The pious and saintly Yudhisthira Maharaj said, "Oh Lord, You have so nicely explained to us the wonderful glories of the Saphalaa Ekaadasi, which occurs during the dark fortnight (Krishna paksha) of the month of Pausha (December - January). Now please be merciful to me and explain to me the details of the Ekaadasi that occurs in the light fortnight (Shukla or Gaura paksha) of this month. What is its name, and what Deity is to be worshipped on that sacred day? Oh Purushottama, Oh Hrishikesha, please also tell me how You can be pleased on this day?

Cauliflower and Tofu Pakora Batter

Fry pakoras at medium heat always, and pre-cook cauliflower pieces by steaming for a couple minutes. Tofu may be cut in strips. The spelt, an "old world grain", flour has the qualtiy of stickiness, adhesiveness, try it!  White or Whole wheat flower may be substiuted, not quite as good. Spelt is an Excellent pakora batter additive. This recipe suits half a large-medium cauliflower, or 1/4 a large one, plus 1/2 cup extra-firm tofu cut into stips= equals protein. Offer to Srila Prabhupada with the tamarind chutney, water, salt, flower, and rice. Brahmanas may also offer through succession, to Radha Krishna; don't forget the Tulsi  leaves!

Compassion Lost By Reckless Consumption of Innocent Animals
Pride is the antithesis of compassion, which begins with non-violence. Ahimsa (Non-Violence) is at the core of Lord Buddha’s teachings, which explains why serious Buddhists are strict vegetarians. However in today’s world, particularly in the Western hemisphere, there are all sorts of people who claim to follow the teachings of Lord Buddha who aren’t even Vegetarians! The following is a Watchdog interview with one of the senior devotees of ISKCON, Guru Kripa prabhu. He became the 12th GBC chosen by Srila Prabhupada, and is also one of few individuals Srila Prabhupada named as the "executor" of his last will. He is also famous for being responsible for seeing to the major portion of the collecting that built the Krishna Balaram Mandir in Vrindavan.

WD: Guru Kripa, how did you join ISKCON?

GK: I had just returned from the Vietnam war in January of 1970. I was a medic in the Army. I met the devotees in San Francisco in April of the same year and joined their store front temple on Fredrick St one week later. Jayananda was the first devotee I had met. He was at the door collecting 75 cents from the hippies for the Sunday feast. I had already shaved up the week before and went to Madhuvisa, the temple president, saying

"All my disciples will take the legacy. If you want, you can also take it. Sacrifice everything. I, one, may soon pass away. But they are hundreds, and this movement will increase. It is not that I give an order, 'Here is the next leader.' Anyone who follows the previous leadership is the leader.... All of my disciples are leaders, as much as they follow purely. If you want to follow, you can also lead. But you don't want to follow. Leader means one who is a first class disciple. Evam param parapraptam. One who is following is perfect."

According to the Gaura-ganoddesa-dipika (195), Srila Jiva Goswami was Vilasa Manjari in his previous incarnation in Vraja. In verse 203 of the same book, it is stated that he was the son of Vallabha and a scholar of exemplary character (susilah panditah sriman jivah sri-vallabhatmajah). According to the Gaudiya Vaishnava Abhidhana, Jiva was present in this world from 1433 to 1518 of the Saka era (1511-1596). Other sources propose that Jiva’s dates are from 1533 to 1618.

Srila Jiva Goswami appeared in the village of Ramakeli in the district of Maldah as the son of Anupama Mallik (Vallabha) who had made his residence there in order to serve in the government. The name of Jiva’s mother is not known. Narahari Chakravarti has given Jiva’s genealogy going back seven generations.
