Śrī Rādhā-tattva and Śrī Rādhā's Appearance

Excerpts from the writings of
Śrī Śrīmad Bhaktivedānta Vāmana Gosvāmī Mahārāja

Presented in English for the first time

The upāsaka-sampradāyas (devotional traditions) of India, especially the Vaiṣṇava sampradāyas, are particularly eager to know about śrī rādhā-tattva. It is natural that every sādhaka is eager to know about Śrī Rādhikā, because without serving Her, attaining the service of Śrī Kṛṣṇa is a distant prospect. However, the truth of who She is can only be preserved if She is revealed or described as She is. Otherwise, all we perceive are deceptions that assert truth to be false or falsehood to be truth.

Living entities who are situated on the material platform and bound by māyā are incapable of describing the nature (svarūpa) of Śrī Bhagavān and His spiritual potency, who are supramundane and embody eternal existence, pure awareness and bliss. Only the Vedas, which are Bhagavān’s incarnati

Prabhupada : When the brahmana asked the woman who the man lying on the floor was, she answered that he was her spiritual master and that she was perplexed about who to do in his absence. At such a time the Supersoul immediately appears, provided the devotee is purified in heart by following the direction of the spiritual master. A sincere devotee who follows the instructions of the spiritual master certainly gets direct instructions from him from Supersoul. This is confirmed in Caitanya-caritamrta : guru-krsna- prasade paya bhakti-lata-bija. If the devotee serves his spiritual master sincerely, Krsna automatically becomes pleased. Yasya Prasadad bhagavad - prasadah. By satisfying the spiritual master, one automatically satisfies Krsna. Thus the devotee becomes enriched by both the spiritual master and Krsna. The Supersoul is eternally the friend of the living-entity and always remains with him. The Supersoul has been ready to help the living-entity, even before the creation of this ma

"If somebody engages himself in the devotional service of Vasudeva, then very quickly this detachment develops. And knowledge." Knowledge also. Without knowledge, there cannot be detachment. Without knowledge, one cannot be detached. And what is that knowledge? The knowledge is that "I am not this matter; I am spirit soul." So... But this knowledge is... Although it is very easy thing to say, that "I am not this body, but I am spirit soul," but actually to have perfect knowledge, that is a great job. It is not very easy. For getting that supreme knowledge so many, I mean to say, transcendentalists, they were trying life after life, just to get detached. But the easiest process is that if one is engaged in the devotional service. That is the

So somebody protests like that. But there is no meaning of protesting against the action of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is our view. So we Vaiṣṇavas, we are chanting.
It does not mean that when there is need of fighting with avaiṣṇava (non-vaishnava) we shall lack in strength. We can fight. One gentleman inquired from me that 'Vaiṣṇavism makes one dull. He cannot act.' And, 'No. You have not seen a Vaiṣṇava.' In the two fightings, great fighting, the Rāmāyaṇa and Mahābhārata, the hero was Hanuman and Arjuna, and they fought.
Guest: They fought.
Prabhupada: Yes. And who can be better Vaiṣṇava than them?
Guest: Nobody.
Prabhupada: So Vaiṣṇava does not mean he is dull. No.
Guest: No, that is well proved. If there is need...

Dear Uma,
If one can engage one’s aged cow of a body solely in the service of Śrī Hari, Guru, and Vaiṣṇavas, one can know that its purpose has been fulfilled. If one ends up living for the comforts of home and body, then where is one’s advancement in sādhana-bhajana? Becoming distressed by winters, summers, and so forth often hinders one’s resolve to render service (sevā-niṣṭhā). As important as it is to exert oneself rigorously in service, it is just as necessary to give rest to one’s body, which is valuable for bhajana. These two things are synonymous. Rest is for service; rest does not detract from service. These are two complementary states of being

Sri Krishna to Uddhava, "Although the sky, or space, is the resting place of everything, the sky does not mix with anything, nor is it entangled. Similarly, the sun is not at all attached to the water in which it is reflected within innumerable reservoirs, and the mighty wind blowing everywhere is not affected by the innumerable aromas and atmospheres through which it passes. In the same way, a self-realized soul is completely detached from the material body and the material world around it.

"I joined ISKCON in 1971. I know this movement.. I noticed the erosion of ISKCON about a year after the departure of Srila Prabhupada. The leaders of ISKCON are deemed as criminals by many. Srila Prabhupada once made a statement in the early seventies; many of you are here in the garbs of a devotee, but you are here to destroy - demons from the lower planetary system have taken birth on this planet just to destroy this movement. We were all bewildered by this statement of Srila Prabhupada - We wondered who were these people? Well, now we know." (Jivadhara Dasa ACBSP. New York USA - BTP Issue 42)

The demons who challenge Kṛṣṇa, who want to compete with Kṛṣṇa, who want to share with the property of Kṛṣṇa, they are all enemies of Kṛṣṇa, and they should be killed.....So rea

As recommended by Lord Caitanya, one has to cleanse the dust from the mirror of the mind, and then advancement on the path of liberation begins. Here also the same process is recommended. Malam means: “contamination.” We should learn to despise all the causes of devastation, beginning from irreligion and cheating, and then we shall be able to make advancement in a life of piety. The possibility of our attaining Kṛṣṇa consciousness will be easier, and we shall not be subjected to repeated devastation."

The creation takes place on the basis of goodness, but devastation takes place because of irreligion. That is the way of material creation and devastation. Here it is stated that the cause of devastation is Adharma, or Irreligion. The descendants of Irreligion and Falsity, born one after another, are Bluffing, Cheati

Drug addicts seek love, security, amusement, and thus relief from material pain. A positive alternative is available; ie Krsna consciousness. Eternal love and dignified service is available, so the self identity can be healed. Intoxicators are seeking their constitutional position, though they do not usually know what is driving them. Intoxication is good, look at the intoxicated activities of those in Krsna and Mahaprabhu's pastimes; but that intoxication is natural, not artificial. Taking earthly intoxicants can bind one to temporary things, as well as create poverty ,crime, illness, and social troubles. Try to avoid them, take to chanting hare krsna and be vegetarian. Certainly never drink alcohol. So many lives are ruined due to that demonic assault. You will find a much better life if you can find spiritual happiness, and a good destination.

Asuras have infiltrated Srila Prabhupada's society and are working to change his teachings from within.

Here is just one example of the changes being made to his books (Chaitanya Charitamrita, Madhya Lila 19.157, purport):

Original paragraph:

"If one thinks that there are many pseudo devotees or nondevotees in the Krsna Consciousness Society, one can keep direct company with the spiritual master, and if there is any doubt, one should consult the spiritual master."

New corrupted version:

"Even if one thinks that there are many pseudo devotees or nondevotees in the Krsna Consciousness Society, still one should stick to the Society; if one thinks the Society's members are not pure devotees, one can keep direct company with the spiritual master, and if there is any doubt, one should consult the spiritual master."

Many arguments are made in this respect, that as long as we don't cut the animal we do not incur sin.

In the Mahabharata, there is a verse which states that one who sells the animal, one who buys the animal, one cuts the animal, one who cooks the animal, one who serves the animal and one who eats the animal, all are bound equally by the chain of Karma.

But leaving the spiritual aspect of it, anatomically, the human body is not structured to eat animal flesh. Studies have shown the length of the intestine of a tiger is 4 times the length of it's torso so when it eats flesh the toxins in the flesh are not kept for long in the intestine and are expelled at the earliest. Also the concentration of acid secreted in the stomach is so strong that it burns the bacteria in the flesh. While in the cow, the length of the intestine is 12 times it's torso and so the food takes longer time to be expelled from the body. We have seen that the incidence of the Mad Cow disease (bovine spongi

Godhead is Form. He is not formless. The formless is a view of the Effulgence radiated by the form. The Effulgence acts as a blinding zone of pure blissful light encircling the Form. This radiated Divine Effulgence has the quality of obscuring the vision of the spiritual Form of the individual soul bound on the quest of the Absolute. Arriving in this zone of light, the seeker is apt to receive the overpowering impression that he has no individual Form of his own and that he is one with the vast undifferentiated Effulgence. He is so fully satisfied in making this discovery that he has no mind to question the legitimacy of his overwhelming satisfaction.

True, the light emitted by the Divine drives away all worldly ignorance and misery and draws the purified soul into itself. It is as if a great light draws to itself one of its own rays gone astray. What happens to the individual ray after it is merged in the great light, is left undescribed. No vocabulary, it is urged, can carr

Prabhupada: Yes. Acarya is explained, bhakti-samsanah: “One who’s preaching the cult of devotional service, he’s acarya.” Then why should you find any discrepancy?
Jayadvaita: Because we see … For instance, sometimes the acarya may seem to forget something or not to know something, so from our point of view, if someone has forgotten, that is an imperfection.
Prabhupada: Then you do not understand. Acarya is not God, omniscient. He is servant of God. His business is to preach bhakti cult. That is acarya.
Jayadvaita: And that is the perfection.
Prabhupada: That is the perfection. Hare Krsna.
Jayadvaita: So we have a misunderstanding about what perfection is?
Prabhupada: Yes. Perfection is here, how he is preaching bhakti cult. That’s all.
Satsvarupa: Prabhupada, in one purport in the Bhagavad-gita, you write that a disciple of a bona fide spiritual master is supposed to know everything.

“Austerity does not simply mean abstention from worldly pleasure. One who is pure-hearted and kind to all living entities is actually a great sage, even though he may be situated in household life. One who performs austerities with an impure heart receives only bodily pains as a result, for his endeavors can never free him from sinful reactions. It is purity of heart and godliness that cause austerities to become effective. The acts, in and of themselves, such as taking sannyasa, fasting, etc. cannot give any good result.”

The Great Story of Bali

The Great Bali Maharajah Offers His Head For Vamanadeva Brahmacary

Maharaja Pariksit inquired Suka: The Supreme Godhead, Sri Narayana, is the proprietor of everything. Why did He beg three paces of land from Bali Maharaja like a poor man, and when He got the gift for which He had begged, why did He nonetheless arrest Bali Maharaja? I am very much anxious to know the mystery of these contradictions.

Sri Suka Said: Bali Maharaja, The leader of the Demons, gathered his soldiers outside the abode of Indra and attacked it from all directions. He sounded the conchshell given to him by his Guru, Sukracarya, thus creating a fearful situation for the women protected by Indra. Seeing Bali Maharaja's indefatigable endeavor and understanding his motive, King Indra, along with the other gods, approached his master, Brhaspati, and spoke as follows. My lord, our old enemy Bali Maharaja now has new enthusiasm, and he has obtained such astonishing power that we think that per
