing Arts (TAHA).  I had joined this group of folks last fall, thinking "well i am the only devotte that i know of in town, so i will join them & then get them to join me."

Saturdays workshop was on Emotional Healing Techniques, & Pot Luck, HA lucky for me!!!  I made Aloo Mootar & a fancy rice, offered them at home, then off to TAHA.  when i arrived & handed over the Prasadam i requested i lead grace b4 meal.

We all gathered in a circle & i explained what we were going to do - a "call back" type of prayer,  they were all so intent on saying each and every word nicely SARIRA AVIDYA JA......... when i was done with sanskrit i read the translation of what they

Evening Darsana
by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
July 11, 1976, New York

Prabhupada: “I take away as death.” Whatever they are accumulating, everything will be taken away at the time of death. They are simply collecting, accumulating, discovering, forgetting that everything will be taken away at the time of death. Discover something which can check death, there will be no more death. That is real discovery. What do you think?

Indian man (1): It’s a question to think about.

Prabhupada: Because whatever we are discovering, it will be taken away by death. So discover something which will stop death. And that is real discovery.

Indian man (1): But don’t you think it will be a bad thing, because there are some bad people in the world, like Hitler and Stalin and others, they may be the first people to use the technology to prolong their life?

Prabhupada: The thing is, bad or good, everyone will be taken away by death. Is it not a fact? Hitler is no longer ex

A Meeting in Varanasi, By Sri Mathuresa Dasa

Seated around Lord Chaitanya at the brahmana's house, the Mayavadis were moved by His words. Their minds changed and they spoke pleasingly.

A Meeting in Varanasi | Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu points out Shankaracharya’s error in contradicting Vyasadeva

Conclusion

Early in the year 1514, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was staying at the home of Chandrasekara Vaidya in Varanasi, India, then a great center of learning. Lord Chaitanya’s associates heard that one of the chief scholars of Varanasi, a sannyasi named Prakashananda Sarasvati, was complaining to his followers that Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was a sentimenalist who engaged in chanting the names of the Lord rather than in studying Vedanta, the proper duty of a sannyasi.

Greatly disturbed by Prakashananda Sarasvati’s criticism, Sri Chaitanya’s associates were pleased when the Lord accepted an invitation for lunch at the home of the brahmana. Prakashananda Sarasvati and his followers would also be there, so Prakashananda Sa

Edythe Kreshower, 47, a twice-divorced housewife in Queens, N. Y., was appalled when her daughter Merylee suddenly decided five years ago to join the Hare Krishna sect. Merylee had been finishing her second year at Queens College and hoped to become a teacher. But she took the Hindu name of Murti Vanya, became a nun in the sect's New York City temple, donned a saffron sari and joined her fellow devotees in chanting in the streets.* Convinced that Merylee, 24, had been brainwashed, her mother hired a private detective, Galen Kelly, to rescue her.

Into a Van. Kelly, who had performed about 70 similar missions in the past, seized Merylee at a shopping center last Aug. 5, forced her into a van and took her to a motel. There he began the increasingly common ritual known as deprogramming, in which the convert to some strange-sounding, all-encompassing religion is subjected to threats and arguments until he gives up his new f

n the ‘Brahma Samhita’ fifth chapter there is a description of variegated planetary system even within the material world. And in the Bhagwat Geeta, such variegated planetary system in thousands and crores of material universes, are considered to be the one-fourth part of the complete energy of Godhead. The major three-fourth part of the Lord’s creative energy is manifested in the spiritual sky called by the name Paravyoma or the Vaikuntha Loka.

The explanation of the ‘Brahma Samhita’ is now confirmed by the material scientist as much as he (the material scientist) has admitted of the material world. We have discussed about the anti-material world in the last issue of ‘Back to Godhead’ (20-30-60) and in this article we shall try to give some idea of the variegated planetary system within the material universes.

Unity Means The End of Love

Unity Means The End of Love

In order for there to be love expressed, there must be at least two nodal individuals, two identities, two persons. Love involves exchanges. If the identity is merged in Oneness of the Supreme Brahman, Nirvana, there is no more love possible, as there is no more individuals.

In terms of spiritual psychology, entering the bramhajyoti, the undifferentiated spiritual status, it is like suicide. It is like burning down the house to avoid paying taxes. It is like sticking one's head in the spiritual sand. It is a type of fatalistic cowardism, obscurantism. It is denial of life, denial of love, denial of everything out of frustration due to dissatisfaction with the limited material sphere of activities and consciousness. It is the last trap of Maya.

We came to the material world to play at being ourselves the Supreme Being, and when that fails, we seek to end our identity. That
