chanting (10)
TRANSLATION: The loud sound of the chanting of the Hare Krsna mantra certainly made the Kazi very much afraid, and he hid himself within his room. Hearing the people thus protesting, murmuring in great anger, the Kazi would not come out of his home.
PURPORT: The Kazi’s order not to perform sankirtana could stand only as long as there was no CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE. Under the leadership of the Supreme Lord, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the chanters, increasing in number, disobeyed the order of the Kazi. Thousands assembled together and formed parties, CHANTING THE HARE KRSNA MAHA-MANTRA and MAKING A TUMULTUOUS SOUND OF PROTEST. Thus the Kazi was very much afraid, as naturally one should be under such circumstances.
In the present day also, PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD MAY JOIN TOGETHER IN THE KRSNA CONSCIOUSNESS MOVEMENT and PROTEST AGAINST THE PRESENT DEGRADED GOVERNMENTS of the world’s godless societies, which are based on all kinds of sinful activities. Srimad-Bhagavatam states that in the Age

The importance of chanting
Once Srila Prabhupada asked a few devotees who were with him, “Why do you think I wrote all these books?”
Devotees gave different reasons. Someone said, “You wrote these books to tell us about the philosophy of Krishna, philosophy of Gita.”
Prabhupada said, “No.”
Someone else said, “Prabhupada, you wanted to teach us about bhakti.”
Prabhupada said, “No.”
Like this, the devotees were giving so many different reasons.
Somehow Prabhupada was not satisfied.
He said, *I wrote all these books to convince you to chant Hare Krishna Mahamantra*
Chanting the Hare Krishna mantra is so important. The Lord’s avatar in this Yuga is in the form of the holy name. Srila Prabhupada wanted us to chant the holy name.
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
The holy name, character, pastimes and activities of Krishna are all transcendentally sweet like sugar candy. Although the tongue of one affiicted by the jaundice of avidya [ignorance] cannot taste anything sweet, it is wonderful that simply by carefully chanting these sweet names every day, a natural relish awakens within his tongue, and his disease is gradually destroyed at the root." Srimad Bhagavatam 12.3.51in Mayapur on 17-02-2018. Kali-yuga is an ocean of faults but there is a great benediction given to the people of this age: the congregational chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord. There is no way to overestimate the potency of this Sankirtana-Yajna! The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krishna Bhagavan Himself descended on this planet as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to establish this Yuga Dharma which is available to all without limitation of sex, race, nationality, age, varna, asrama etc.
Eivind Morland said; Prabhupāda: "With gun and without gun, you will die. The Fascist will die and the other party also will die. Gun or without gun, he cannot exist. But our fight is to stop death. Tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti mām eti [Bg. 4.9]. Our fight is for this purpose—no more death. This is real fight. Your…, what is your fight? You may save yourself for two years or three years or ten years, but you have to die. You have no such program not to die. But here is a

"I CAME HERE TO TAKE THEIR SUFFERING", SAID PRABHUPADA
It was the beginning of 1977. Prabhupada was in Bombay temple. He was very sick. He had stopped all food intake – he was taking 1/4 a cup of orange juice per day. His body had only bones left – there was no flesh. And yet, he was insisting that he wanted to go to London. The doctors had given up responsibility. But as always, he was adamant
At this time, one Pancaratrika Pandit from Bangalore named Sampat Kumar Bhattacarya came to know about Srila Prabhupada’s situation. So, he took a flight from Bangalore to Bombay – which in those days was a huge thing for a Brahmin priest – and met Prabhupada, and asked for a private meeting. Generally, nobody was allowed a private meeting, but when he said that he specially came by flight from Bangalore to meet Srila Prabhupada, he was allowed a private meeting. So, everybody was asked to go out, and they talked.
The conversation was like this: Sampat Kumar: ‘Swamiji, I am feeling very pained
From Ashtara site; Responding to debate about the nature of Godhead
One thing for sure, our intellectualizations will not effect Godhead in one iota ! We are describing an approximation, what we ourselves currently understand to be God. That is alright, but is there a higher, closer approach possible? Considering that we are souls, and that the body is temporary and limited, then if we can breach these limits, then we can progress on to something true-er.
That is where meditation, prayer, chanting, devotionally-inspired musics, performing austerities, and constant performance of devotional sevice come in. These are not intellectual processes per se, but heart based.
By hearing from the guru, saints, sastra (scripture) , thus giving up our egos built on the bastion of currently limited intelligence, we are given absolute revealed knowledge. Revealed knolwedge is not stagnant or rigid, but becomes rigidified as we bring it again down to within the realm of our speculative and processin
The words "Hare Kṛṣṇa" should be very distinctly pronounced and heard. Sometimes one mechanically produces a hissing sound instead of chanting with the proper pronunciation with the help of the lips and tongue.

If you are not spiritually advanced, this chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra also will not appeal. It will be happening mechanically. But by chanting you will gradually advance, then you will understand that this Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is not different from Kṛṣṇa.

|
Kṛṣṇa and Kṛṣṇa's name are not different. Identical. So when we chant Kṛṣṇa's name it means that we are directly associating with Kṛṣṇa.
|
|
While you chant, you hear also. You don't turn your attention to anything else, mechanically chanting and thinking of something.

We being part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa, our natural tendency is to serve Kṛṣṇa. Natural tendency. It is not artificial. When you forget Kṛṣṇa, that is artificial. So our normal life means to love Kṛṣṇa, to serve Kṛṣṇa. That is ou
